“Damn it, I’ve got a bad feeling about this place.
First Chris, then Wesker—everything here is way too bizarre.”
Jill quickly swept the area, but found nothing.
Both she and Barry looked at Han Yue with open suspicion.
This man had appeared out of nowhere, and on top of that, he was an employee here.
If something had happened in this place, then there was no way he could be completely unrelated to it.
Han Yue understood that being suspected was only natural.
He merely shrugged and said nothing.
Barry frowned and said in a deep voice, “There’s not much we can do.
Let’s split up and look for him.”
After saying that, he turned to look at Han Yue.
Han Yue spread his hands helplessly.
“Hey, don’t look at me like that.
I don’t know what happened here either.
After the company transferred me over, I found this place already like this.
Then I lost all contact with the outside world, and after that I ran into Rebecca.”
Barry replied, “I want to believe you, but what’s happening right now is too strange.
You’re coming with me while I investigate.”
“Uh…”
“Well…
can I choose Jill instead?”
Han Yue blurted out his preferred answer without even thinking.
Damn it, it wasn’t like he had some weird fetish.
Who the hell would willingly team up with an old man like you?
Even though Barry was only thirty-eight and still very much in his prime, compared with Wesker—who was the same age—it somehow felt like those two belonged to completely different generations.
Beside them, when Jill heard this suspicious stranger say he wanted to go with her, her brows drew together slightly.
But she still spoke up.
“Fine.
Then come with me.”
Given her training and skill set, she was confident that no matter what this man was after, she could handle it.
Barry had wanted to object, but seeing that Jill had already agreed, he held it back.
Be careful.”
After saying that, he shot them a meaningful look.
Both Jill and Han Yue naturally noticed it.
Jill assumed Barry was simply still wary of Han Yue.
But inwardly, Han Yue smiled with understanding.
At this point, Barry’s family had already been taken hostage by Wesker, forcing him to side with him inside the mansion.
“Alright then, we’ll check the other side.”
“Oh, right—there’s also a lockpick tool here.
You should be able to use it.”
“Thanks.
I should.”
“And if anything happens, come back to the main hall and regroup.
Got it?”
“Got it.”
With that, the three split up.
Han Yue followed Jill through a door on the opposite side, crossed one room, and entered another corridor.
The dim lighting made the surroundings feel especially gloomy and sinister.
On the sofa near the corner lay a corpse.
That corpse belonged to Kenneth, the one who had just been bitten to death by Mr.
One-Smile.
In his hand was a videotape.
Looking at something that radiated such strong old-school vibes, Han Yue could not help laughing.
Jill frowned and shot him a look.
“What are you laughing at?”
Uh…
Only then did Han Yue suddenly remember that this was Jill’s teammate.
Laughing in front of her dead comrade seemed…
less than ideal.
“I just suddenly thought of something happy.
A friend of mine’s wife is giving birth today.”
Who knew whether the phrase “a friend of mine” existed in this world as a standard excuse too, but Jill gave him a half-smile.
“That ‘friend’ of yours…
wouldn’t happen to be you, would it?
“Hey, don’t say stuff like that.
If my friend hears you, he’ll come after me with a knife.”
“Heh…”
Jill let out a cold little laugh and stopped paying attention to him.
In a place this bizarre, with a man suddenly appearing out of nowhere, anyone with a functioning brain would know he definitely had issues.
As for his claim that he was Rebecca’s friend, Jill not only did not believe him, she even suspected Rebecca might already have been harmed by him.
It was just that, for now, there was no evidence.
And Jill believed she could handle any sudden situation that might arise, so she did not object to letting him tag along.
Honestly, the atmosphere here was completely different from when he had first met Rebecca.
But Han Yue did not care too much.
Back in Resident Evil 3, Jill had also been full of suspicion toward Carlos at the start.
Didn’t she trust him later anyway?
Take it slow.
No need to rush.
The two searched the corridor as they moved along.
Although Han Yue had already been inside the mansion before, for the sake of safety, he had not wandered too far around it at the time.
Very soon, the two of them did manage to gather some ammunition and a few other supplies.
Following the nearby staircase, they made their way to the second floor.
A zombie walked straight toward them.
After what had happened earlier with Mr.
One-Smile, Jill was already mentally prepared.
She calmly raised her handgun and fired.
A clean headshot.
Along both sides of the corridor ahead stood two rows of ancient polearms—Han Yue could not even tell whether they were spears or some other kind of long cold weapon.
There was also a door beside them.
Han Yue tried the knob, but it would not budge.
It was locked.
“Move.”
Jill spoke coldly, then stepped forward and picked the lock open herself.
The whole process took less than three seconds.
With skill like that—and in an era when security tech still was not that advanced, on top of Jill’s already absurd physical capabilities—Han Yue genuinely felt that if she wanted to, Jill could absolutely become some legendary master thief.
