“You’re welcome.”
Mu Cheng smiled, picked up her bowl, and began eating. Today she had cooked braised beef with potatoes and a plate of stir-fried cabbage. She had stored quite a lot of frozen meat in her space. Although the space could preserve things, without a refrigerator food would still spoil if kept too long. That was why she was being so generous today, taking out a large chunk of beef to share with Tang Nuo.
Tang Nuo picked up a piece of potato and said, “I heard from your brother that you’ve been learning to cook.”
Mu Cheng lowered her head and replied while eating, “Yeah. I had nothing to do, so I went to learn for a while.”
Tang Nuo swallowed the potato and nodded in satisfaction.
“It tastes even better than what professional chefs make.”
“Hehe, thank you for the compliment, Second Brother Tang.” Mu Cheng smiled and continued eating.
Having someone eat with her actually felt pretty nice.
After they finished the meal, Tang Nuo took the initiative to gather the bowls and chopsticks and washed them in a basin.
When everything was cleaned up, Mu Cheng stored the utensils back into her space and also put the bathtub away.
Seeing the bathtub disappear into thin air the moment she touched it, Tang Nuo asked, “How did you do that?”
Mu Cheng knew Tang Nuo would eventually ask how she could take things out and put them away like that. Since she had already done it in front of him, she had long prepared an explanation.
“I’m a space ability user.”
Tang Nuo looked at her with confusion.
“Space… ability user? What does that mean?”
“Do you remember what happened last night?” Mu Cheng asked. “The first time you swung your fist, you smashed a hole into the ground. The second time, a bolt of lightning shot out of your fist and cut a crack into the wall. And the third time, ice needles flew out and shattered the iron bars.”
As Mu Cheng spoke, Tang Nuo began recalling everything that had happened the previous night. None of that was something an ordinary person could do.
He raised his hand and stared at it. The palm was rough with calluses. How could these hands possess such terrifying strength—and even release lightning and ice?
He rolled up his sleeve again. The wrist that had been rubbed raw by the handcuffs was now completely healed. The bite wound on his arm that had refused to heal before had also disappeared entirely, leaving no trace at all.
Yet he knew the zombie bite hadn’t been a dream. The days he had spent on the edge between sanity and collapse hadn’t been a dream either.
Mu Cheng continued, “Those were strength-type, lightning-type, and ice-type abilities.”
“Why did this happen?” Tang Nuo looked at her seriously.
“Xiao Cheng, can you tell me everything you know?”
The two of them found a place to sit down.
Tang Nuo spoke again, “The monsters that bit you were zombies. They turned into man-eating creatures because of a virus infection. Right now, zombies are everywhere—in cities and towns.”
After saying that, Mu Cheng paused and added, “Actually, I don’t know that much either. Everything I know is just based on novels and what I’ve encountered so far. As for my space, it’s simply a small independent dimension where I can store things.”
Tang Nuo nodded. After a moment of silence, he said, “You should be careful. It’s best not to let other people know you’re a space ability user. Otherwise, they might develop bad intentions toward you.”
Mu Cheng tilted her head and looked at him with a smile.
“Second Brother Tang, aren’t you interested in my space at all? I’ve collected a lot of supplies along the way—enough for me to eat for a very long time.”
She continued teasingly.
“I can even tell you this: if you want the things inside my space, all you have to do is kill me. Once I die, everything in my space will automatically drop out—just like equipment dropping from monsters in a game.”
Mu Cheng wasn’t lying. When a space ability user died, their stored items really would spill out like dropped loot.
Of course, she herself wasn’t truly a space ability user. Her space followed her soul. Even if she died, nothing inside it would ever fall out.
