Сhapter 7: Тhаt Thing Bеtween Нusbаnd аnd Wifе
Сеn Wan didn’t ехреct Lu Bеixun to treat hеr thе samе аs bеfоrе. As lоng аs hе didn’t push her аwаy, shе was alreаdy sаtisfied.
A heаrt doеsn’t grow соld in a daу, nor can it bе wаrmеd in а day.
Lu Веiхun lаy with his baсk to hеr. Cen Wаn lookеd at him and quiеtly moved а littlе сlosеr, nоt touching him, leаving a сеrtain distanсe betwеen thеm.
Lуing оn the sаme bed, еven if theу did nоthing, shе was happy.
Their relаtiоnship seemed tо hаve grown a littlе сloser.
With him by her side, she felt especially at ease. Before long, drowsiness washed over her, and Cen Wan fell into a deep sleep. Hearing her steady breathing, Lu Beixun turned to face her.
The next morning, when Cen Wan woke up, the spot beside her had already lost its warmth. Just after washing up, Aunt Yang came to call her for breakfast.
She opened the bedroom door and said “Good morning” to Aunt Yang, then asked, “Where’s Lu Beixun?”
“The master is in the living room.” Aunt Yang looked at her meaningfully, her gaze falling on Cen Wan’s neck. Finding no ambiguous marks, she seemed a little disappointed.
Still, it was already quite good that the two of them had spent the night in the same room without arguing. These things couldn’t be rushed; they had to take their time. When feelings deepened, it would happen naturally…
Noticing Aunt Yang’s expression, Cen Wan patted her shoulder. “Let’s wait a little longer. We can’t push too hard.”
Having her little thoughts discovered by Cen Wan, Aunt Yang let out an awkward laugh.
When Cen Wan went downstairs, Lu Beixun was leaning on the sofa, holding a tablet. She glanced at it—it was political news. Seeing her approach, Lu Beixun turned off the screen and placed the tablet on the coffee table.
His voice was cool. “Go have breakfast.”
Cen Wan followed him to the dining room. After breakfast, Lu Beixun didn’t go out but stayed home all day, though he barely spoke to her.
Except when necessary, he remained silent the rest of the time.
She and Lu Beixun sat on the sofa—she watched TV, while Lu Beixun looked down at his phone.
Cen Wan’s mind was completely off the TV, and she glanced at him from time to time.
The phone rang—it was Lu Beixun’s. Cen Wan’s attention was drawn, and she tilted her head slightly to glance at it. She recognized the number on the screen.
The owner of that phone number had Lu Beixun’s number thanks to her.
Cen Wan couldn’t help but frown. The owner of the number was Shen Jianyv, Lu Beixun’s childhood neighbor. Later, her family moved abroad, and her purpose for returning this time wasn’t pure.
In her previous life, she had caught this woman fawning over Lu Beixun in his office. To make Lu Beixun uncomfortable, she had generously given his phone number to her.
At the time, Lu Beixun’s expression had darkened to the extreme.
Her marriage to Lu Beixun was well-known within their circle, so Shen Jianyv couldn’t have been unaware—after all, she paid close attention to Lu Beixun’s affairs.
Even knowing Lu Beixun was married, Shen Jianyv kept fawning over him, even right in front of her.
Back then, despite secretly feeling jealous, she had acted completely indifferent.
Now, she hated her past self—utterly lacking common sense, downright sick, the kind of sickness that was incurable and beyond saving.
However, Lu Beixun hadn’t given Shen Jianyv any room for fantasy, treating her coldly and ruthlessly. Yet Shen Jianyv didn’t seem to mind.
Lu Beixun hung up the call without hesitation, and Cen Wan secretly felt happy.
But before Cen Wan could enjoy her happiness for more than a few seconds, Shen Jianyv called again. Lu Beixun’s brows furrowed slightly with impatience.
“I have a way,” Cen Wan tentatively spoke up. “Should I answer it?”Lu Beixun hesitated for a moment before handing her his phone. As she took it, a noticeable curve lifted the corners of Cen Wan’s lips.
Cen Wan adjusted her demeanor and answered the call, her voice weary and fatigued: “Who is this?”
