…

This was the instance selection interface.

There were five difficulty levels in total.

The lowest was Beginner, and the highest was Hell.

Under each difficulty tier sat a long list of instances, including quite a few serialized ones as well.

The moment the other reincarnators saw one familiar title after another—so familiar it was practically burned into their souls—the public chat instantly exploded with excitement.

“Hahahahaha!

I’m definitely choosing the highest-difficulty instance.

I’ve watched Resident Evil so many times I’ve lost count.

If I can’t pull an S-rank evaluation out of this, I’ll wash my hair upside down.”

“Bro, I know Resident Evil way too well.

I remember every single detail clear as day.”

“Seriously, why is anybody even hesitating?

Just pick the highest difficulty and go.”

“I thought I was the only one who knew the plot.

Didn’t expect literally everyone knew it too.

Then what’s there left to think about?

Straight into Resident Evil.”

“Same.

I honestly thought I was the chosen one, but it turns out everybody and their dog knows the storyline.

Fine by me.

At least that means we’re all starting from the same baseline.”

Watching the reactions flooding the public chat, Han Yue slowly shook his head, feeling a trace of disappointment.

Before this, he had also assumed he was special.

Just like the protagonists in those infinite-flow novels, he had thought he would be the only one who knew the plotlines of these instances.

Who could have guessed that almost everyone knew them?

At that point, there was really nothing left to deliberate over.

Nearly everyone had chosen the highest-difficulty Resident Evil series instance.

If he deliberately picked something easier instead, that would be no different from voluntarily putting himself one full tier behind everyone else right from the starting line.

So Han Yue stopped hesitating and selected the Resident Evil Series instance.

Since he had already transmigrated into this kind of world, there was no point in acting timid or overly cautious.

He had seen the movie several times himself and remembered the main plot quite well.

He had even played the games.

He refused to believe he would end up worse than the others.

“Hello, John.

The instance you have selected is the Resident Evil Series.

Do you confirm?”

“Yes.”

The instant the word left his mouth, the system prompt rang out by his ear.

“Transmission countdown begins: 10, 9, 8…

3, 2, 1!”

The countdown ended.

Splash!

The Reincarnation Plaza in front of him abruptly scattered like water struck by a stone.

Ripples spread through the air, and in the blink of an eye, the entire world around him changed.

A violent wave of dizziness slammed into Han Yue’s head, and the scene before his eyes gradually blurred.

Several seconds later, the spinning finally began to subside, and his vision slowly returned.

When he opened his eyes again, he discovered that he was lying face-down on a desk.

It looked like an office desk.

He was also wearing a white coat—something close to a doctor’s lab coat.

“Selection successful.

Beginning identity construction…”

“Name: John.”

“Identity: Chief Researcher of the Arklay Laboratory.”

“Age: 24.”

“Main Quest: Survive for 36 hours.

You must not move beyond a five-kilometer radius outside the mansion grounds.”

“Side Quest 1: Investigate the secrets of the mansion and the cause of the virus leak.”

“Side Quest 2: Defeat Tyrant No.

T-002.”

“Quest Failure: During beginner instances, there is no penalty for quest failure.”

“Hint: The number of zombies you kill will affect your final evaluation.

There are also hidden quests within this instance; completing them will grant additional rewards.”

…

One prompt after another sounded inside Han Yue’s mind.

Han Yue was a little stunned.

Judging by the details in those prompts, this did not seem to be the plot of the Resident Evil movie at all.

It felt much closer to the game’s storyline.

After all, the word “mansion” had already appeared.

What really left him speechless, though, was that line about there being “no penalty for mission failure.”

The main quest was to survive for thirty-six hours.

If the mission failed, wouldn’t that basically mean he was already dead?

If you were dead, what difference did it make whether there was a penalty or not?

Wasn’t that just the same thing with extra steps?

After silently venting that complaint in his head, Han Yue began looking around at his surroundings.

His gaze swept across the desk in front of him.

Beside it sat a computer monitor, and reflected on the darkened screen was his own face.

His appearance had not changed.

But right next to the monitor was a photo frame.

Inside the photograph, he was standing closely together with a beautiful woman who had short black hair.

The two of them were embracing each other in an intimate pose, both wearing bright, happy smiles.

Han Yue recognized her at a single glance.

Wasn’t that Ada Wong?

Then didn’t that mean this identity of “John” was basically that disposable boyfriend of Ada’s from Resident Evil 1?

In the plot, he had only ever left behind a letter.

He never even appeared on-screen in person.

And in the original version of Resident Evil 2, the first time Ada met Leon, she had also used the excuse that she was looking for her boyfriend.

(As for this part, the original author hasn’t personally played the older version—it’s just too old—but while digging through reference materials, they found claims that in Resident Evil 2, Ada’s inventory includes a photo like this.

At the same time, in Resident Evil 4, Luis wanted to expose Saddler’s conspiracy, so he sent a distress email to his college classmate John.

By then, John had already been dead for six years.

In the end, the one who actually received that message was Ada.

Ada then passed the information on to Wesker, which led into the later plot developments.

I’m not completely sure every single detail is exactly correct, but this is the setting I’m using here.)

It’s not really mandatory—I’ll eventually upload all the chapters here—but it helps a lot in supporting me and allows me to dedicate more time to it.
