Zora splashed the water on her face for the fourth time,
She looked up from the sink to the mirror water trickling down her face.
“What the hell was that?”
She asked herself, staring at the mirror
She had woken up from a nightmare, a very strange one.
Her hand went to her neck as she pulled down the thin clothing.
In that dream her neck had been grabbed by a man, she had fought endlessly with him but he still managed to grab her neck
“The knife had definitely cut deep”
“I… felt it”
Her hand feeling the spot in her neck.
She wasn’t sure why exactly she felt that the dream had happened before, as if it were a memory that had been buried in her subconscious.
She did not want to waste time thinking about it, she went ahead to take her bath.
Few minutes later she came out wearing wide leg blue trousers and a pink top.
She then carried her small pink purse that she had taken to work the previous evening.
When she went downstairs Alistair was already seated at the dining table.
Kane stood at his side as they reviewed something on his tablet.
Zora looked across the table and saw all kinds of unappetizing meals.
The urge to vomit engulfed her, but she still had to go to the dining table to eat.
Alistair looked up from his tablet, Zora was just staring at the food in front of her as if it were a plague.
“The food is not meant to be looked at so eat.”
Zora glared at him from the corner of her eyes.
“I don’t like the look of this food.”
Alistair sat up straight.
Kane could feel the shift in temperature.
“What did you say?”
He asked, suppressing the fire in his chest.
Zora oblivious to what was going on opened her phone to check how much she had in her account.
‘This should be enough to get a street food’
She stood up ready to leave the dining table.
SMASH!!
Zora startled by the sudden sound, she tilted her head only to see the floor messed up with broken plate and its content.
“Seat down!!”
Alistair commanded.
Zora stood still not moving an inch.
“I have somewhere to be and I do not wish to eat the terrible meals made by your staff.”
Kane knew his boss better than anyone, this wasn’t going to end well, he tried giving Zora signs but Zora wasn’t paying him any attention.
Alistair stood up from his seat and took slow deliberate steps closer to her.
“I’ll assume you didn’t just say that.
This is your last chance, seat down now.”
Zora stood her ground not shrinking away by his sudden outburst.
“I told you last night that I’ll pay you back, so if this is you trying to be my owner it’s not going to work.”
She was ready to walk away.
“I dare you.”
Alistair took another step closer to her.
“I dare you to walk past that door.”
Zora clenched her bag.
“It seems you’ve forgotten that you signed a contract?”
He took a final step closer to Zora, the space between them was just a breath away.
“Let me remind you, as long as your signature is on that paper you are mine.
But I dare you to walk out of this house without eating then watch what I’ll do.”
Zora saw that he wasn’t making empty threats and she hadn’t yet figured out who this man truly is, it was better to just lay low until she’s able to pay him back and free herself from him. Get faster updates on g.com.
She sat back on the chair, faced with the unappetizing meals
Zora forced herself to eat as much as she could.
She wondered if Alistair just liked punishing her with tasteless and weird meals.
Throughout breakfast Alistair did not touch a spoon.
When Zora was done Alistair stood up and went out.
Zora stood up immediately and followed him.
Kane opened the door of the Rolls Royce Phantom.
Alistair entered.
He tilted his head to the side only to see Zora standing with her head down.
Alistair didn’t bother about her the car drove off leaving Zora behind.
Zora looked up, this was a private area far from the bustling city.
It was impossible for her to get a cab around here she had hoped he would at least give her a ride, now she had to walk like five miles before she would be able to see a bus stop and if she was late she probably would walk an extra three miles.
Alistair was truly heartless.
There was no time to call Alistair names, Zora packed her hair into a ponytail and started her journey.
After several hours of running and walking she finally got out of the third bus she had taken, she bent over her hand on her knees, as she tried to steady herself.
“That son of b***h.”
She wiped the sweat which had formed on her forehead before walking into the hospital.
Zora first went to see how her auntie was doing before calling Kiara.
