Note!
This book is not a traditional romance; it is a story between two girls. If that’s not your preference, please look elsewhere!
If you don’t like it, please still respect it!
PS: The two female leads go from being “attracted to each other’s looks” to “sealing their love with a kiss.”
There will be kidnapping plotlines later on. If that bothers you, please don’t read.
Mid-October, inside Haicheng University.
The lingering afterglow of the National Day holiday still hung on everyone’s faces, and the campus was filled with a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere.
Yun Hui struggled to carry her suitcase as she stepped onto campus. A cool breeze brushed through her hair, and beads of sweat gently slid down her cheeks from her temples.
She took a deep breath and pulled her suitcase toward the heart of Haicheng University.
Yun Hui had recently participated in a national competition. Due to the significance of the event, she had postponed her enrollment by a month.
She felt a mix of luck and worry.
Luck, because she had successfully skipped military training!
Worry, because her advisor had informed her that her dormitory had been temporarily reassigned… All the roommates she had previously arranged with had been placed in other dorms.
She was even afraid to look up in crowded places. Unpleasant experiences from middle school had caused her to close herself off, turning her into a genuine social recluse.
Faced with an unknown dormitory, all that remained for her was anxiety.
Clunk… clunk…
The sound of the suitcase rolling across the ground caught the attention of others on the sports field.
At this hour, there are still new students?
A few people strolling on the field spoke up.
“Which department and class is this person from?”
“She looks like an art student. Is she from your oil painting major?”
“Everyone in our major is already here. Ask someone else.”
“How lucky, she probably doesn’t have to do military training?”
…So awkward!
Listening to the chatter, Yun Hui’s ears burned as if on fire—they were terribly red.
Why does the suitcase have wheels… and why are they so loud…
Under the gaze of many, Yun Hui quickened her pace.
She lacked the courage to make eye contact with strangers, keeping her head down the entire time as she moved forward silently.
Someone greeted Yun Hui, but she acted as if she hadn’t heard, stiffly rushing toward the advisor’s office.
“Hey, hey! Are you Yun Hui?” The assistant advisor, hearing the commotion downstairs, leaned out the window.
Yun Hui looked up to the second floor, her face flushed with heat.
“Yes…”
“The advisor is off-campus today organizing training for students. She asked me to take care of you.” The assistant advisor came downstairs and carefully observed the freshman before her.
Such an innocent-looking freshman…
Yun Hui avoided eye contact, only glancing briefly at the assistant advisor before looking away. “Which dorm is mine?”
Her voice was soft, carrying the gentle tone unique to southerners.
The assistant advisor took Yun Hui’s suitcase and checked the arrangements on her phone. “At the far end of the staircase, a four-person room. Dorm number 316.”
Good… fewer people to get to know in a four-person room…
Thinking this, Yun Hui breathed a sigh of relief.
“Yun Hui, you’re in the Comprehensive Energy Department. Why are you carrying a drawing board?” The assistant advisor glanced at the drawing board on Yun Hui’s back.
Yun Hui mumbled, “It’s a hobby.”
“That’s great. You can do something meaningful in your spare time.” The assistant advisor led Yun Hui toward the dormitory building.
Yun Hui trailed closely behind the assistant advisor, as if she had found a savior, following her shadow as she moved.
A warm, orange sunbeam pierced through the clouds, gently illuminating the dormitory building. Yun Hui noticed a single ray of light resting on the balcony of one particular dorm room.
It was like a light of Redemption in the gloom, guiding a lost girl into the embrace of the light.
Yun Hui was momentarily lost in thought. She wanted to capture this beautiful scene in a painting.
“Yun Hui! Hurry up! What are you standing there for?” The assistant instructor called out to her from the bottom of the dormitory building.
“Coming!” Yun Hui reluctantly walked into the dormitory building.
“I must say, why is your face so red? Haicheng isn’t hot at all, and I even carried your suitcase for you.” The assistant instructor glanced at Yun Hui and picked up the suitcase as she climbed the stairs.
“I… I don’t know.”
Halfway through her words, her voice trailed off.
As if denying herself.
The assistant instructor spoke while carrying the suitcase, “Hurry up, don’t space out.”
Yun Hui followed the assistant instructor to the third floor, and turning left was her dorm room, 316.
