In a short time, Lucifer and Adela were back in Lucifer’s room.
There was a TV camouflaged on the wall to look like a large picture frame.
The guards directed them to the stream before they left the two to watch it themselves.
The woman was a famous reporter in Man’s World named Carol Anderson.
She had perfectly coiffed blonde hair and a smart pantsuit on as she sat with the three alpha werewolves.
“Tonight, we have an exclusive interview with a few leaders from the Werewolf Clan,” she began the broadcast.
“They have asked to join us here because of a serious case involving a woman who was once a resident in Man’s World until she aged out and joined the clan.
Please welcome Prince Garret Markson, Prince Caleb Markson, and Alpha Brandon Kellan.” The three werewolves wore their hair neat and casual suits that softened their appearances considerably.
It was certainly an effort to gain favor and break stereotypes that alphas were rough and animalistic.
Adela found her eyes glued to the screen.
Being talked about and not being able to respond was dehumanizing.
She should have expected as much from them.
“Thank you for having us,” Garret was the first to respond since he was the heir to the throne.
The other two responded politely but less directly, allowing the Crown Prince to speak for all of them.
“Could you please explain the situation from the top?” the interviewer asked.
“Of course,” Garret relented.
“The werewolves are a group that believes in fated bonds and the sacred partnerships they create.
It is a process that is beyond our understanding, but the natural pull because of our pheromones is something that we cannot ignore.
Eight years ago, we met a young half-werewolf woman named Adela Rivers who, for the first time in our history, was compatible with not just one but three of our pheromones.” Adela felt a lump form in her throat as they rehashed a history she wanted to shove away and forget about.
Garret called her a “young half werewolf woman,” but she had been fifteen when she first encountered them.
“Just to verify, she is the one this story surrounds?” Carol questioned.
“Exactly that, ma’am,” Garrett answered.
“Rather than infighting, we came to an agreement that such special pheromones ought to be shared between us.
After her parents’ untimely passing, it was natural that she joined the werewolf clan for our protection once my father, the King, signed agreements with Man’s World to sever Adela’s ties to that world.
While bonded to the three of us, only I was allowed to wed her because it would allow her to become the Queen of the Werewolves.” The other two alphas patted Garret on the shoulders as he intended to be emotionally moved.
“Protect?” Adela asked the screen.
“An orphanage would have been less hellish than having to surrender myself to those alphas multiple times per week for years.
The werewolves were the ones who caused the accident that killed my parents.” In an unheard of display of comfort and without asking, Adela felt Lucifer gently lace his fingers with hers.
He felt helpless that he couldn’t protect her from what was being said.
“A touching tale of your protection, no doubt,” Carol responded to the werewolf heir, talking over Adela’s commentary.
“Now that we’re caught up on the backstory, what do you hope to achieve by having this broadcast to not only the humans in Man’s World but everyone across the globe?
Do either of you two want to chime in?” She referred to the other alphas.
Brandon responded next.
“I’ll answer this as the last person to see her before her disappearance,” he began.
“While we were together that night, I remember thinking she was acting strange, like her mind was somewhere else.
Normally, she’s more responsive to me.
I shouldn’t have been surprised when someone went to check on her and found her room empty.” “What do you think it could have been?” the reporter asked.
Brandon’s expression darkened as he explained, “I have reason to believe she was under the influence of a demon.
I know it’s a serious accusation, but her scent disappeared near a portal to Hell.
Word on the street is that she has been spotted with Lucifer.” Caleb realized he ought to correct the record a little bit, and he finally spoke up as well.
“Not to say that we’re placing the blame on the King of Hell, but it is suspicious,” Caleb said.
“We want to cover all our bases and for our mate to return to us.
That’s all that we ask.” Garret chose that moment to get more emotional as he directly faced the camera on them rather than the interviewer.
“Wherever you are, Adela, please return to us,” the Crown Prince begged.
“We will never stop looking for you.
Our bonds ache.
We know that yours does as well.
And if we find out that you are being held against your will, which seems to be the case right now, just know that we will come get you—whatever it takes.” Adela didn’t care to see how the interview finished.
She turned away from the television and sat down on the couch with her elbows against her knees and her hands holding her temples.
She was in such disbelief that she couldn’t speak for a few moments.
Being able to read the room, Lucifer shut off the broadcast and sat down on the couch as well.
He wanted to give Adela space to process what she was feeling.
“This is just because no one else will sleep with them,” she muttered, her voice hollow.
“They found me because their pheromones didn’t respond to other omegas.
I hate this.
I don’t want to be tied to them anymore.” “I have been looking into how we can erase this bond,” Lucifer admitted.
“I will work faster.
I will seek help from anyone who has the knowledge to do so.” “Thank you,” Adela whispered.
“Do you want to respond to them?” Lucifer asked.
“I don’t want to,” she admitted as she sat up straighter, her eyes seeming a bit more fiery.
“But I have to.
I can’t let them get away with lying through their teeth for a bit of sympathy.
The humans understand the right to choose.
If I can’t appeal to the supernatural communities who believe in bonds, I will appeal to the others.” “We can get you in front of a lot of eyes as well.
I will send it to the very place that broadcast this interview in the first place,” Lucifer assured her.
“Anything you need.” “Thank you, Lucifer,” she responded.
This time it was she who grasped his hand as she met his eyes.
“I mean it.”