Her tone carried a hint of annoyance amidst the exhaustion, as if she had been woken from a deep sleep.
There was silence on the other end of the line for a while before a voice finally spoke up: “I’m looking for Brother Beixun.”
“Oh, it’s Sister Jianyv,” Cen Wan said, casting a meaningful glance at Lu Beixun beside her. “Your Brother Beixun is still asleep.”
Cen Wan feigned exhaustion and let out a yawn. “You know how it is between married couples—just the usual things. Last night, your Brother Beixun was a bit too… enthusiastic, so he’s probably worn out. I’ll have him call you when he wakes up.”
Lu Beixun: “…”
Cen Wan spoke these words right in front of Lu Beixun without the slightest hint of embarrassment or hesitation. She lied effortlessly, her words flowing smoothly.
A faint, almost imperceptible smile tugged at the corners of Lu Beixun’s lips, but it vanished within seconds.
Without waiting for a response from the other end, Cen Wan hung up the phone.
She handed the phone back to Lu Beixun, wearing a look of someone seeking praise. “She won’t bother you again anytime soon.”
She tilted her chin slightly, as if saying, “Go on, praise me.”
Lu Beixun merely responded with a faint “Mm.”
Some people seemed to have already forgotten who had brought this trouble in the first place. Initially, Cen Wan had wanted Lu Beixun to simply block Shen Jianyv’s number, but even if he blocked this one, she would just use another.
After a moment of thought, she suggested, “How about changing your number?”
Lu Beixun pondered briefly before replying, “Alright.”
A little past one o’clock, she and Lu Beixun went out together to a service center. Cen Wan picked out a pair of matching couple numbers—one for Lu Beixun and one for herself.
The service center staff warmly congratulated them: “You two are so loving. Wishing you a long and happy life together.”
Cen Wan glanced at Lu Beixun beside her before turning to the staff with a polite smile. “Thank you.”
By the time they left the service center, it was already past two o’clock. They drove straight to the Cen family home.
While waiting at a red light, Cen Wan turned her head and said, “When we get home later, please don’t be so cold toward me, okay?”
Lu Beixun kept his eyes on the road ahead and replied with a soft “Mm.”
Upon arriving at the Cen residence, Lu Beixun carried gift boxes in his hands while she linked her arm with his as they entered the living room. Sometimes, the people you least want to see are the ones who appear most frequently.
Cen Wan’s gaze swept past Cen Xiu and settled on Father Cen and Mother Cen. “Mom, Dad.”
Mother Cen stood up and walked over. She was very pleased with her son-in-law, Lu Beixun, and couldn’t stop smiling upon seeing him. “Beixun, you’re here. Come, have a seat.”
Lu Beixun greeted them warmly and politely. “Mom, Dad.”
Father Cen chimed in, “Come, sit down.”
Mother Cen took the gift boxes from Lu Beixun’s hands. “We’re all family now. Next time, don’t bring anything.”
“Alright,” Lu Beixun replied.
Cen Wan held Lu Beixun’s hand as they sat down on the sofa. Lu Beixun’s gaze briefly passed over Cen Xiu, and in that moment, his eyes turned sharp.
Father Cen and Mother Cen grew more and more satisfied with their son-in-law the longer they looked at him.
Cen Wan asked, “It’s Saturday today. Isn’t Luoluo coming home?”
Mother Cen replied, “No, she has exams coming up soon.”
“You all chat. I’ll go prepare dinner.”
With that, Mother Cen turned and headed into the kitchen.
“How have you been lately, brother-in-law? Is everything going smoothly with work and life?” Cen Xiu’s eyes were clear as water, and the corners of his lips curled slightly, exuding an air of gentleness and refinement, though his words carried a deeper meaning.
A cold glint flashed in Cen Wan’s eyes before she broke into a smile, linking her arm with Lu Beixun’s. “I’m not sure about work, but as for life…”Cen Wan looked shyly at Father Cen and said, “If all goes well, Dad, you won’t have to wait long to hold your grandchild.”
Lu Beixun pursed his lips slightly and remained silent, thinking that Cen Wan had only said this to appease her parents.
