“Let me do it.”

Gao Lang suddenly stepped forward.

Both Qin Yueming and Lin Mingmei looked at him in surprise.Full novel: Space: I’m a Lazy Bum With Nine Lives In The Apocalypse — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Gao Lang!” Luo Xinxin called out immediately, her expression full of displeasure.

Ignoring her completely, Gao Lang looked straight at Qin Yueming.

“She’s my friend. I’ll take care of her.”

As he spoke, he crouched down, signaling for Lin Mingmei to climb onto his back.

Lin Mingmei was utterly stunned inside.

What was wrong with Gao Lang today?

Since when did he suddenly start acting like a responsible man?

“Hurry up,” Gao Lang urged impatiently. “Don’t waste time.”

Since he was volunteering himself, why should she stand on ceremony?

She might as well treat this as collecting a bit of interest in advance.

Without hesitation, Lin Mingmei leaned forward onto Gao Lang’s back.

Qin Yueming awkwardly pursed his lips before turning toward Luo Xinxin.

“Let’s move. We should find a safe place to rest first.”

“But where would there even be a safe place?” Luo Xinxin complained pitifully.

Qin Yueming had only asked because he was unfamiliar with the campus layout, but clearly Luo Xinxin was useless in that regard as well.

Left with no choice, he turned toward Gao Lang and Lin Mingmei.

“I’m not familiar with this school. Is there somewhere secluded we can hide temporarily?”

The moment he asked, Lin Mingmei immediately thought of the place where she and Gao Lang had stayed in her previous life.

Back then, the surviving students had all grouped together, and no one had been willing to take them in. After struggling for a long time, they finally found that isolated place to stay.

It would work perfectly for resting now.

More importantly, she wanted to see whether Gao Lang would develop a fever after arriving there.

If he did…

Then her fire-type superpower would finally be within reach.

The more she thought about it, the happier she became.

Meanwhile, Luo Xinxin kicked away a pebble angrily and muttered under her breath,

“Look at that lovestruck lunatic. She’s practically glowing just because a guy is carrying her. Shameless.”

Qin Yueming pretended not to hear anything and simply quickened his pace to lead the way.

“There’s a right turn ahead,” Lin Mingmei instructed calmly.

Qin Yueming did not answer, but silently adjusted their route according to her directions.

The zombies along the road were relatively scattered.

Qin Yueming repeatedly signaled everyone to remain quiet, avoiding unnecessary fights whenever possible and only killing zombies when there was no other option.

Everything had been going smoothly.

Then suddenly, frantic shouting erupted ahead.

Lin Mingmei looked up and saw a young man and woman trapped against a wall.

The man desperately swung a wooden stick to fend off zombies while protecting the girl behind him. The moment they noticed Qin Yueming’s capable-looking group approaching, they immediately shouted for help.

Unfortunately, zombies were extremely sensitive to both sound and the scent of living humans.

The couple’s shouting instantly attracted nearby zombies from every direction.

Lin Mingmei frowned slightly.

She had no interest in wasting time rescuing strangers.

Still, if someone else wanted to save them, she would not stop them either.

While she remained silent, someone else suddenly made the decision for her.

“Lin Mingmei, why aren’t you going to save them?!” Luo Xinxin snapped.

Lin Mingmei looked at her in surprise.

When exactly had she agreed to save anyone?

“Aren’t you supposed to love sacrificing yourself for others?” Luo Xinxin mocked. “Now’s your chance to show off.”

Lin Mingmei remained expressionless.

She truly could not be bothered arguing with an idiot.

“Heh…” Luo Xinxin sneered coldly. “I knew you weren’t actually kind-hearted. Everything you do has some hidden motive.”

Lin Mingmei lowered her gaze thoughtfully.

Was she really that obvious?

To think even an idiot could see through her intentions.

“Xinxin, stop talking,” Gao Lang said hurriedly. “Brother Yueming already went over to save them.”

“What?”

Only then did Luo Xinxin realize Qin Yueming had already rushed forward.

His weapon flashed through the air as he fought directly into the zombie horde, quickly rescuing the trapped couple.

Luo Xinxin’s face darkened instantly.

Qin Yueming was assigned by her father to protect her.

