Meanwhile, on the other side, after Han Yue came out of the art room, he realized Jill was nowhere to be seen.
Following the nearby door that had already been opened, he went after her.
Before long, he could hear Jill frantically pounding on a door and shouting for help over and over from somewhere ahead.
The moment he heard it, Han Yue immediately realized this was probably that famously memed scene from Resident Evil 1.
In the original plot, Barry was supposed to show up here and save Jill.
But Barry had gone off to investigate another direction just now, so there was obviously no way he could appear in time.
Not daring to waste even a second, Han Yue hurried over.
Still, hearing Jill call out other people’s names one after another made him feel a little annoyed.
“Why don’t you at least try yelling my name once?”
Han Yue grumbled through the door.
“John!?
Hurry, get me out!
The door’s locked!”
Jill’s anxious voice came from inside, and there was even an unmistakable note of pleading in it.
“Tsk, tsk, tsk.
It’s only because it’s you.
If it were someone else, I wouldn’t even bother.”
Clicking his tongue, Han Yue stopped wasting time.
He pulled the shotgun from his inventory and blasted the lock apart with a single shot.
The door flew open.
At that moment, Jill was already flattened against the floor, only a heartbeat away from being crushed into meat paste.
Han Yue didn’t hesitate—he grabbed her hand and yanked her out.
“You know, one second later and you would’ve turned into a Jill sandwich.” Looking at the still-shaken Jill beside him, Han Yue delivered that iconic line.
Having just escaped death, Jill was breathing heavily.
She forced out a bitter smile.
“Maybe…
haah…
haah…
maybe so.
That was terrifying.”
“John, thank you for saving me.
I owe you one.”
Han Yue smiled.
“Then you’re probably going to owe me way more than that.
One time definitely won’t be enough.”
“What do you mean?
How many more times are you planning to save me?
Or are you saying these traps were all set by you?”
What Han Yue had actually meant was that in Resident Evil 3, he’d probably end up saving Jill several more times. This story is hosted at g.com.
But Jill had obviously misunderstood.
Hearing the suspicion in her voice, Han Yue said helplessly, “Come on.
If I set the trap, why would I come save you?
And besides, weren’t you the one who ran in there yourself?”
“I just saved your life, and this is how you repay me?
Isn’t that a little hurtful?”
After saying that, Han Yue once again started putting on his cheap, dramatic acting routine.
Jill directly ignored the performance.
“Sorry.
I shouldn’t have suspected you.
But thank you.”
“Let’s go.
We need to find Chris first, at least.”
After saying that, Jill motioned for Han Yue to follow.
Han Yue followed after her.
“Chris?
Yeah, I know him.
He’s the door-closing guy.”
“A what?” Jill looked completely baffled.
Because of what had just happened, the atmosphere between the two of them had clearly relaxed quite a bit, and Han Yue began joking around more openly.
He immediately told a joke about a strongly built man who was about to beat someone up, only for the poor victim to hurriedly shout for Chris to close the door, narrowly escaping disaster.
After finishing the joke, Jill showed basically no reaction at all.
Han Yue, meanwhile, laughed so hard by himself that it nearly looked embarrassing.
Jill just stared at him with complete confusion.
What was that even supposed to mean?
Was that joke actually meant to be funny?
Her big, doll-like eyes looked straight at Han Yue, full of question marks.
Han Yue waved a hand.
“It’s a joke from my hometown.
Makes sense that you wouldn’t get it.”
Jill rolled her eyes speechlessly.
As the two talked and moved forward, a man suddenly staggered toward them head-on.
His clothes were soaked through with blood, and it was obvious at a glance that he had been badly injured.
The moment Jill saw his face, she cried out, “Richard?”
You’re hurt!”
The man called Richard forced out a miserable expression.
“This place is like a slaughterhouse…
monsters are everywhere…”
“Who did this to you?” Jill asked.
“It was a giant snake…
has to be poisonous…”
Richard was clearly struggling to breathe, and even speaking came out in broken fragments.
“Poisonous!?
Richard, hang in there!
I’ll go get the serum!”
“I found some…
but I didn’t bring it with me…”
“I’ll get it for you.
You’ll be alright.”
“Thanks…”
Just as Jill was about to get up and look for the serum, she had only barely turned her head when she saw Han Yue already holding out an injector toward her.
“This is…?” Jill asked, confused.
Han Yue stuffed it into her hand and smiled.
“Antivenom serum.
I found it in a room earlier and grabbed it on the way.”
“Thank you,” Jill said seriously.
Han Yue smiled back.
Lying on the floor, Richard hurriedly thanked them too the moment he saw the serum.
“I’m injecting you now.
Hold on.”
Jill rolled up his sleeve and jabbed the injector straight in.
“Alright.
Rest here for a while.”
“Jill, here—take my radio.”
“Thanks.”
After that, the two of them set off again.
Inside the maze-like mansion, they continued exploring deeper and deeper.
And after everything that had just happened, Jill’s attitude was no longer as cold as before.
If Han Yue had some kind of affection meter or intimacy bar over her head, then by now he probably would have seen it move from Hostile to Friend—or at least Comrade.
At the very least, Jill now had a certain degree of trust in him.
It’s not really mandatory—I’ll eventually upload all the chapters here—but it helps a lot in supporting me and allows me to dedicate more time to it.
