The Sanctuary exploded with silver light.
Aria heard someone scream.
She couldn’t tell whether it was Kael, Lyra, Orion, or herself.
The world disappeared beneath the brightness.
Then—
Silence.
Aria opened her eyes.
She was standing in a vast white chamber.
There were no walls.
No ceiling.
No floor.
Only endless white space.
“Kael?”
Her voice echoed.
Nothing.
“Lyra?”
Nothing.
“Orion?”
Still nothing.
Panic tightened around her chest.
She spun around.
“Where are they?”
A voice answered behind her.
“Safe.”
Aria turned.
A woman stood several feet away.
She wore a long silver gown.
Her hair flowed around her like moonlight.
A familiar crown rested upon her head.
Aria’s breath caught.
She knew that face.
The original Queen.
The woman whose memories had haunted her dreams.
The woman she had been told she was.
“You.”
The Queen smiled.
“Finally.”
Aria stared.
“Where am I?”
“Inside your soul.”
Aria’s expression hardened.
“Why?”
“Because the Sanctuary has awakened.”
“What does that mean?”
The Queen stepped closer.
“It means the final stage has begun.”
Aria shook her head.
“I’m tired of prophecies.”
The Queen smiled.
“Good.”
“What?”
“Because prophecies are only possibilities.”
Aria frowned.
“I thought they were fate.”
“They are written by those who fear uncertainty.”
The Queen touched Aria’s forehead.
“Your future was never decided.”
A flash of light passed through Aria’s mind.
She saw herself standing on a battlefield.
Kael beside her.
Lyra and Orion behind her.
The Shadow King before them.
Then everything changed.
She saw another future.
Lyra holding the Crown.
Orion standing in darkness.
Kael dying.
Damon screaming.
The kingdom burning.
Then another.
Aria alone.
Then another.
Her children alive.
Kael alive.
The Shadow King defeated.
Hundreds of possible futures flashed before her.
Aria pulled away.
“How many futures are there?”
“Thousands.”
“Which one is real?”
“The one you choose.”
Aria stared at her.
“Then tell me how to save them.”
The Queen’s expression became serious.
“You cannot save everyone.”
Aria’s eyes hardened.
“That’s what everyone keeps telling me.”
“And yet you keep proving them wrong.”
The Queen smiled.
“That is why I chose you.”
Aria froze.
“You chose me?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because you were never meant to become me.”
The words struck harder than any weapon.
Aria whispered:
“Then why do I have your memories?”
“Because I needed you to remember my mistakes.”
“Which mistakes?”
The Queen looked away.
“Trusting the wrong people.”
Aria’s heart tightened.
“Who?”
The Queen’s eyes darkened.
“Lucian.”
Aria froze.
“My father?”
“He wasn’t always your father.”
Aria stared.
“What does that mean?”
The Queen took a breath.
“Three thousand years ago, Lucian was the Guardian of the Crown.”
“Then how did he become my father?”
“He didn’t.”
Aria’s face went pale.
“Then who was my father?”
The Queen looked directly into her eyes.
“The Shadow King.”
Aria stopped breathing.
“No.”
“Your father was once human.”
“You’re lying.”
“He was the first King of the Shadow Realm.”
Aria shook her head.
“That can’t be true.”
“He loved your mother.”
“Then why did he become the Shadow King?”
Aria’s mind raced.
“Lucian…”
The Queen nodded.
“Lucian took his identity.”
“Why?”
“To hide the truth.”
Aria stared at the woman.
“Then my entire childhood…”
“Was built on a lie.”
Aria’s hands trembled.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because you weren’t ready.”
“I’m ready now.”
The Queen stepped closer.
“Then hear everything.”
The chamber darkened.
A vision appeared.
A young man stood beside the original Queen.
He looked like Lucian.
But younger.
Human.
He held her hand.
“I love you.”
The Queen smiled.
“I know.”
The vision changed.
The man stood before a black throne.
A dark crown floated above it.
A voice whispered:
Wear me.
He reached toward it.
The Queen appeared behind him.
“Don’t.”
He turned.
“I need power.”
“You have me.”
“Love isn’t enough.”
“It was.”
He placed the crown on his head.
Darkness exploded.
The vision ended.
Aria whispered:
“He became the Shadow King.”
The Queen nodded.
“Yes.”
“And Lucian?”
“A Guardian who sacrificed himself to protect you.”
Aria closed her eyes.
“Then why is the Shadow King inside him now?”
“Because the Shadow Crown remembers its first vessel.”
Aria looked up.
“Can Lucian be saved?”
The Queen hesitated.
“Yes.”
Aria immediately stepped forward.
“How?”
“You must separate the crown from the soul.”
“How?”
The Queen looked at her.
“With your own life force.”
Aria froze.
“So I die.”
“Not necessarily.”
“Then what happens?”