Yet he had actually abandoned her to save complete strangers without even asking for her permission first.

Once she returned home, she would definitely complain to her father about this.

Working together with the young man wielding the stick, Qin Yueming quickly eliminated the nearby zombies and brought the pair back to the group.

The moment the rescued girl saw Lin Mingmei clearly, her eyes widened.

“It’s you?!”

Lin Mingmei stared at her blankly for a moment before finally remembering.

This was the same girl who had shouted for help from the second floor of the school clinic earlier.

The young man recognized her as well, and his face darkened immediately.

“You abandoned us to die! Do you even have a conscience?!”

“What are you talking about?” Luo Xinxin asked instantly, her curiosity immediately piqued. “You know Lin Mingmei?”

“We went to the school clinic to look for medicine earlier,” the girl explained rapidly. “But zombies trapped us inside a room. We saw her outside and begged her to lure the zombies away to save us, but she completely ignored us and left! Isn’t abandoning people like that disgusting?”

Luo Xinxin immediately understood and shot Lin Mingmei a gleeful look.

“So you really did abandon them…”

Qin Yueming frowned slightly, about to defend Lin Mingmei instinctively.

But before he could speak, Lin Mingmei answered calmly in her usual emotionless tone.

“Oh, right. I remember now. You two were shouting from a room on the second floor, begging me to save you.”

The couple glared at her resentfully.

Lin Mingmei tilted her head slightly.

“But since I didn’t save you, how did you escape?”

“We had no choice but to jump from the second floor!” the girl snapped angrily. “Do you know how miserable that fall was? I almost broke my leg!”

“But did you break it?” Lin Mingmei asked flatly.

The girl’s face instantly flushed red.

“Of course not!”

Lin Mingmei spread her hands.

“Then what’s the problem?”

The girl nearly exploded from anger.

“How can you say something like that? What if we really had gotten injured? What if we couldn’t move afterward and the zombies killed us? Wouldn’t we have died then?!”

Her tone sounded as though Lin Mingmei had committed some unforgivable crime.

Lin Mingmei finally frowned slightly.

“And what if I had rushed in and been killed by zombies instead?”

“You…”

The girl was rendered completely speechless.

Her face turned even redder from anger and humiliation.

The young man immediately wrapped an arm around her comfortingly before glaring at Lin Mingmei.

“That’s just sophistry! You abandoned people to die and still think you’re right?!”

“Exactly!” Luo Xinxin chimed in immediately. “In the end, you only refused to save them because you were afraid of dying yourself! This is our school, and they’re our classmates. Yet you wouldn’t even help your own classmates!”

“Hah.”

Lin Mingmei let out a cold laugh.

She genuinely lacked the patience to argue with idiots.

“Enough.”

Qin Yueming finally interrupted coldly, no longer willing to listen to the nonsense.

“This isn’t the place for chatting.”

The couple immediately turned pale after noticing the growing number of zombies gathering nearby.

“We’re planning to find somewhere safe to stay temporarily,” Qin Yueming said proactively. “What about you two?”

“If you don’t have anywhere to go, come with us,” Luo Xinxin said quickly before anyone else could speak. “Yueming is a soldier, and he’s amazing at killing zombies. We’ll definitely be safe with him around.”

She instantly liked these two.

Anyone who could make trouble for Lin Mingmei was someone she welcomed wholeheartedly.

“Really?” The young man’s eyes lit up immediately.

“Of course,” Luo Xinxin answered directly, completely not giving Qin Yueming any opportunity to object.

Qin Yueming was left speechless.

Meanwhile, Lin Mingmei silently rolled her eyes.

Idiots.

And just like that, their four-person group became a team of six.

Qin Yueming led at the front, clearing the way.

Luo Xinxin, Ke Haiyang, and Zhang Rui stayed in the middle.

Meanwhile, Lin Mingmei and Gao Lang guarded the rear.

Along the way, Luo Xinxin quickly became familiar with the newcomers.

The young man was named Ke Haiyang, while the girl was his girlfriend, Zhang Rui.

Eventually, they arrived at the classroom Lin Mingmei had mentioned.

It was an unused room filled with old storage items and clutter.

The moment Luo Xinxin stepped inside, disgust immediately filled her face.

“It’s filthy in here.”
