“Psst.

Jordy!” A loud whisper was what Jordan heard as he was deep in sleep.

A hard shove was what jolted him awake.Full novel: Rubik’s Adventure — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

He opened his eyes and was met with a pair of sea blue eyes on a flawless white face with pink rosy cheeks, and hair scattered everywhere, it looked like a bird’s nest.

Jordan rubbed his eyes and yawned “Yeah?” “I’m not tired.

You?” “Mmhmm” Emily pouted and folded her arms kneeling on the bed while Jordan went back to sleep.

Jordan was once again woken up by another loud whisper “Jordy!

Please!” Jordan muttered “What should we do?” Emily’s face lit up at the fact that her best friend was on board.

“Let’s sneak out!” Jordan jolted upwards, his head almost colliding with Emily’s.

“Not out-out!” She explained, emphasizing on one of the ‘Out’s’ Just to the garage!

I thought I saw something really cool!” Jordan blinked and thought for a moment.

Why couldn’t they wait until morning?

“Why?” He had to inquire.

And as he guessed, her reply was “I’m boooored” She stretched the vowel sound extra long so she emphasized on how bored she was.

“Let’s be secret adventuriries!” She exclaimed “Adventurers” he muttered quietly.

“Adventuries!” Close enough.

“We’ll sneak in!

No one will see and then we sneak back in!

No one will see!

We’ll be more than adventureers!

We’ll be Ninjies!” “Ninjas” Jordan corrected with a small smile etched on his face.

“Ninjas!” She whooped and stood proudly on her bed, positioning her body in a crane pose.

“We’ll be the greatest ninjas in history, Jordy!

And they’ll write a story about us too!

We’ll be adventur—” She stressed as she added the last part “Eeeerrrsss” Jordan was proud of her but still wasn’t fond of the idea of sneaking out into the cold dark night just for the fun of it.

He rolled to lie down flat on his back, as he looked up at her and said “And what if we get caught?” “We won’t get caught!

We’ll be Ninjies!” “But if we do?” Emily pondered for a brief moment then a wide smile was plastered on her face “We run!” “But we’re not fast enough” “Then we run faster” “And if they catch us?” Emily sat down beside Jordan, times like this, Jordan always made sense and brought Emily back from her high…

“Then we beg them not to punish us” said Emily and Jordan let out a quiet sigh.

Yes, most times, he could help Emily think more rationally, but other times she was too stubborn and headstrong to let her decision change.

Jordan suddenly remembered the cube he once saw in her garage and wondered if he would still find it there.

“So are you in?” Emily turned to him and gave him the biggest puppy dog eyes he had ever seen, “Pleeeeaaase?” Jordan always saw Emily as his sister, and honestly, how could he say no?

She was his best friend forever and ever and ever till they grow old and die.

Jordan sat up and meekly nodded his head in defeat.

Emily smiled and snatched him in a big hug, which he swore were breaking his fragile bones.

### A loud clang of heavy metal from the garage door was heard as the two carefully lifted it slightly, and crawled underneath the small opening, Jordan going in first, as he couldn’t hold the heavy metal door for too long.

Emily carried the flashlight and shine it around the garage.

“What do we do now?” Jordan asked curiously as he walked towards a fallen box and picked it up.

“I dunno.

I just wanted to c’mere” replied Emily.

Jordan hummed and placed the spilled contents back in the box, but noticed something on the floor.

The cube with 6 mini squares on each face, and many colors displayed on various sides.

He could see the cube as though it was twinkling in his eye, and it shone brightly, but no, that was just Emily pointing at it with the flashlight.

“What’s that?” She piped.

Jordan didn’t reply and Emily boldly picked it up.

“Looks like…

a square?” “A cube” Jordan corrected her, slowly trying to retrieve it from her chubby hands.

Emily placed the cube in Jordan’s hands and brought a finger to her chin “I’ve seen that somewhere befoooore” she said, stretching the last vowel sound.

Emily squinted her eyes shut squeezed her face, trying to refresh her memories to try and remember where she had seen such an object before.

“Lee had one of these” Jordan blurted.

Lee was one of Jordan and Emily’s classmate.

He was an Asian kid who liked to solve puzzles.

Unfortunately, Jordan and Emily never got close enough to ask him what he was playing with, and most of the times, they were never in the class when he shared it with other students, but Jordan had noticed something similar in Lee’s hands while they were in math class.

He tried to remember his classmate’s exact movements and tried to turn the cube in different directions.

It moved.

One way, the other, it looked magical seeing how the colors assembled and disassembled over and over again the more he twisted and turned.

Emily was awed “Coooool!

Let me try!” Jordan gave her the cube without hesitation, but once in her hands, Emily tried to turn the sides diagonally which appeared hard to do.

“No!

It doesn’t work that way” Emily scratched her head “Well, how can we fix all the colors, then?” “I…” Jordan took the cube from her hands again and stared at the unappealing, yet alluring puzzle-themed toy, and he was certain that they did sparkle in his eyes “I don’t know” Emily saw how much her best friend loved the small cube in his hand and came to a decision “Well, you can have it” Jordan was snapped out of his trance of staring at the cube and he turned red “W-what?” “I don’t like it.

Looking at it makes my head hurt, and I don’t think mommy or daddy would want it if we found it here” she explained and gestured at the garage at the last part of her sentence.

Jordan stared at her in awe, his cheeks flushing with so much gratitude and unexplainable happiness, “You…

you’ll really let me keep it?” Emily nodded “And if you want, we can ask mommy or daddy just in case they still want it” Jordan unknowingly flashed a shy crooked smile which Emily returned with an even bigger and wider grin.

Jordan stepped forward and engulfed her in a hug, which she happily returned.

Emily would do anything to make Jordy happy, and Jordan would do anything to make Emily happy.

They had sworn since they met to be best friends forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever….

and ever.
