Сhаpter 6: Slеерing Тоgether
Lu Bеiхun closеd his eyеs, аs if trуing hаrd tо rеstrain sоmеthing. Не pulled Сen Wan, who was lеаning agаinst thе dооr, оpеnеd it, аnd was abоut tо throw hеr out.
When he оpеned the doоr, Cеn Wan hаd аlreadу thought of a соuntеrmеasure. Shе simрlу sаt on the flоor, wrаppеd her arms аround his long lеgs, and lookеd uр аt him with pitiful еуes. “Brothеr, don’t drivе mе awaу.”
Her vоicе wаs sоft and сoquettish, with а hint of shamеlеssnеss in her acting cute. Lu Beixun’s brоws furrоwed slightly, his deeр еyes filled with hеlрlessness. “Get up.”
“No!” If she pretended to be reserved and cared about face again, she might lose her husband. “Let’s sleep together.”
“Cen. Wan.” Lu Beixun looked down at her from above, suppressing his anger, his voice full of pressure.
Cen Wan clung to his legs and refused to let go, raising her eyes to meet his gaze. “Call me Wan Wan. That’s what you used to call me.”
Cen Wan was a master at being shameless. Even she admired her own audacity this time. It seemed that rebirth had unlocked such a potential in her, which was quite nice.
Lu Beixun was worn down by her persistence. He couldn’t leave, nor could he stay. If it were anyone else, he wouldn’t have been this patient. “What exactly do you want?”
Cen Wan blinked innocently at him. “I already said it. Let’s sleep together.”
“Let go first.”
“If I let go, will we sleep together?” She wasn’t a child and wouldn’t fall for such tricks easily. What if she let go and he ran away?
Lu Beixun’s jaw tightened. After a long pause, he uttered one word. “Yes.”
“Liar is a puppy. I’m letting go now.” She released her grip, grabbed his clothes to support herself as she stood up, gave him an awkward smile, closed the bedroom door, and locked it. “Let’s sleep.”
When she was about to take a shower, she realized there were no pajamas for her in Lu Beixun’s bedroom. If she went back to her room to get them now, there was a chance that as soon as she stepped out of the bedroom, Lu Beixun would lock the door from the inside.
Leaving was easy, but coming back would be difficult. She opened the wardrobe and took out one of Lu Beixun’s shirts. The shirt fit him perfectly, but on her, it was loose and oversized.
After finishing her shower, she came out, drying her still-dripping hair with a towel. Her legs were slender and long, and the skin exposed outside was fair and delicate. Wearing the shirt, she looked both pure and seductive.
Lu Beixun, who was sitting by the bed flipping through a magazine, glanced at her for a few seconds before calmly shifting his gaze back to the magazine in his hands.
Cen Wan stood in front of the floor-length mirror, drying her hair. “The shirt is a bit too big.”
It didn’t even show off her good figure. She had been secretly observing Lu Beixun since she came out of the bathroom. Apart from glancing at her when she first emerged, he hadn’t looked at her again.
She believed her figure wasn’t bad—slim where it should be slim, and curvy where it should be curvy. Why didn’t he take another look?
Tossing the towel aside, she moved to sit on the bed. At this moment, Lu Beixun finally glanced at her, a hint of displeasure in his eyes. “Dry your hair before getting into bed.”
“You’re the boss, you call the shots.” Before even touching the bed, Cen Wan went back into the bathroom. By the time she finished drying her hair and came out, there was an extra blanket on the bed. Cen Wan walked over and picked up the newly added blanket. “Is this for me?”
Lu Beixun responded indifferently with an “Mm.”
Cen Wan almost choked on her anger. She wasn’t some kind of wolf. Did he really have to… guard against her like this?
“What do you think I’m going to do to you?”
“I don’t know.” Lu Beixun dropped this sentence, picked up his clothes, and turned to enter the bathroom.
Cen Wan: “…”
Cen Wan angrily folded the blanket Lu Beixun had just added and put it back in the wardrobe. She lay down on the right side of the bed and covered herself with the blanket.Sleeping in his room, she felt enveloped by a sense of security, her mind relaxed. By the time Lu Beixun came out of the bathroom, she was already fast asleep, breathing softly.
Lu Beixun stood by the bed, his gaze gentle as he looked at the sleeping girl, no longer as cold and distant as he had been during the day.
