The Pillers’ place, a wide large mansion coated with a range of soft colors from cream and egg white to peach and lavender.

And there were some patterns that stuck out which were clearly traces of their eight year old daughter, Emily.

Everyone in the neighborhood respected the Pillers, but couldn’t STAND their daughter.Full novel: Rubik’s Adventure — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

She was the noisiest child in all the neighborhood, and some parents perceived that she was too proud.

She never shut up, acted like she could do whatever she wanted and caused trouble wherever she went.

“That child is a pill!

I wonder how her parents sleep at night” a middle aged woman would whisper here.

“If I were the parents, I’d feel utter disgrace.

So pretty but she’s got nothing much for brains” another gossip there.

“She can’t even get her words out right” more would snicker.

Emily didn’t like the other kids and they didn’t like her.

They would mock her for not being able to get the simplest words right, and would always call her out when she blabs about everything that happens every second of her life.

“So annoying” “So loud!” “I wish she would shut up!” Emily didn’t have any friends while growing up, maybe one or two but they all distanced themselves either it was their mom that told them to do so because she was a ‘bad influence’ or they just got fed up with her non-stop talking.

So meeting Jordan who hung on to every word she spoke was the best thing that ever happened to her.

She could talk for hours when she was with him.

Which is what she’s doing now.

She kept on talking about the show, Jordan couldn’t even focus ON the show airing on the screen, but that was okay.

He didn’t mind.

She made it more interesting.

“Look, Jordy!

Look!

See Piper!

She’s totally kicking their butts!” Emily chimed and Jordan turned to the flat screen TV on the wall.

Emily stood up and tried to copy Piper’s special move.

Jordan applauded her for her effort, even though it wasn’t nearly any good.

“See!

I could totally be a space Range-range-” Emily struggled with the last part of the word “-er…

Range-er…” She looked to Jordan who gave her a nod that she was correct.

She flashed a big smile “Yeah!

I could totally be a space Range-ER!” She said, still not able to say the two syllables as one.

Jordan silently agreed with her with a nod and Mrs.

Pillers walked into the living room.

“Alright, you goblins.

Off to bed now.

It’s 7PM” Emily moaned “But Mommyyyyy!

I don’t wanna go to sleep!

I’m still wide awakey!

Seeeeee!”, with that, Emily used her two index fingers and thumbs to pull apart her eye lids so her eyeballs popped out.

Mrs.

Pillers shook her head, unwavering “Bed.

Now!

I’m going to bed too.

Even your father—” As if on cue, Mr.Pillers walked through the empty halls, holding a cup of coffee in his hands “Listen to your mom, Emily” Emily frowned and poked out her bottom lip.

She turned to Jordan who sat there awkwardly.

Jordan looked down neverously, unsure of what to do and afraid to meet her gaze.

Emily sighed “Fiiiine!

But only because Jordy is tired.

Right, Jordy?” Jordan looked up at her and nodded hastily, finally being able to agree with her without feeling like a let-down.

Emily hopped off her bouncy, cushioned couch “See?

I’m so much like Piper already!

I can read minds!” Emily took a hold of Jordan’s hand as soon as he got down as well and started to tell him another story she remembered about a human that could read minds.

Mrs.

Pillers watched the two children walk hand in hand into Emily’s room and smiled.

Mr.

Pillers walked into the living room as well and followed his wife’s line of sight.

“They grow up so fast eh?” He chuckled, taking a sip of his black coffee which was nearly ice cold.

“Mmhmm.

I want them to be like this forever” “That’s why we take photos, dear” Mrs.

Pillers hummed again before leaning down slightly to kiss her stubby, short husband who she loved so much and so dearly and who she had raise their beautiful wonderful daughter together with.

She’ll never regret anything in her life.

No matter what the neighbors say.
