Daniel glanced at the crowd in the distance, then looked back at his brother. "I sent some of my men to search around the area. We should soon find something."
Without waiting for Richard to speak, he then grabbed a bag from another agent and showed it to him. "This is the reason that made my suspicions certain."
Daniel first put on some gloves and grabbed a phone out of the plastic bag. He then went to the messages and showed him the message where the officer was told to find and kill Nathan.
"I'm 100% sure that these officers were corrupt, and most likely they were killed in self-defense."
Richard observed the message carefully and looked at the other officer. "What did you find on the other one?"
Daniel smiled when he heard this. "Nothing. The other phone and the money were taken, as if this was a robbery and they missed the only phone by a miracle."
Richard glanced thoughtfully at his brother. "You mean the killer wanted this to look like a robbery?"
"Maybe…" Daniel smiled and shook the phone in his hand. "But conveniently, the evidence against the officers remained at the crime scene."
"So he wanted a way out in case he was caught," Richard added. As for mentioning why the one responsible didn't come to the authorities?
It was obvious that he didn't trust them, and he couldn't be blamed since some police officers tried to kill him.
Not knowing that the FBI was close to finding his identity, Nathan went back to the store where he bought his bulletproof vest.
Since the last time he was here, he saw what he was after, but it was too expensive to buy.
The owner grabbed the item and put it on the counter. "This type of night vision goggles is the latest model, so it costs $2,000."
On the outside, Nathan's expression remained calm, but inwardly he grimaced. After buying this, he would be left with only $1,250. Poverty was waving its hand at him.
"I'll take it." Nathan forced a smile on his face and paid the owner.
The owner had a huge smile on his face as he sold an item that was beginning to gather dust. "Pleasure doing business with you."
"Yeah…" Nathan grabbed the goggles and then left the shop in a hurry.
Instead of heading back to that abandoned house, he headed directly for the marked location on his phone.
On the way, he stopped at a gas station and bought some containers and filled them with gasoline, and some other things from the store.
Thankfully, he had the inventory, so he didn't have to worry about the transport.
Nathan walked for a few hours toward that location. The reason it took that long, besides the fact that he walked on foot, was because he changed his clothes regularly so he couldn't be spotted on cameras.
At first, he thought of taking a taxi, but he was afraid of leaving traces, so he acted like a deeply paranoid person.
Nathan stepped on some dried wood as he looked ahead. Surrounded by trees, a building that seemed abandoned stood out from its surroundings.
He then looked at his phone, then at the building, and was certain that it was the right location.
In that moment, the phone trembled and the screen turned red as a new mission appeared on it.
[Main Mission Received]
Objective: Kill the hidden boss that caused your problems, and destroy this base.
Rewards: Calculated based on the end results.
Nathan read the mission and looked at the building in the distance. He was wondering when a mission would come, and it appeared.
"The boss…" He was curious about why the most important objective was the Boss, and what would happen if he only destroyed this base.
Nathan then shook his head, as it didn't matter anymore. He would end all of this with the so-called boss dead and this base burned to the ground.
His eyes lost the panicked look he had in the beginning when he came to this world. Those people unknowingly made a killer out of him.
And the worst part was that Nathan actually began to like it.
"Let's get to work." He grabbed some binoculars from his inventory and walked closer to the building.
And so, for the next few hours, Nathan studied the building carefully, noting every person he saw and every weapon they had.
It was midnight, so only the crickets could be heard. After writing the last detail of the building, he looked at his notes for a few minutes and nodded.
He closed the notebook and stored all the stuff he didn't need in the inventory, and then he grabbed the goggles, ready to use them.
Nathan stared at the sky for a few seconds, then walked toward the building.
