“You’re insane,” Su Wan murmured, tilting her head slightly. Her eyes swept over Lin Weiwei as if looking at a cold corpse.

*SMACK!*

A stinging, unfiltered slap landed flush against Lin Weiwei’s face. The sharp crack echoed through the quiet room, startlingly loud.

The sheer force sent Lin Weiwei flying off her feet. She crashed heavily into a pile of cardboard boxes loaded with bottled water and compressed biscuits.

Half her face swelled up instantly like a bloated, bruised pig’s head, and a thin streak of crimson blood trickled from the corner of her mouth. Two of her molars felt loose, her face a mask of complete disbelief.

Clutching her cheek, tears surged to her eyes as she stared blankly at Su Wan.

“I actually should be the one asking you two,” Su Wan said, her voice eerily calm.

No hysteria. No gut-wrenching grief. Just a flat, chilling composure laced with absolute lethality.

“You stole my supplies and pushed me down to feed the zombies. And now you turn around and ask if *I’m* insane? Your skin really is thick enough to stop a bullet.”

Su Wan stepped back toward Zhang Hao, nudging the blade forward another millimeter. A row of fine blood beads immediately welled up on his neck, trickling down his collarbone.

She looked down at the sickening pile of garbage on the floor from above.

“Since you both know the apocalypse is here and kindness is worthless, then chopping you into pieces to feed the stray dogs outside shouldn’t be a problem, right?”

Terrified, Zhang Hao burst into tears and snot, flailing his hands in the air in a desperate surrender. He began begging with a heavy sob, stripping away every last shred of his dignity.

“Wanwan, I was wrong! I really know I was wrong! Please spare me! It was all that bitch Lin Weiwei—she forced me! She said you were too soft, that you were just dead weight! She made me do it, I had no choice! Forgive me… we’re still boyfriend and girlfriend, right? I can work like a dog to protect you!”

Hearing this, Lin Weiwei held her swollen cheek and glared in utter shock at the man on the floor.

Just a moment ago, he was swearing eternal love to her and plotting how to claim the supplies for themselves. Now, faced with life and death, he threw her under the bus without a second thought.

Trembling with rage, she pointed at Zhang Hao and began shrieking curses, completely abandoning all composure.

“Zhang Hao, you spineless bastard! How dare you lie through your teeth?! You were the spineless coward who wanted all the food for yourself!”

Su Wan watched cold-eyed as the two irredeemable pieces of trash tore into each other. Her heart didn’t stir in the slightest; she simply found it utterly laughable.

In her past life, her ability to claw her way up in the cutthroat culinary industry had never been a matter of luck. From a bottom-tier apprentice prepping vegetables to an executive chef holding every gold award in the book, she had never relied on useless sentimentality.

In that line of work, the soft-hearted had long been squeezed out by underhanded schemes.

Now, thrown into a brutal post-apocalyptic world governed by the law of the jungle, the rules of survival were fundamentally different. Anyone who dared stab her in the back had to pay the ultimate price.

“Now, get the hell out of my house.”

Su Wan drew back the chef’s knife and raised a foot heavy with a thick-soled combat boot, planting a brutal kick right into Zhang Hao’s soft stomach.

Zhang Hao’s stomach churned violently. It felt as if his internal organs had been shattered to pieces, and bitter bile nearly spewed from his throat.

Like a tattered sack, he slid two or three meters across the slick floor, rolling straight into the entryway by the front door, curling up like a shrimp in agony.

Su Wan strode forward, grabbed a fistful of Lin Weiwei’s messy hair, and yanked her violently out of the cardboard box pile like a dead chicken.

No matter how Lin Weiwei screamed or clawed, Su Wan’s arm remained steady as a mountain. She dragged Lin Weiwei to the doorway and hurled her out the security door.

Lin Weiwei crashed hard against the curled-up Zhang Hao, both releasing a chorus of groans.

