After Han Yue pulled her out of the way, Jill stared at the horrifying monster and felt a wave of lingering fear wash over her.
Especially the layers of face-skin pasted onto its head—Jill didn’t even dare imagine what it would look like if her own face ended up there.
“Th-Thank you…”
“Alright, save the thanks for later.
Let’s move.
Now.
Guns won’t do much against this monster.”
Watching the creature lumber closer and closer, letting out terrifying howls from time to time, Han Yue fired a few shotgun blasts at Lisa to force her back for the moment, then pulled Jill up from the ground and ran.
The two of them fled along the fenced path.
Only after confirming that the monster had not caught up with them did Jill finally collapse to the ground, panting hard, her chest rising and falling rapidly.
What a pity.
The moonlight was too dim.
Han Yue really couldn’t see much.
“Stop staring.
That monster won’t catch up anytime soon.”
As he spoke, Han Yue pulled Jill back to her feet again.
Once she was standing, Jill slowly steadied her breathing and calmed herself.
“Thank you…
You saved me again.
I feel like I owe you too much by now.”
“So what are you planning to use to pay me back?” Han Yue asked with a grin.
“How do you want me to pay you back?
Save you a few times too?”
“Let’s not do that.
I don’t want to be in danger.
But for a beauty as gorgeous as you, if you were willing to repay me with your body, I’d be very happy.”
“Get lost!
Dream on!”
“Heh—if I get to dream about you, then even a nightmare turns into a wet dream.”
“What exactly is inside your head?!”
Jill felt like she was reaching the end of her patience with this guy.
She stopped responding to him and walked straight ahead.
Not far in front of them was an elevator, but a reservoir blocked the way in between.
Han Yue pointed off to the side.
The crank should be able to drain the water.”
Very soon, the water level in the reservoir began dropping, revealing a path across.
The two crossed over and took the elevator.
The elevator led to the staff dormitory area of the mansion.
There were many rooms, large and small.
The two of them pressed themselves against a door.
Barry’s voice came from inside.
It sounded like he was talking to someone.
“No!
This isn’t what we agreed on!”
“But there’s no need to wipe out S.T.A.R.S.!”
“What about my family, then?”
“So the condition is that I obediently do whatever I’m told, right?”
The moment they heard words like “wipe out S.T.A.R.S.” and “family,” Jill and Han Yue exchanged a glance.
Han Yue had just opened his mouth to say something when Jill had already pushed the door open.
“Jill?”
Seeing someone suddenly enter, Barry’s expression immediately turned unnatural.
“Barry, I heard someone talking…”
“So you heard that, huh?
Looks like I really am getting old.
That bad habit of talking to myself is coming back.”
Barry didn’t dare meet Jill’s eyes.
He turned away and put on a tired, world-weary expression.
Only…
that acting.
Honestly, it wasn’t even as good as Han Yue’s.
Jill didn’t expose him.
Instead, she asked with concern, “Talking to yourself?
Are you alright?
What are you worried about?”
Barry avoided Jill’s gaze.
“Maybe it’s this creepy mansion.
It’s got me all on edge.”
“Anyway, I’ll be fine if I go outside and get some air.”
After saying that, Barry walked out of the room without looking back.
I’m just going out for some air.
If I’m lucky, maybe I’ll even kill a few monsters on the way for fun.”
Watching Barry open the door and leave, Jill frowned and shook her head.
Han Yue stepped up beside her and said quietly, “His family’s probably been taken hostage.
Someone’s forcing him to do something, and it’s connected to your S.T.A.R.S.
team.”
Jill bit her lower lip and said nothing, but her expression clearly darkened.
Seeing that, Han Yue comforted her.
“It’s nothing too serious.
Don’t worry.
Trust him.
He can handle it.”
Jill let out a faint sigh.
The two of them searched the room briefly and found a research log.
In one of the dorm rooms further ahead, they even found a suicide note.
It described the terror of watching coworkers turn into zombies, and the despair of realizing he himself had already been infected.
To be honest, even Han Yue felt a little depressed after reading it.
Following the dormitory corridor, the two of them continued deeper in.
There was a flooded passage in the middle.
In the game, you were supposed to push a few nearby crates into the water and walk across them.
But Han Yue really wanted to say: Couldn’t you just jump a gap this short?
Before he could even say it out loud, Jill had already leapt across.
Then she waved at him.
“John, hurry up.”
Han Yue: “…”
You’ve changed.
You weren’t like this in the game.
After jumping across as well, they kept going.
Not far ahead, they saw a huge iron door.
Beyond it was a massive water tank.
And inside it—there were sharks.
No need to say it.
They were obviously more infected-virus creations.
Faced with a shark lunging straight at them, Han Yue didn’t say a word.
He just raised his gun and blasted it with a single shot.
It’s not really mandatory—I’ll eventually upload all the chapters here—but it helps a lot in supporting me and allows me to dedicate more time to it.
