The Queen Leech dropped exactly as expected, but Han Yue knew something like this would never die in one round.
It would mutate again later.
But!
That just meant this was the perfect moment to finish it off properly.
He called Rebecca over, grabbed the grenade launcher, then piled on every grenade, incendiary round, and absurd amount of ammunition he had on hand—and dumped all of it onto the thing.
The poor Queen Leech did not even get the chance to stand back up.
Its entire body was blasted to dust.
After emptying the last of the grenades, Han Yue tossed the launcher to the floor.
“Let’s see how you mutate now.”
Then he turned to Rebecca and said, “Remember this: when you put down something like that, always make sure to finish it off.
Otherwise, if it gets back up again, it’ll only become even more troublesome.”
If the game doesn’t let you follow up, fine.
But here?
I’ll blow you into ash.
Rebecca’s mouth twitched slightly.
Did he have some kind of blood feud with this thing?
He had blasted the corpse so thoroughly that not even slag seemed to be left.
There probably would not even be ashes left to scatter.
Anyone who did not know better might have thought Marcus had personally killed him ten years ago.
Seeing Rebecca staring off blankly, Han Yue grabbed her arm.
“Don’t just stand there spacing out.
Let’s move.
This whole damn night has worn me out.”
As he spoke, he led Rebecca onto the freight elevator.
According to the normal plot, this was the part where Marcus, who had just been knocked down, would evolve again and come after them.
Unfortunately for him, after being blown into pieces, he would never get that chance.
Halfway up the freight elevator, a shrill alarm suddenly rang out in their ears.
Han Yue frowned and said in a low voice, “Someone must’ve activated the self-destruct program for the facility.
We need to get out of here now.”
By the time the two of them finally left the Executive Training School, the sun had already risen.
And when they stepped onto the slope ahead, the dawn of a new day unfolded before them in perfect silence.
……
Facing the morning sun, Han Yue stretched his exhausted body, then lazily lay down on the hillside.
He patted the ground beside him, signaling for Rebecca to lie down too.
Rebecca rolled her eyes at him.
“Trying to take advantage of me?
Keep dreaming.”
Han Yue immediately put on a deeply wounded expression.
“We only just got out, and you’ve already forgotten how I risked my life to save you.
Too heartbreaking.
My heart hurts.”
Seeing his exaggerated performance, Rebecca could not help laughing.
Still, she walked over and lay down beside him.
“Happy now?”
From where the two of them were lying, they could clearly see a huge mansion standing below the slope.
Rebecca pointed toward it.
“That should be the mansion Enrico mentioned.
You work there, right?”
Han Yue gave a bitter smile and nodded.
“Yeah.
But right now, it’s full of zombies too.”
“What are you planning to do after this?”
At Rebecca’s question, the smile on Han Yue’s face froze.
Only then did it truly hit him—once this instance ended, he would have to leave.
If the woman in his arms were someone else—Jill, Claire, even Ada—Han Yue would not feel that same reluctant ache.
Because sooner or later, he would run into them again in later instances.
But it had to be Rebecca.
The heroine of Resident Evil 0.
And outside of the Mansion Incident itself, her presence in the later story was faint at best.
By the time she appeared prominently again, it would be in the CG film Resident Evil: Vendetta, more than ten years later, when she had already become a university professor. Follow the newest chapters on novelping.com.
If they met again by then, everything would probably be completely different.
At that moment, Han Yue suddenly wanted to ask why it was only after clearing the beginner instances that people could bring characters out of an instance.
“Because each person’s beginner instances exist independently.
In series instances, whatever the master does in an earlier entry will affect the later entries.
Therefore, major plot characters from a series instance cannot be taken out before the series’ main storyline has been completed.”
Hearing the answer the Question Sprite gave directly in his mind, Han Yue slowly clenched his fists.
Rebecca seemed to notice that something was wrong and asked with concern, “What’s wrong?
Are you okay?”
Han Yue forced out a bitter smile.
“I’m fine.”
“You look like you’ve got something on your mind.”
Han Yue hesitated for a moment before speaking slowly.
“It’s…
not convenient for me to explain right now.
Where are you going in a little while?”
In the end, after thinking it over, he still did not tell Rebecca the truth.
He genuinely did not know how to say it out loud.
Seeing that Han Yue did not want to continue, Rebecca chose not to press him.
Instead, she looked toward the mansion below the slope.
“Captain Enrico went there.
I’m going to meet up with him in a bit.”
“Don’t go.”
“Hm?” Rebecca turned to look at him, puzzled.
Han Yue explained, “Very soon, Alpha Team will realize you’ve gone out of contact.
They’ll come to investigate today.
As for the mansion, I need to go back there for a while.
There are still a lot of zombies inside, so don’t go.
I’m worried something might happen to you.”
It’s not really mandatory—I’ll eventually upload all the chapters here—but it helps a lot in supporting me and allows me to dedicate more time to it.