“You will lose your immortality.”
Aria stared.
“That’s all?”
The Queen smiled sadly.
“Not quite.”
“What else?”
“You will become completely human.”
Aria thought about it.
Then smiled.
“Good.”
The Queen looked surprised.
“You don’t understand.”
“I’ve never wanted to be a goddess.”
“But your power is what protects your children.”
“I’ll protect them myself.”
“You could die.”
“Everyone dies.”
The Queen stared at her.
Then smiled.
“Now I understand why I chose you.”
A distant scream echoed.
Aria turned.
“That was Orion.”
“Yes.”
“I need to go.”
“Then take this.”
The Queen removed the Crown of Eternity.
Aria stared.
“You already have one.”
“That was a memory.”
The Queen placed the crown into Aria’s hands.
“This is real.”
The moment Aria touched it, silver light filled the chamber.
The Queen’s body began fading.
“Wait.”
Aria reached for her.
“Where are you going?”
“I’ve waited three thousand years.”
“For what?”
“To finally be free.”
The Queen smiled.
“Thank you.”
Then she disappeared.
Aria was alone.
Until another voice whispered:
“Mother.”
She turned.
Lyra stood behind her.
“Lyra!”
Aria ran toward her.
The girl threw her arms around her.
“I thought I lost you.”
“You can’t lose me.”
Aria pulled away.
“Where is Orion?”
Lyra’s expression changed.
“He’s fighting.”
“Who?”
“The darkness.”
Aria looked around.
“Take me to him.”
Lyra reached for her hand.
They disappeared. New chapters come out on g.com first.
Aria opened her eyes.
She was back inside the Sanctuary.
Kael was fighting a group of shadow creatures.
Damon was protecting Lyra.
Malakai was standing before the corrupted walls.
And Orion—
Orion was kneeling.
Lucian stood behind him.
Black energy wrapped around the boy.
The Shadow King was pulling the darkness from Orion’s body.
Aria raised the new Crown.
“Release my son.”
Lucian turned.
The Shadow King’s smile appeared.
“You returned.”
Aria stepped forward.
“And I brought something for you.”
She held up the Crown.
The Shadow King stared.
His expression changed.
“Where did you get that?”
“The original Queen.”
He stepped backward.
“No.”
“You know what it can do.”
“Give it to me.”
“No.”
“Aria.”
“Don’t call me that like you know me.”
The Shadow King laughed.
“I knew you before you were born.”
“And I know you now.”
She raised the Crown.
“You’re afraid.”
His expression darkened.
“Of you?”
“Of losing.”
The Shadow King raised Lucian’s hand.
Dark energy shot toward her.
Aria blocked it.
The impact shook the Sanctuary.
Kael shouted:
“Aria!”
“I’m fine!”
She pushed forward.
Silver energy spread across the floor.
The Shadow King screamed.
The black crown appeared above Lucian’s head.
Two crowns.
Two powers.
Light and darkness.
They collided.
The Sanctuary began tearing apart.
Malakai shouted:
“The two crowns can’t exist together!”
Aria looked at him.
“Why?”
“Because one must consume the other!”
The Shadow King smiled.
“Exactly.”
The black crown moved toward Aria.
The silver crown moved toward Lucian.
Aria understood.
The crowns were trying to choose their vessels.
She couldn’t let that happen.
She looked at Orion.
Then Lyra.
Then Kael.
She made her decision.
“Nobody chooses for me.”
Aria released the Crown.
It floated between her and Lucian.
The Shadow King stared.
“What are you doing?”
Aria reached into the darkness surrounding Lucian.
“I’m ending this.”
She grabbed the black crown.
The Shadow King screamed.
“No!”
Darkness surged into her body.
Aria cried out.
Kael ran toward her.
“Aria!”
“Stay back!”
Her veins turned black.
The Shadow King laughed.
“You fool!”
Aria gritted her teeth.
“You said…”
Silver light appeared in her eyes.
“…that I needed your crown.”
She pulled harder.
“I don’t.”
The black crown began cracking.
The Shadow King screamed.
“STOP!”
Aria looked at him.
“I choose my own fate.”
The crown shattered.
A massive explosion ripped through the Sanctuary.
Lucian collapsed.
Orion fell.
The Shadow King’s spirit was torn from Lucian’s body.
And for one beautiful second— there was silence.
Then the Shadow King’s voice echoed through the ruins.
“You destroyed my crown.”
Aria stood trembling.
“Yes.”
The darkness gathered into a single point.
“But you forgot something.”
Aria looked up.
The Shadow King’s spirit smiled.
“I was never the crown.”
His eyes turned red.
“The crown was me.”
The entire Sanctuary went dark.
And somewhere beneath the earth…
a heartbeat began.
One.
Two.
Three.
Then thousands of voices whispered together:
“The true King has awakened.”