They met at the hospital canteen.
Kiara had a wide grin on her face.
“Thank you for making out the time for us to talk.”
Zora smiled.
“There’s no problem.”
Kiara brought out her ID and handed it to Zora.
Zora looked at it and then looked back at Kiara.
Kiara nodded.
“Yes, I’ve been recognized at my mom’s company.”
“Wow, that’s… that’s really great.”
“So now you can pay me my one million.”
Kiara laughed.
“Hi, hi, hi, of course I can…”
“And that’s the reason I’m here.
I came with another offer.”
Zora relaxed on her chair.
“Another banquet?”
Kiara shook her head from left to right.
“No.
Something much better.”
She brought out a file from her bag and placed it on the table.
“As stated in my ID, I’m an executive director in one of my mom’s event planning companies.”
“So I’d like you to work with me.”
Zora sighed.
“I’m not quite sure I want…”
Kiara cut her off mid sentence.
“The same amount every month, all you have to do is just be a manager and have teams under you.”
Zora picked up the file and looked at it.
A flash of how Viktor sold her off with a paper made her instantly drop the file back on the table.
“I’m sorry Kiara, I can’t.”
Kiara held Zora’s hand before she could withdraw it.
“Zora, you’re good at this, and this is a huge opportunity in your career.”
The word career made Zora laugh dryly.
“Career?” Does she even have the qualifications to call it a career?
But then the thought of being Alistair’s pet came to mind, she can’t be his pet.
She must pay everything she owes, her eyes went back to the file.
It was a good opportunity she could set herself free and also have something to rely on to pay for Becker’s medication.
Alistair walked into a well designed office where everything in it was brown except for the stacked files and the glass frames around.
When he got into the office he saw Maximilian going through some files.
Alistair sat down.
When he did Maximilian finally looked up at him.
“What made you remember that I exist?”
He asked with a quiet smile.
Alistair placed a black file on the table.
Maximilian picked it up and saw pictures and information of two of his employees.
He arched an eyebrow as he wondered what these two unlucky persons had done to offend Alistair.
He raised his head from the file and looked at Alistair.
“Anything that I should know?”
Alistair crossed his right leg over the other.
“Do you know them?”
Maximilian smiled again.
“I wouldn’t say, but at least I know they work for me…”
He then pointed at his manager’s picture.
“Especially him, he’s my manager.”
Alistair wet his lower lip.
“How come you don’t know anything about your workers, Max?”
“You employed two deceptive persons in your bar with zero idea of who they are.”
Maximilian stood up and went to the cabinet.
He brought out a bottle of Louis XIII.
As he was about to close the cabinet he tilted his head slightly to look at Alistair.
“I do know who Dom Kenny is, but I still agree that I do not know who the other girl is.”
He opened his drawer and brought out two glass cups.
“She’s a Cat.”
Maximilian froze mid air when he heard what Alistair said.
He then resumed what he was doing.
He poured the Louis XIII into both cups and then pushed one to Alistair as he picked up the other for himself.
Maximilian finally asked.
“She was the one behind it?”
Alistair took a sip of the amber liquid as the taste of the cognac spread across his tongue and down his throat.
“She failed.”
Maximilian picked up the file again and asked.
“What does this have to do with Dom Kenny?”
The corner of Alistair’s mouth raised faintly.
“He’s an asshole…”
Slowly the smile took its shape on his lips but did not reach his eyes.
“He knows who she is, and collaborated with her because she promised to give him the bar once you’re taken down.”
Maximilian laughed.
“Ha!
That’s funny, they say nourish a snake in your bosom and it will bite you… now I know it’s true.”
Maximilian’s eyes narrowed as the memory of when Dom Kenny swore his allegiance to him after he saved him from the death camp came to mind.
A smug smile appeared on his lips.
The bastard still had the nerve to want to convert his properties with a woman.
His eyes went back to the file for the third time as he saw the girl’s name clearly.
