Han Yue patted Jill on the shoulder.

A smile tugged at the corner of his mouth, and then he slowly stepped forward and pushed the door open.

The giant snake that had bitten Richard earlier shot out again.

Its tongue flicked.

Its blood-slick jaws opened wide.

Then it lunged straight at the three of them.

They split apart at once, barely dodging the attack.

In the next instant, bullets started pouring into the snake’s body as if ammo were free.

Its hide was clearly nowhere near as hard and durable as the centipede’s had been.

With the three of them attacking together, the giant snake soon crashed to the floor, limp and powerless.

On the wall in the corner, Jill spotted a mask.

But just as she was about to pick it up, the situation changed.

The giant snake that had already collapsed suddenly sprang back up and charged straight at Han Yue and Richard.

Faced with the sudden reversal, Han Yue—who had been mentally prepared—could absolutely have reacted in time and fired a grenade straight into the snake’s open mouth.

But…

Han Yue did not hesitate for even a second.

He dodged aside immediately.

Richard, standing beside him, was not nearly as fortunate.

Before he could react, the man was swallowed whole by the giant snake, letting out a shrill scream.

“Richard!!!”

Jill shouted and fired wildly at the giant snake.

But obviously, no amount of gunfire could change Richard’s fate now.

“Damn it!

You monster—go to hell!!!”

Ignoring the danger entirely, Jill rushed right up in front of it with the shotgun and blasted away at the snake’s head.

That very clearly enraged the creature.

After swallowing Richard completely, it instantly fixed on her as its next target.

Its tongue flicked once more, and then it lunged.

“Jill, look out!”

At that moment, Jill was clearly being overwhelmed by anger.

Han Yue, at her side, hurriedly threw his arms around her and tackled her out of the way.

Only then did the two of them barely avoid the strike.

Looking at Jill in his arms, Han Yue gave a short laugh.

“You owe me another one.”

After saying that, the third wheel was gone too.

Han Yue pulled the grenade launcher from his inventory bag and fired a grenade straight into the giant snake’s mouth.

Boom!

The violent blast tore away half of its jaw.

The giant snake let out a howl of pain.

Han Yue had no idea what exactly it was “saying,” of course.

Maybe it was screaming in agony, maybe it was cursing him out.

Either way, he did not care in the slightest what mood it was in.

He aimed at the mangled wound and fired another grenade.

This time, the giant snake never got back up.

“Richard…”

Jill stared at the snake’s corpse, biting her lower lip hard.

Faced with the death of a teammate, she was obviously in terrible pain.

Han Yue walked over in silence, gently pulled her into his arms, and comforted her in a low voice.

“Don’t be too sad.

Everyone has their own fate.”

For a cannon-fodder side character like this, being born to die was practically part of the job.

The fact that he had a name and actual screen time already counted as pretty decent treatment.

Of course, Han Yue only said that second part in his head.

Jill stood there quietly for a while, then shook her head and slipped out of his embrace.

After a long moment, she finally recovered a little from the grief and said softly, “Let’s go.”

After leaving the room, Han Yue and Jill continued exploring deeper into the mansion.

Along the way, they used herbicide to deal with the infected plant and obtained another mask from a locked room.

Right after that, in a nearby chamber, they found an Administrator’s Diary.

It recorded how the diary’s owner had gradually become infected, how he slowly began losing his mind, how he started attacking his own teammates, and how he eventually deteriorated into a zombie. Follow the newest chapters on NovelPing.

The moment they finished reading the diary, a zombie suddenly burst out of the cabinet behind them.

The cabinet had really moved.

For real.

At the same time, the two corpses lying on the floor also rose up in grotesque, unnatural postures, opening blood-filled mouths as they slowly stood.

Han Yue immediately grabbed Jill and pulled her out of the room.

Behind them, only the pounding of zombies against the door echoed on and on.

After that, the two of them disabled two more mechanisms and finally gathered all four masks.

One was found in a room filled with fully armed mannequin soldiers.

The other was hidden in a corridor where, using Lisa’s portrait as the key, they had to adjust the colors of the surrounding paintings correctly.

Honestly, Lisa’s portrait was truly beautiful.

But knowing what had happened to that woman in the end, Han Yue could only sigh inwardly in regret.

….

To be honest, Han Yue really got a headache from this kind of puzzle-solving nonsense.

Good thing he still remembered parts of the plot, and good thing Jill was here to help too—otherwise, who knew how long it would have taken them to figure everything out?

Even though, in theory, Han Yue could have simply hidden in some room, waited for the plot to move on, and then left the mansion when the time came, doing that would unquestionably lower his final evaluation.

And besides, Han Yue wanted to open the coffin precisely because he was trying to farm a mini-boss and see whether he could squeeze out an extra reward at the end.

The two of them returned to the graveyard and entered the eerie stone chamber from before.

After placing the masks onto the grotesque stone faces, the chains sealing the coffin suddenly began to snap.

Each time a mask was placed, one chain broke.

After two chains snapped, the coffin tilted sharply downward, and horrifying blood even began seeping out from inside.

Jill placed the remaining two masks.

Boom!

As the coffin slammed heavily to the ground, the creature sealed within it—what Han Yue had long suspected to be George Trevor, or something born from that old nightmare—slowly rose from inside.

Its whole body was not rotted in the ordinary, uneven way of normal zombies.

Instead, it was covered in a bizarre, dark red coloration.

Its limbs were still fitted with restraints, and both of its hands ended in sharp claws.

The moment it saw the two living humans standing before it, the creature let out a beast-like roar and charged at them ferociously.

What greeted it was a shotgun blast.

It’s not really mandatory—I’ll eventually upload all the chapters here—but it helps a lot in supporting me and allows me to dedicate more time to it.