The door was pushed open, and it was very quiet inside, not as lively as Yun Hui had imagined.
It felt cold and empty.
In the four-person room, only two beds were made with sheets and mattresses, while the other two opposite were completely empty.
“All you latecomers have been assigned together by the school. The room next to yours is full, but this one—it can’t be filled.”
Yun Hui pretended to be unhappy on the surface, but inside she was overjoyed.
She liked it—she liked quiet dorm rooms with fewer people.
It would be best if she lived alone. Because her personality and orientation were somewhat unconventional, she didn’t have much in common with others.
Since childhood, she had always been invisible in the dormitory. She was used to not being noticed, and she was used to loneliness.
Because the person who matched her soul had never appeared.
“You don’t like it? I can talk to the counselor about it.” The assistant instructor noticed Yun Hui’s expression and instantly understood.
“No… I… I really like it.”
The assistant instructor looked at Yun Hui suspiciously, “Don’t lie.”
“I was just thinking about something else.”
The assistant instructor nodded, “Remember to register your facial recognition and fingerprint check-in information. I’m heading back to the office now. Add my contact first.”
Yun Hui obediently scanned the assistant instructor’s QR code, and a rare red dot appeared in her sparse message notifications.
After adding each other, the assistant instructor gave a few more instructions before leaving the No. 2 dormitory building.
Room 316.
Three people in total.
One was majoring in Chinese Language and Literature, another in Translation.
She was majoring in New Energy, and there were pitifully few girls in her class—mostly boys.
“Are you all resting?” Yun Hui timidly asked. Seeing no movement inside the mosquito nets, she finally felt at ease and opened her suitcase to unpack.
She had a lot of things, some of which she had arranged to be delivered earlier.
By the time she finished unpacking, it was already close to 7 p.m.
“Hungry…”
Yun Hui climbed down the ladder from her bed, and just as she put on her shoes, the door opened.
The person who entered was a tall, boldly dressed classmate.
Startled by the stranger in the room, she took a moment to calm down, “Are you the new one?”
The school had notified that there were three people in this room. She and Meng Yao were already familiar, leaving only the one named Yun Hui unseen.
“Are you Yun Hui?” Bai Yueming raised an eyebrow.
Yun Hui lowered her head and replied, “Yes, I’m Yun Hui.”
Yun as in “the multitude,” Hui as in “flowers.”
“Bai Yueming,” she said succinctly. “Your name is very nice. Whenever I caught a glimpse of it before, I’d pause for a few seconds.”
“Th-thank you.” Yun Hui’s face flushed.
She couldn’t handle compliments. Every time a tall, beautiful girl praised her, her face would instantly turn red.
Some people always wonder why Yun Hui can’t handle compliments. Actually, that feeling is just as shy-making as when other girls get praised by handsome guys. They just don’t know it.
“You study painting?” Bai Yueming sat back down and casually glanced at the drawing board leaning against the windowsill.
Yun Hui shook her head, her toes curling and uncurling inside her slippers.
Why did she have to explain this every time…
So awkward.
“I’m in the new energy major,” Yun Hui said.
Beep!
The door opened, and into the room came a “little lolita.”
“Whoa! A new roommate?” Meng Yao tossed her ponytail, her big eyes wide as she stared at Yun Hui.
“So pretty! Can I pinch your cheeks?” Meng Yao blinked eagerly.
“No!” Yun Hui pushed away the approaching hand.
She hated being touched by others! Always had, ever since she was little!
“Alright then, let me introduce myself. I’m Meng Yao, studying translation! Fluent in ‘six’ languages, like Mandarin, Haicheng dialect, Hakka, Cantonese, English…”
Bai Yueming cut her off: “Cut it out, you’re only half-proficient in all of them.”
Meng Yao chuckled sheepishly: “What about you?”
“Her name is Yun Hui, and she’s a bit shy. Don’t tease her.” Bai Yueming had already noticed Yun Hui’s flushed cheeks, brighter than the Red Fuji apples outside.
Meng Yao, who had been circling around Yun Hui, waved her hand: “Alright, we’ll get along well from now on!”
Yun Hui obediently nodded and sat back down to tidy up the books in her hands.
Without exception, the covers of those books all depicted two girls snuggling close together.
She… liked girls…
This was a secret deep in her heart, one she never told anyone.
