The forest was silent, but the air felt like it was made of thick, invisible sludge. Kai tried to stand, but his legs gave out, and he slumped against the jagged rocks of the mine entrance. Every breath felt like he was inhaling broken glass.

"Kai, stop," Clara said, her voice trembling as she knelt beside him. She reached for his hand, but the moment her fingers touched his skin, a spark of static electricity snapped between them.

"Don’t," Kai wheezed, pulling back. "The Narrative Gravity... it’s leaking out of me. You’ll get caught in the feedback."

Clara ignored him, her eyes burning with a mix of anger and sorrow. "I don’t care about the feedback! You just gave up two hundred hours of your life for a man who’s already half-erased! Why, Kai? Why play the martyr now?"

Kai looked over at Leo. The loyal shield was sitting a few feet away, staring at his left side. His arm, his shoulder, and half of his torso were now nothing but faint, translucent pencil lines. He looked like a sketch that someone had tried to rub out but gave up halfway.

"Because he’s not part of their plan anymore," Kai said, his voice regaining a bit of its edge. "The Script wanted him to die a ’Heroic Death’ to motivate me. By keeping him alive as a glitch, I’ve created a variable they can’t predict. He’s my anchor outside the story."

Leo looked up, his voice sounding like a radio station losing its signal. "I... I don’t feel pain, Kai. I don’t feel anything. It’s like... I’m forgetting how to be solid."

"Hang on, Leo," Kai said, struggling to his feet. "I have the shard. The Architect’s name is the key. We’re not going back to the camp."

"Then where?" Clara asked, standing up with him. "The Council will have sentries everywhere. You’re a wanted man, and Harlock won’t miss a second time."

"We’re going to the ’Editing Room,’" Kai said, looking at the red shard in his palm. "Or at least, the closest thing this sector has to it. The Great Library of Tormia."

Clara gasped. "The Library? That’s in the heart of the Capital! It’s guarded by the Royal Mages and the Script Guardians! You won’t even make it past the first gate in your condition."

"I won’t be going as a Hero," Kai said, a dark smirk playing on his lips. "I’ll be going as a ’Plot Hole’."

He turned to the mine entrance. "Clara, can you cast a Veil of Obscurity? Not a normal one. I need you to mask our Presence meters, not just our bodies."

Clara hesitated. "That’s high-level illusion magic. It consumes a lot of mana, and if the Auditor notices—"

"He’s already noticed us, Clara. The ratings are high. He won’t stop the show as long as it’s interesting. Just do it."

Clara sighed, raising her staff. A swirl of silver and grey mist began to surround them. As the mist thickened, Kai felt the pressure of the Narrative Gravity ease slightly.

[Alert: Presence Masked. Current Detection Risk: 65%.]

"Move," Kai commanded.

They began to trek through the dense forest, avoiding the main roads. Every hour that passed felt like a year. Kai watched his Screen Time countdown with a grim fascination. 204 hours... 203 hours... The ticking clock was the only thing that felt real.

As they walked, Leo stumbled. His Sketch-side was flickering violently. "Kai... I think... I think I’m losing my legs."

Kai caught him, his own strength failing. "Clara, help him!"

Clara rushed over, her hands glowing with mana. She tried to stabilize Leo’s form, but the magic just passed through the translucent lines. "It’s not working! He’s not anchored to the world’s mana anymore!"

Kai looked at the red shard. He didn’t want to do it. He knew the cost. But he had no choice.

"Narrative Authority: Anchor Guest," Kai whispered.

[Current Screen Time: 203 Hours -> 153 Hours.]

A pulse of red energy shot from the shard into Leo. The flickering stopped. Leo’s form solidified, though he remained a grey sketch. He looked down at his legs, his eyes wide. "I... I can feel the ground again."

"Kai! You just threw away fifty more hours!" Clara screamed, her face pale. "You have less than a week left! Are you trying to commit suicide?"

"I’m investing," Kai said, his voice cold. "Leo is the only one who can enter the Library without triggering the ’Protagonist Alarm.’ He’s a glitch. To the system, he doesn’t exist."

They reached the outskirts of the Capital by dawn. The city was a sprawling masterpiece of white marble and golden spires, looking like a dream captured in stone. But to Kai’s Script Insight, it was a fortress of predetermined events.

[Location: The Capital of Tormia - The Stage of the Final Act.]

[Warning: High Density of Script Guardians.]

"The Library is in the North Wing," Clara whispered, her eyes darting around. "But the guards... they’re Level 30 at least. And the Royal Mages... they can see through most illusions."

"We’re not going through the guards," Kai said.

He pointed to a small, unremarkable drainage grate near the city walls. It was covered in rust and moss, completely ignored by the grand architecture around it.

"A sewer?" Clara asked, her nose wrinkling. "Aidan would never—"

"Exactly," Kai interrupted. "Aidan would have walked through the front gate, fought a hundred guards, and made a grand entrance. That’s why we’re going through the trash. The Script doesn’t write scenes in the sewers unless it’s a ’Stealth Mission,’ and we’re not on a mission. We’re a bug in the code."

They climbed down into the dark, damp tunnels. The smell was overpowering, but for Kai, it was the smell of freedom. Here, away from the eyes of the public, the Narrative Gravity was at its weakest.

[Audience Reaction: Bored. "Why are they in the sewers?" / "This is a slow Chapter."]

"Good," Kai whispered. "Stay bored. Don’t look at us."

They moved through the tunnels for hours, Kai using his Script Insight to navigate the maze of pipes. Finally, they reached a point directly beneath the Library.

"This is it," Kai said, looking at the ceiling. "Above us is the ’Vault of Forbidden Lore.’ The place where the first drafts of the prophecy are kept."

"How do we get up?" Leo asked, his voice still echoing with that strange radio-static quality.

"We don’t," Kai said. "You do, Leo."

He handed the red shard to Leo. "You’re a glitch. You can pass through the floor without breaking the physical wards. Find the book titled ’The Architect’s Ledger.’ Use the shard to open it. It will show you the way to the Editing Room."

Leo looked at the shard, then at Kai. "And what will you do?"

"I’ll stay here and provide the ’Distraction,’" Kai said.

Suddenly, a loud boom echoed through the tunnels. The water at their feet began to vibrate.

[Alert: The Special Guest has tracked your location.]

[Entity: The First Apostle is approaching.]

"He’s here," Kai said, drawing Sunbringer. The golden sword flared to life, its light reflecting off the sewage-covered walls. "Clara, get ready. We need to buy Leo five minutes."

Clara stood beside him, her staff glowing with a fierce silver light. "I hope you know what you’re doing, Kai."

"I don’t," Kai said, his eyes fixed on the tunnel ahead. "But that’s the best part about being a glitch. Nobody knows what happens next."

From the darkness, the white-robed Apostle emerged, his simple presence making the tunnel walls crack. He looked at Kai, his static eyes filled with a cold, divine boredom.

"Back in the sewers, little glitch?" the Apostle said. "How fitting for a piece of trash."

"I’m the trash that’s going to clog your system," Kai said, lunging forward.

The battle for the ending had officially moved underground.
