The number of zombies in the city was increasing rapidly. On the first day, the police were still out on the streets arresting and killing zombies everywhere. By the second day, not a single officer could be seen outside, and citizens had all hidden inside their homes, too afraid to go out.

This made things convenient for Mu Cheng. She no longer had to worry about encountering people on the road or being stopped and questioned by the police.

That afternoon, after coming out of a shopping mall, Mu Cheng looked across at the Jiang City Public Security Bureau. A thought suddenly came to her—if she had weapons, surviving the apocalypse would be much easier.Full novel: Reborn in the Apocalypse: Picking Up a Corpse King as a Bodyguard — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

So she decided to make a trip to the Public Security Bureau.

The bureau was likely already overrun by zombies. Several of them were wandering in the courtyard. If there were still people inside, they would never allow zombies to roam outside like this. After all, the police had guns—even if they were weak, they wouldn’t be so terrified as to hide indoors because of just a few zombies.

As it turned out, Mu Cheng’s guess was correct. There really were no people inside. What she hadn’t expected, however, was that there were quite a lot of zombies.

Even though Mu Cheng had practiced martial arts for half a year and knew how to kill zombies with a single strike, there were simply too many of them. Her arms were already beginning to lose strength.

Still, since she had already entered, she had no intention of giving up the weapons inside.

Following the signs, she fought her way to the building at the back. There were prisons and various training rooms there. Only a few scattered zombies could be seen, but a large number were still relentlessly chasing her from behind.

After entering the building, she closed the door behind her, sat down to eat something and rest for a while, then stood up again and headed toward the armory.

All the way to the end of the first floor, she did not encounter any more zombies. It seemed that after the apocalypse began, most of the people in this building had already escaped.

Clatter.

Mu Cheng looked at the dazzling array of weapons in front of her, her eyes lighting up. Without hesitation, she quickly used her right hand to store every single weapon into her spatial space.

By the time she finished, it was already completely dark outside.

With a thought, she entered her space, took off her blood-soaked clothes and threw them outside, then went to the hot spring for a bath before heading to the kitchen to cook.

In her previous life, Mu Cheng had been a pampered young lady who had never set foot in a kitchen. After being reborn, she not only spent half a year training in martial arts, but also learned cooking.

She had planted all kinds of grains, vegetables, fruits, herbs, and even raised livestock in her space. If she couldn’t cook or refused to reveal her space, then no matter how many supplies she collected, she would only be able to look at them while starving.

After professional training, the dishes she made were delicious in color, aroma, and taste—no different from a top chef’s cooking. Because of this, she ate with great satisfaction. However, thinking about how she would be eating like this alone every day in the future still left her feeling a little lonely.

Humans are social creatures—who wouldn’t want someone by their side?

After dinner, Mu Cheng returned to the wooden house bedroom and lay down, preparing to rest for the night and leave the next day.

“Roar! Ah! Roar! Ah!”

Just as she closed her eyes, a series of muffled, abnormal sounds suddenly came from outside her space.

The sounds were a mix of zombie roars and human screams.

The two types of sounds intertwined in a strange way—anyone who heard it would think there was both a zombie and a living person nearby.

But Mu Cheng was very familiar with it. She knew this was not the sound of one zombie and one human, but rather the sound of someone on the verge of turning into a zombie.

After the apocalypse, some people with strong willpower would not immediately turn into zombies after infection. Instead, they would fluctuate back and forth between human and zombie states.
