Сhaptеr 12: I Wаnt а Littlе Сake
“Thеn whаt do yоu want?”
Xiе Zоngхun ресked Wеn Yао’s liрs, then turned аnd went downstairs. “Figure it оut уoursеlf.”
Wаtсhing his rеtrеating figurе, Wеn Yаo cursеd inwаrdly.
Аpart from thinking аbout whаt’s in his pants, cоuld he еver think оf аnything elsе?
The momеnt this thоught surfасed, Wen Yао hеrsеlf was startlеd upоn realizing it. Еver sincе meeting him, hеr temper hаd grоwn inсreаsinglу worse.
Mоst pеоple bеfore hаd prаisеd hеr, saуing she was а very gеntlе рerson.
It was all his fault.
“Come dоwn аnd eat. If your stоmаch acts uр аgain, the pain won’t kill you.”
Wen Yao slowly made her way downstairs and sat in the seat farthest from Xie Zongxun during the meal.
Wen Yao wasn’t picky about food and had a good appetite, belonging to the type who could eat anything. She ate with such focus that it looked delicious.
Xie Zongxun stared at her for a moment before starting to eat as well.
Unable to resist, he glanced up at her during the meal and remarked casually, “Is it really that good?”
Wen Yao felt he was mocking her for never having eaten anything before. Although that might be true, today she was in a bad mood, and everything he said felt full of hostility.
“None of your business.”
After the two finished eating, the housekeeper cleaned up and left, leaving only Wen Yao and Xie Zongxun at home.
“Going to walk the dog. Want to come?”
Xie Zongxun was casually holding the dog leash and some other miscellaneous items as he asked.
Wen Yao wanted to go.
Although she didn’t like Paopao’s owner, she absolutely adored Paopao.
So she went to the entrance to change her shoes. Xie Zongxun casually grabbed his jacket and tossed it to her.
“Put it on. It’s windy outside.”
Wen Yao hesitated, glancing at him and thinking to herself, “When he acts like a human, he really does seem like one.”
His jacket was loose and oversized, practically wrapping her up like a dress.
There was a large scenic lake in the neighborhood, and the two of them walked the dog around it. When Wen Yao saw Xie Zongxun holding the leash, she wanted to hold it too.
Xie Zongxun said seriously, “You can’t hold him back. He’ll lunge and might strain your waist.”
“Who was the one crying about a sore waist this afternoon?”
He brought that up again, and Wen Yao nodded indignantly.
As they strolled around, Xie Zongxun suddenly stopped and bent down, searching for something.
The lighting wasn’t great where he was, so Wen Yao couldn’t see clearly.
“What are you… looking for?”
“Picking up poop.”
“Huh?”
“The silly dog took a dump.”
Wen Yao found Xie Zongxun’s demeanor quite contradictory and couldn’t help but laugh.
Xie Zongxun stood up with a sour expression, then glanced at Wen Yao calmly, his tone carrying a sense of helpless resignation.
“What’s so funny? I’m a civilized citizen.”
“Next time, you pick it up.”
Wen Yao covered her mouth, trying to hold back her laughter. “No way.”
“I’ve said it before—your words don’t mean anything to me.”
With this little exchange, the atmosphere between them relaxed a bit, feeling more like friends.
Wen Yao suddenly felt that Xie Zongxun wasn’t so scary after all.
But deep down, she was still afraid.
On the way back, they passed by a convenience store, and the aroma of little cakes wafted through the air.
Wen Yao couldn’t move another step. “I want a little cake.”
Xie Zongxun frowned. “Always craving these disgustingly sweet things.”
“I’m not offering you any.”
“If you feed it to me with your mouth, I’ll consider it.”
Wen Yao glared at him. “Aren’t you disgusted?”
Xie Zongxun lowered his gaze, tied the dog outside, and took Wen Yao into the convenience store.
Wen Yao tilted her head and asked him, “Are you buying it?”
“You can buy it too.”Wen Yao automatically ignored that sentence and started browsing, filling her basket until it was full. She suddenly felt incredibly happy, and then she saw Xie Zongxun standing motionless in front of a row of shelves. Wen Yao called out, “I’m done, let’s go back.”
“Come take a look.”
Curious, Wen Yao went over, her face turning pale and then flushed.
“Pick a few you like, and we’ll try them out later.”
“…Can you even handle this kind?”
He put it back and picked up another, examining it carefully.
“Forget it, you’d probably end up crying again.”
Wen Yao’s face darkened. She dragged out her words as she turned away, “I don’t like it.”
In the end, Wen Yao bought ten boxes of different brands of small cakes.
Xie Zongxun bought ten boxes of different styles of condoms.
“Can’t you think about anything else besides this?”
Wen Yao only dared to speak after putting some distance between them, afraid he might inexplicably lose his temper again.
Xie Zongxun’s voice carried over, “With you, this is the only thing on my mind.”
Wen Yao was so angry she punched the air.