*BANG.*

Su Wan slammed the heavy, solid security door shut. Two crisp metallic clicks followed as she locked it dead from the inside.

The world seemed to fall silent in an instant.

Outside, the silence lasted barely two seconds before exploding into frenzied pounding on the door, accompanied by hysterical shrieks echoing harshly through the empty hallway.

“Su Wan! Open this door! If you throw us out, how are we supposed to live?!”

“For the sake of what we had, at least give us half the supplies!”

Zhang Hao kicked the iron door frantically from the outside, his voice dripping with desperate greed and terror.

Su Wan didn’t even bat an eye. She turned around slowly, quietly taking in the mountains of living supplies stocked inside the spacious luxury apartment.

Although the original host had been an utter fool blinded by love, her wealth and foresight in hoarding supplies were undeniably impressive; everything was exceptionally well prepared.

Fifty boxes of high-grade purified water were stacked neatly against the wall. Next to them sat thirty 50-pound bags of vacuum-sealed premium rice.

Inside the glass display cabinet, an entire wall was filled with various canned meats, canned fruits, and self-heating hotpots. There were also generous stacks of dark chocolate, high-energy compressed biscuits, and bags of salt and sugar.

In the corner sat several medical kits packed with antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and fever medication.

In the third month of the apocalypse, with order completely collapsed, clean water and food were life itself. A room full of supplies like this was enough to make the starving people outside lose their minds completely. They would slaughter each other for a single gulp of water.

This was the root reason why Zhang Hao and Lin Weiwei had been set on getting rid of the original host.

Just then, the shouting outside came to a sudden halt.

In its place rose Lin Weiwei’s distorted, horror-stricken scream, shattering the corridor’s quiet.

“Zombies! There are zombies coming up the stairs! Zhang Hao, don’t run—save me!”

“Get off me! Get the hell away, are you trying to get me killed?!”

Accompanied by Zhang Hao’s furious roars and frantic, hurried footsteps, the commotion outside quickly faded into the distance. Close behind came the heavy, eager snarls of several zombies.

The corner of Su Wan’s mouth curled into a bone-chilling arc.

She had deliberately made a scene without killing them on the spot with her knife for one purpose: to let these two fools’ screams draw the roaming zombies in the stairwell.

It was the purest, lowest-effort, and most satisfying way to kill with a borrowed knife. It disposed of disgusting trash while clearing obstacles for her upcoming departure.

Letting mindless monsters handle monsters who had lost their humanity was the smartest move.

*System, put all these supplies into the storage space.*

Su Wan issued her first real command decisively in her mind.

The system’s crisp notification chimed immediately:

*Command received. Calculating item value… All items have been stored in the initial storage space.*

In the blink of an eye, a faint shimmer swept across the room.

The spacious living room that had been crammed to the brim was cleared out in an instant, leaving not even a plastic bag behind. Not a single grain of rice or drop of water was left in this house that once overflowed with betrayal.

Holding the gleaming chef’s knife, Su Wan walked to the entryway and peered carefully through the peephole to observe the hallway.

She confirmed that the corridor outside was completely empty, save for several patches of foul-smelling, dark-red blood. Those two ungrateful wretches had successfully lured most of the zombies down to the lower floors.

The fire exit in this building was temporarily safe.

It was a flawless apocalyptic start. Su Wan took a deep breath, tightening her grip on the chef’s knife. Her eyes flashed with razor-sharp intensity, devoid of any past weakness.

She quietly instructed the system to scan and locate the nearest street-side shop suitable for opening a restaurant.

*Ding! Locked onto a two-story storefront with a private courtyard 800 meters away.*

The crisp electronic chime sounded in her mind, and the system even thoughtfully mapped out the safest route.

Su Wan pulled down the door handle and pushed open the heavy safety exit door stained with dark blood.

Without looking back, she stepped into the ruined world shrouded in crimson mist.

From this day on, she would be the one writing the rules of this apocalypse.
