‘Judging by this girl’s excited expression, she might know them.’ Thinking this, Chaoyang also quietly sidled over, just starting to poke his head out.

But Feng Moxi yanked him back, mouthing the words, “If you want to watch the show, stay hidden.” He was always the type who loved drama and didn’t mind if things got out of hand.

If he ruined her good show, it wouldn’t be worth it.Full novel: Sword and Sanctuary — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Sure enough, Chaoyang gave Feng Moxi a few shifty glances before cooperatively peeking out.

His brows suddenly shot up, a hint of excitement in his eyes.

‘Just as I thought, sticking with this kid is never boring.

I didn’t expect animals to mutate to the point where a dog could kill people.

This Golden Retriever is interesting.’

‘If not now, then when?’ Feng Moxi clenched her fists.

With a flicker of her Divine Sense, the mutated Golden Retriever suddenly went berserk.

It spread its sharp claws, threw its head back, and let out a loud “AWOOO!”

The sound startled the monsters in the street, sending them retreating one after another.

Even the few people in the middle of the fight showed looks of confusion.

The mutated Golden Retriever’s eyes were now crimson red.

It bared its sharp fangs and launched a frenzied attack on Zhang Tao.

Although Zhang Tao kept retreating, the Golden Retriever pressed forward relentlessly, enduring the attacks from Wan Wanxin and Yao Zichong to viciously charge at him.

“Damn it, this Golden Retriever is insane!

Stop it!

Why the hell is it only biting me?!” Zhang Tao couldn’t be bothered with anything else now and roared furiously.

“AHH!” A piercing scream echoed through the entire block.

The Golden Retriever had viciously torn a chunk of flesh from one of his arms, exposing the stark white bone underneath, dripping with blood.

Zhang Tao’s pained screams immediately alerted Luo Yunxi and the others.

They started running over, but Chaoyang shushed them, waving them back and signaling for them not to approach.

Wan Wanxin and Yao Zichong were also frantic.

Zhang Tao’s strength was immense; he was the mainstay of their group.

The two of them sped up their attacks.

But the Golden Retriever paid them no mind, continuing to swing its sharp claws and fangs at Zhang Tao.

In just a short while, Zhang Tao was covered in wounds!

Chaoyang found the expression on Feng Moxi’s face fascinating.

One moment it was excitement, the next cold indifference, then what looked like vengeful satisfaction—a mix of all sorts of emotions.

It shocked him.

‘This girl is completely unhinged!’

A cold look appeared on Feng Moxi’s face.

‘It’s not enough.

Not nearly enough,’ her thoughts continued relentlessly.

At this point, Zhang Tao couldn’t care about anything else.

He turned tail and fled, but the mutated Golden Retriever was faster, pouncing on him and knocking him to the ground again.

It opened its jaws and bit down on Zhang Tao’s shoulder.

Another scream, another spray of blood.

Looking like a man bathed in blood, Zhang Tao writhed on the ground.

Trying to escape the Golden Retriever’s mauling.

But the Golden Retriever was locked on its target.

It ignored everything else, not even loosening its bite after taking a dozen slashes from Wan Wanxin and Yao Zichong, much to their astonishment.

Soon, Zhang Tao’s body was covered in wounds, big and small.

The most fatal was likely a gash over his heart—it was very, very deep, and blood had already pooled on the ground.

Finally, with another “AWOOO,” the Golden Retriever bit off his head amidst Zhang Tao’s final, agonized howl.

Then, it slightly arched its back, leaped, and bolted away.

Feng Moxi wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but after the Golden Retriever ran off, it casually glanced back, as if looking toward them in the corner of the building.

The thick scent of blood agitated the surrounding monsters even more, and they all began to madly pound on the front doors along the street.

Wan Wanxin couldn’t stay any longer.

She gritted her teeth and yelled a single word to the few who remained: “Retreat!”

Feng Moxi had no desire to meet Wan Wanxin right now.

Forgetting about the show, she turned to Luo Yunxi, grabbed her, and ran toward the back of the single-story buildings on the left.

Luo Yunxi was very surprised.

She asked softly, “What’s back there?”

“The mutated Golden Retriever.

If you can’t beat it, run.

It’s incredibly fast, got it?”

“Mutated…?

Oh, okay.” Luo Yunxi quickly agreed.

She had never seen a mutated dog, but the mutated monsters were already terrifying.

Something that even Xiao Xi was wary of must be even harder to deal with.

Just then, He Ping and his group came hiding over, all of them with panicked expressions.

The strange howls had made their hearts pound with fear, and they happened to overhear Feng Moxi’s words.

Their faces grew even graver.

The two of them quickly cleared away the monsters around them, specifically looking for unopened storefronts at the back.

While Chaoyang wasn’t looking, Feng Moxi rapidly started collecting supplies.

The few stores they had cleared out earlier had even fewer goods inside, suggesting someone had already been there.

Because of this, Feng Moxi was even more ruthless in her collection.

She took almost everything that was edible or useful, right up until Chaoyang and the others caught up.

Chaoyang looked at the two young women lugging hiking packs taller than they were and said with a smile, “Quite a haul, huh?

Need a hand?”

“Thanks.” Luo Yunxi, like a mother protecting her cub, shoved her pack behind her.

Her reaction made him chuckle.

“It’s getting dark.

Are you still planning to go back?”

“What about you?”

“I think this spot is pretty good.” Even if they were surrounded by monsters, they could still hide in the cluster of buildings behind them.

Although most of the houses were damaged, avoiding a large horde of monsters wasn’t a huge problem for them.

Unless a mutated animal showed up.

At the same time, Feng Moxi thought of the Golden Retriever.

She shook her head.

‘It couldn’t be so coincidental that it comes back to cause trouble, right?’

「The night grew still.」

He Ping and his group gritted their teeth and stayed.

The several groups gathered inside a small, seemingly sturdy commercial building.

The group from the right didn’t seem to have gone far either, apparently hiding in a small alley behind them.

Although many of the monsters in the street had been cleared out, resting right under their noses made everyone feel both tense and afraid.

At that moment, Wan Wanxin was filled with regret.

Their group of seven, which included four ordinary people, had just lost their strongest member, Zhang Tao, today.

“AWOOOO~!”

“WOOF WOOF, ARF ARF!”

Suddenly, the faint sound of barking dogs jolted everyone awake.

Everyone stared guardedly at the front and back doors.

Wan Wanxin’s heart sank.

She immediately led her few remaining members to retreat through the night toward the buildings behind the alley, getting far away from the bizarre sounds.

“GRRR, WOOF WOOF.” Countless mixed barks overlapped, sounding incredibly fierce.

Wan Yong and the others’ faces turned deathly pale.

Luo Yunxi opened her mouth as if to say something, but seeing Feng Moxi on high alert, she closed it again.

“Heh, sounds like a gang fight out there!” Chaoyang, on the other hand, was unfazed.

He pressed his ear to the door, listened for a moment, and then quipped.

“Sounds like there are a lot of them!”

Feng Moxi’s expression grew increasingly solemn.

She extended her Divine Sense and saw the Golden Retriever from earlier, now leading a dozen or so stray, mutated dogs.

They were in the middle of the street, tearing into a large horde of monsters.

The Golden Retriever’s fur stood on end strangely as it knocked down monster after monster.
