When they got to the hospital, Alistair carried her into the VIP ward, not because he felt like it, but because she could not walk.

Doctor Patrick examined her and found out that she had sprained both of her ankles.

He looked at Zora, who was seated on the bed and had not spoken a word since she was brought in.

Her eyes were glued to the wall, gazing at nothing in particular.

“Do you think it’s the right time to tell her?”

He whispered to Alistair.

Alistair hissed.

“It’s your job, why are you asking me?”

Doctor Patrick sighed.

He did not understand what he said wrong that made Alistair so impatient.

A few minutes later one of the nurses brought in a wheelchair.

Zora was helped to sit on it.

While she was being helped onto the wheelchair she said something.

It came out like a whisper.

The nurse looked at her and asked,

“What… do you want, mam?”

Zora tilted her head to look at the nurse.

“Wa… I need water.”

Her voice came out hoarse.

The nurse quickly brought water for her.

Doctor Patrick, who had been on edge because of her silence, finally breathed out the air that was trapped in his lungs.

The nurse then asked,

“Are you okay?

Do you need anything else?”

Zora shook her head and smiled, but it did not reach her eyes.

“No.

I’m fine.”

Patrick walked to her and stood in front of her.

“Are you sure you are okay?”

Zora nodded.

“Is there anything you’d like to share with me, doctor?”

Patrick blinked twice.

He had not expected such a question.

He hesitated for some seconds.

“Yes… would you like to come into my office?”

Zora was wheeled by a nurse into Doctor Patrick’s office.

Alistair had long gone because he had received an important call from Kane. This story is hosted at g.com.

In the office, Doctor Patrick looked at Zora for some seconds.

He opened the file in front of him.

He did not know where to begin.

Zora noticed his hesitation and sighed with a smile.

“Whatever it is, just say it.”

Doctor Patrick pushed the file toward her.

“The thing is…”

Before he could finish, Zora spoke.

“Is it about the child?

Go ahead with the abortion, I agree.”

Patrick stood up immediately.

Before the words came out of his mouth.

“You agree?”

Then the next second he heard her say,

“Do you sell poison in this hospital?

I’d like to get some, I’m sure it will make the job easier.”

Doctor Patrick’s mouth fell open.

Then it dawned on him that Zora was not in her right mind.

Zora looked at him.

“Isn’t that what the world wants?

Go ahead with the abortion, but at least grant me one wish.

I want to go with this baby.”

Doctor Patrick held her hand without thinking.

“Don’t say such things.”

“Why?

Tell me why.”

Doctor Patrick saw the pain in her eyes.

He truly did not know how to comfort her, but he tried anyway.

“I don’t know why.

Trust me, no one truly knows why.

Sometimes life can be unfair, but no matter how hard life gets we have to keep pushing through.”

“Cry if you want to cry.

Sometimes we have to cry to find ourselves.”

She did not know if it was because Patrick asked her to cry or if it was something else, but tears dropped down her face.

Her eyes went to her hands, which were still held by Patrick.

Her lips trembled as she spoke.

“What’s the point of living when everything I have gets taken away?”

Sometimes things have to be taken away so we can fight to get them back.”

Another tear dropped and she sniffed.

“I don’t think I can find anything that I want to live for.”

“It doesn’t have to be a thing.

Think about those who need you in their life, those who would break if anything happened to you.”

When Patrick said that, the face of Aunt Becker appeared in Zora’s mind.

Patrick saw that she had calmed down, so he let go of her hands.

He walked to his drawer, opened it, and brought out a handkerchief.

He gave it to her.

Zora used the handkerchief to wipe her tears.

Then Patrick spoke.

“Now, do you mind listening to why we suggest that the child be removed?”

Zora sniffed and then shook her head.

“No.

I’ve already made up my mind to abort the child.

Whatever the reason was, I don’t want to know.”

Patrick nodded, but then he asked,

“Do you still need the poison?”

A small sound escaped from Zora as a grin formed on her face.

“No, I don’t need it.”

In a small private lobby, Kane handed a file to Alistair.

“Everything about the girl who drugged you that night is in the file.”

Alistair opened the file.

The picture of a blonde-haired girl was inside.

He raised an eyebrow when he saw the picture.

He looked at the file, then back at the picture, then at Kane.

“Does Max know nothing about his employees?”

Kane nodded.

“He had no idea about her.

Ever since he went abroad, staff were only employed by the manager.”

“Look into the manager.”

Alistair’s eyes went back to the picture.

“Send a message to Max.”

“Okay, boss.”

Kane walked out of the lobby.

A few seconds after Kane left, Alistair’s phone rang.

It was a call from Doctor Patrick.
