10 – First Grade Textbook
After waking up from her afternoon nap, Lin Yaojia found that everyone had left the house.
Upon asking Aunt Chen, she learned that Lin Jingbei had gone to work, and Lin Fu had taken Lin Mu fishing.
Lin Yaojia’s expression went slightly blank. “Fishing?”
“Yes,” Aunt Chen nodded. “The master loves fishing the most. He said he’d catch a few extra today to make soup for you, miss.”
Lin Yaojia: “…Does Dad have any other hobbies?”
“He also enjoys grilled fish.”
“…”
The doorbell suddenly rang.
“Who is it?” Lin Yaojia asked, munching on a cucumber she’d picked from a plate.
“It’s probably the tutor the young master hired for you, miss,” Aunt Chen said, wiping her hands on her apron before walking over to open the door.
“A tutor?” Lin Yaojia was slightly shocked.
Her brother worked fast, didn’t he?
No wonder he was a big CEO.
When the door opened, a girl in sun-protective clothing stood at the entrance.
She looked about the same age as Lin Yaojia, with her hair tied in a ponytail and a backpack slung over her shoulder, appearing very well-behaved.
“Hello, my name is Su Weimo. I’m the tutor Mr. Lin hired.”
She seemed a bit nervous, beads of sweat forming on her forehead.
“Come in quickly, it’s too hot outside,” Lin Yaojia called out loudly.
Su Weimo was taken aback. This was her first time taking on such a high-paying tutoring job, and she had already felt a little intimidated when entering the neighborhood.
She had been worried that the wealthy young lady might have a bad temper and refuse to study.
But she never expected the other girl to be much friendlier than she had imagined.
Aunt Chen fetched a pair of disposable slippers and handed them to her.
Su Weimo pursed her lips and whispered, “Thank you.”
Before Aunt Chen could respond, a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice was suddenly offered to her. She looked up and met a pair of smiling eyes.
The girl was wearing a little tank top and shorts, her hair loose, with a sweet and innocent appearance.
“…Thank you.”
Su Weimo was stunned, mechanically accepting the freshly squeezed orange juice.
It felt cool to the touch, probably with ice added.
Lin Yaojia discreetly observed her, thinking she seemed timid, like a shy mimosa.
Lin Yaojia was extremely pleased.
She looked easy to fool.
Once in the study, Su Weimo opened her backpack and took out the textbooks.
First-grade Chinese textbook, first-grade math textbook…
Lin Yaojia’s smile froze.
Who the hell wants to study elementary school content?!
[Hahahahahahahahahaha—]
998, squatting nearby, was nearly dying of laughter.
“Miss tutor.”
As she spoke, a fair finger tapped on the textbook.
Su Weimo looked up and met Lin Yaojia’s utterly sincere gaze.
“I already know all of this.”
“But…” Su Weimo said helplessly, “Mr. Lin specifically asked me to teach this. He said we should start from first grade and go all the way to the second year of high school.”
Lin Yaojia took a deep breath. “I really do know it. You can quiz me. If I answer everything correctly, wouldn’t it be better for us to move on to more advanced material?”
She coaxed gently, “The later content is more difficult and requires careful study, so we shouldn’t waste time on the easy stuff.”
Su Weimo fell silent.
Lin Yaojia held her breath.
“That makes sense,” Su Weimo nodded, finding Lin Yaojia’s reasoning quite sound.
Su Weimo began asking questions.
“Let’s start with math.”
“Okay.”
“What’s 1+1?”
Lin Yaojia choked, suddenly feeling deeply humiliated.
“2,” she replied, bearing the shame.
“What about 2+2?”
“4.”
“16+7?” Su Weimo started increasing the difficulty.
“23.”
Su Weimo nodded in satisfaction.
Half an hour later, Lin Yaojia answered the last Chinese question.
Su Weimo said, “Mr. Lin mentioned that the young lady used to have some issues with her mind, but she seems fine now.”
She silently took out the second-grade textbook.
Lin Yaojia felt a headache coming on.
“How about… you give me a sixth-grade test paper to do instead.”
Su Weimo thought for a moment. “Alright.”
She actually had one.
Watching her pull a sixth-grade assessment paper from her backpack, Lin Yaojia gained a preliminary understanding of Su Weimo’s sense of responsibility.
And so, Lin Yaojia spent the afternoon doing test papers, completing both elementary and middle school levels, successfully advancing to high school proficiency.
Before Su Weimo left, Lin Yaojia said, “I’ll go out with you.”
“Huh?”
“I need to go to the mall anyway.”
Lin Yaojia stood up and stretched.
Her skateboarding itch was acting up again.
“Oh, okay.” Su Weimo nodded and slung her backpack over her shoulder.
Lin Yaojia took a taxi to the nearest mall and, following the sales assistant’s recommendation, bought the latest model.
Paying for it made her heart ache.
But once outside the mall, she placed the skateboard on the ground, stepped onto it, and gently swayed her body.
Finally, she felt alive again.
The girl, with her hair tied in a ponytail, had straight, slender legs and snow-white skin that was particularly eye-catching in the twilight.
She rode the skateboard, her ankles delicate and slender. She wore a loose white shirt over a light blue camisole, and denim shorts that accentuated the slenderness and fairness of her legs. She moved along, stopping and starting, until she finally halted in front of a barbershop.
Yanyan Barbershop.
The name was a bit tacky, but the place looked quite upscale.
Lin Yaojia stepped off the skateboard, picked it up, climbed the stairs, and pushed the door open.
The interior decor was stylishly cool. At the moment, there were no customers—only a boy with his back to her, taking a drink from the fridge.
Lin Yaojia stared at his dazzling silver hair for a moment before asking, “Boss?”
The boy slowly turned around, his narrow phoenix eyes meeting her round, deer-like ones.
“It’s you?!”
Lin Yaojia widened her eyes in surprise.
Huo Songjin pulled open the can, took a sip, and then said, “What are you doing here?”
“I’m here for a haircut.” Lin Yaojia wasn’t particularly skilled at styling hair, and the original owner’s hair reached her waist—it was simply too long.
Huo Songjin nodded noncommittally.
Cheng Yan came down from the second floor, wearing flip-flops and beach shorts, and immediately spotted Huo Songjin standing by the fridge.
“Bro, that’s the last cola left. If you drink it now, what will you have tonight?”
Huo Songjin paused, lowering his eyelids slightly as if thinking. “Something happening tonight?”
“Fatty called and said we’re having barbecue for dinner.”
“We’ll buy more then.”
Cheng Yan was speechless, feeling like Huo Songjin was practically fused with cola.
Only after descending the stairs did he notice there was an extra person in the shop.
The girl was holding her skateboard with one hand. Sensing his gaze, she waved her wrist in a friendly gesture. “Hello.”
Cheng Yan immediately straightened up, instinctively smoothing his hair before quickly smiling. “Hello! Here for a haircut?”
“Yes,” Lin Yaojia replied. “Just cut it a bit shorter.”
Cheng Yan nudged Huo Songjin with his elbow.
Huo Songjin looked puzzled. “What?”
“You cut the young lady’s hair. My hands are all greasy.”
“Can’t you just wash them?”
“…” Cheng Yan tried hard not to lose his temper. He closed his eyes, smiled, and asked, “Then will you handle the meat and vegetables upstairs?”
Huo Songjin fell silent, then put down the cola and beckoned to Lin Yaojia. “Come over for a wash.”
Lin Yaojia’s expression remained calm.
In reality, she grabbed 998 and exclaimed excitedly, “The big shot is washing my hair!”