“Why did you suddenly become nice to me?”
The question seemed directed at the sleeping person, yet also at himself.
Lu Beixun turned off the room’s lights, leaving only a warm-toned floor lamp on. He sat by the bed, quietly watching her. After an unknown length of time, he stood up, turned off the floor lamp, and left the bedroom for the study.
After Lu Beixun left, the person on the bed began having nightmares, as if subconsciously aware that the one who could give her a sense of security was gone. At two in the morning, she woke up startled from the nightmare.
She turned on the floor lamp. Under the warm light, fine beads of sweat could be seen on her forehead. She glanced to the left side of the bed—no one was there.
She cursed under her breath.
Lu Beixun, you big liar.
She didn’t know whether Lu Beixun had left the room or the Lu residence altogether, and her heart suddenly felt hollow.
A pang of regret struck her. If she hadn’t insisted on sleeping with Lu Beixun, perhaps he wouldn’t have left.
She threw off the covers, got out of bed, left the bedroom, and went downstairs. The living room was empty—he must have already left.
In the deep silence of the night, she was no longer sleepy. She went downstairs to the garden behind the villa, a place of stillness with a faint scent of flowers. Sitting in the pavilion, she let the night breeze wash over her. The early September night was slightly cool, and she loved this kind of atmosphere.
It helped calm her mind a little.
What should she do about Lu Beixun? It seemed he didn’t like being around her.
After sitting for a while, she looked up at the night sky and noticed the light in the second-floor study was on.
Lu Beixun…
She stood up and hurried upstairs, running all the way. As she climbed the stairs, one of her slippers slipped off, but she didn’t look back. Barefoot on one foot, she rushed to the study door, held her breath, and turned the knob.
Hearing the noise, the person behind the desk looked over, his expression inscrutable. Lu Beixun noticed her foot, his brow furrowing almost imperceptibly.
Cen Wan suddenly smiled, the disappointment in her heart instantly vanishing. “I thought you’d left.”
She shot him a playful glare. “Lu Beixun, you’re such a big liar.”
“Just handling some work,” Lu Beixun replied flatly. “Where’s your shoe?”
Cen Wan glanced down at her feet and smiled sheepishly. “It fell off while running.”
“Where?”
“On the stairs.”
Lu Beixun stood up and left the study. When he returned, he was holding a slipper. He placed it at her feet, took hold of her ankle, and slipped it on for her.
Cen Wan watched him, her heart feeling sweet.
Lu Beixun straightened up and looked at her. “Not sleeping?”
“I had a nightmare,” Cen Wan said. “Do you still have work to do?”
“There’s a bit left to finish.”
Cen Wan pointed to the sofa in the study. “Can I sit here and keep you company? I promise not to disturb you.”
The garden had been a bit chilly earlier, and she was dressed lightly. Unable to hold back, she sneezed.
Lu Beixun paused for a moment. “Go back to sleep.”
“Alright.” Cen Wan felt as though she was being dismissed but didn’t say anything more. She turned to leave. Lu Beixun closed the study door and followed behind her.
Hearing the footsteps, Cen Wan stopped and looked back at him. “You’re not working anymore?”
“No.”
Cen Wan’s eyes lit up. “Are you going to sleep with me?”
Lu Beixun neither confirmed nor denied it. He followed her back to the room, closed the bedroom door, and said, “Sleep.”Cen Wan felt a warmth in her heart. She returned to the bed and patted the spot beside her. “You should sleep too.”
Lu Beixun said, “I’m not tired.”
“Then I’m not tired either.” Cen Wan was afraid he would leave again.
“I won’t go.” Lu Beixun sat by the bed, watching her. “Go to sleep.”
Cen Wan only wanted him to stay with her, forgetting how he could possibly not be tired after working all night. She had caused him trouble. She got up, lifted the blanket, and stepped off the bed. “You should sleep. I’ll go back to my room.”
She smiled at him and turned to leave, but Lu Beixun grabbed her wrist. “Sleep.”
Cen Wan was stunned for a moment. Lu Beixun turned off the light, got into bed, and lay down on the left side.
It took Cen Wan a while to process what had happened. When she finally did, she smiled softly and lay down beside him, her heart filled with joy.
