She wheeled herself back to hide behind the wall, but the goosebumps on her skin did not settle.
She could never mistake that face.
Those gray eyes were the kind that never looked at her with love.
Sandra had deliberately refused to answer her back then when she asked if her mother was in town.
She knew that there was no way those two would come to Pink Country on their own.
She peeped again, her heart throbbing against her rib cage.
For the past twelve years Zora hadn’t seen her mother and had secretly prayed not to.
However life always throws us lemons, but with Zora’s mother there was no way to turn those lemons into lemonade.
Not that Zora hated her mother, neither did she love her.
She just wanted the peace she had enjoyed for the past twelve years to remain without any more trouble.
Although her life hadn’t been entirely peaceful, even with the current situation between her and Viktor it could be said that it was far better than having her mother around.
She stayed hidden for about half an hour waiting for her mother to leave.
Although her mother had left long ago, Zora still felt the need to stay hidden until she was convinced she was truly gone.
She slowly wheeled out, but her eyes were still scanning every corner.
She really didn’t want to bump into her mother.
Suddenly she heard her name.
Zora’s body went stiff before it relaxed again.
When she tilted her head to look at who was calling her, it was the lady who had driven her that morning.
She was still waiting for Zora.
She had said earlier that she would drive Zora anywhere she wanted.
Zora sighed.
At least there were still good people in the world.
When Zora got to the hospital her phone rang.
It was a call from Viktor.
“What is it?”
Zora’s question came out patient.
“I’m not calling you for anything other than to remind you of my money… and your answer to yesterday’s question.”
“So stop acting like you’re special.”
Zora calmly smiled and was about to say something back but then the call disconnected.
She looked at the screen with a frown, but calling him back was something Zora would not do.
So she just tucked the phone in her pocket.
He had always been known as the illegitimate son of the Rolf family, but ever since he met Zora his life had been quite interesting.
He looked around his office enjoying the scenery around him, then closed his eyes.
His father had only remembered him because his wife couldn’t conceive a son, but how could he accept being called an illegitimate child?
He chose to open a boutique rather than working as a CEO in his father’s company.
At some point he had wanted to change his decision and go back to his father, but at this point those thoughts never came to mind.
While he was grinning and relaxing a knock came at his office door.
“Come in.”
The door opened and a young woman entered.
“Sir, there’s someone here looking for you.”
Viktor opened his eyes.
He wasn’t expecting anyone.
Who could it be?
“Did he say why he wants to see me?”
The lady gave a small shake of her head.
“Not exactly sir, but he said it was important… something concerning deals and money.”
Hearing the word money Viktor sat up.
“Where is he?”
“At the lobby.”
“Let him in.”
She bobbed her head once and then went out of the office.
A few minutes later a man walked in.
When Viktor saw him he felt like he had seen that face somewhere but could not remember where.
Viktor gestured him to sit.
He sat with a stiff smile as if he was learning how to smile.
“Good afternoon, Mr Rolf.”
Viktor rolled his eyes in his mind.
The thought of changing his last name crossed his mind.
The young man continued.
“I am Kane Harrar.”
Viktor frowned.
How come everything about this man felt familiar, even his name.
“Mr Harrar, have we met before?”
Kane replied. This chapter is updated first at g.com.
“No, I don’t think we have.”
Kane brought out a file from the suitcase he had brought, placed it on the desk and pushed it forward slightly.
Viktor looked down at the file.
“What’s this?”
Since Kane was bad at smiling he gave up and his face became quite intimidating.
“My boss wants someone from you.
All you have to do is sign and convince her to sign.”
The corner of Viktor’s mouth raised slightly.
“Why do you think I’d accept the offer?”
Kane leaned back on the chair.
“It’s your choice, but note that this offer will only last for forty eight hours.”
“My boss can still get that person without this negotiation.”
Viktor looked at the file on the desk, his facial expression slightly impossible to read.
He then looked up at Kane.
“I’ll get back to you in forty six hours.”
Kane stood up.
“It’s your choice, not mine.”
He picked up his suitcase and then walked out of the office, closing the door behind him.
Kane left without the file.
Viktor’s eyes lingered on it as it sat open on his desk.
In the VIP room Zora sat on her wheelchair looking at her auntie’s face.
The oxygen mask had been removed.
Doctor Patrick said she might wake up anytime, but at most within eight hours.
Although Zora was worried about her auntie, her mind kept drifting back to the bar where she had seen her mother.
Zora didn’t care about why Miller was with her mother.
What disturbed her most was what would happen now that her mother was back.
Should she start preparing to take all the blame for what happened to her auntie?
She wasn’t ready.
While Zora was thinking about everything, tears streamed down her eyes.
Auntie Becker opened her eyes.
After looking at the ceiling for a few seconds she cocked her head slightly to the right, only to see her beloved niece crying.
Her eyes slowly went down to look at what Zora was seated on.
She frowned when she saw that it was a wheelchair.
