They were simply too far away, and with those people’s attention entirely focused on the Egg Thief, no one noticed the little toddler’s presence.
The little one puffed out their cheeks, balanced an eggshell on their head, and chased after them with short, stubby legs.
As they chased, they gnawed on the eggshell perched atop their head.
At the same time, they did not forget to command: “Don’t eat the Light Wolf!”
……
“Damnable Egg Thief!” Gong Shi and the others surrounded Gu Qingyun, their eyes blazing with fury.
Gu Qingyun swept her cold gaze around, tightening her grip on the dagger. These people possessed formidable martial power; if she confronted them head-on, she was probably no match for them.
After turning the matter over in her mind, Gu Qingyun gave a cold snort. “Egg Thief? Which of your eyes saw me steal an egg?”
“Don’t try to argue! That egg was placed in the tomb cavern by us. If you didn’t steal our egg, how could the egg in the tomb cavern have disappeared? And where did you get such a huge egg? There are no large Profound Beasts in this Ghost Tomb Forest,” Gong Shi said furiously.
Gu Qingyun sneered. “Ridiculous. I don’t know anything about your tomb cavern. You accuse me of stealing an egg, but I suspect you wanted to steal it yourselves. When you failed, you turned your covetous eyes toward the egg in my possession. Dressed all in black and skulking around—you obviously aren’t good people!”
The Palace Guards were enraged when they heard this. What an Egg Thief—she had actually turned the accusation back on them!
“Enough nonsense! Take her down!” Gong Shi shouted fiercely, drawing the sword at his waist. Its cold gleam flashed through the darkness like Lightning as it struck swiftly toward Gu Qingyun.
Gu Qingyun’s phoenix eyes narrowed slightly. She flung her left hand forward, sending leaves shooting out like Throwing Knives.
The Palace Guards either dodged aside or used their swords to block them, remaining completely unharmed.
In the blink of an eye, they closed in on Gu Qingyun.
Gu Qingyun furrowed her brows. The leaves did not have enough destructive power. If they had been Throwing Knives, she absolutely would not have allowed them to dodge so easily.
She tightened her grip on the dagger, bent down to evade the cold gleam coming straight at her, and simultaneously swept her arm sideways. Like reaping grain, she slashed toward Gong Shi’s legs.
Gong Shi leaped up and thrust his sword toward her head.
At the same time, several sharp swords stabbed in from all directions, cutting off every avenue of retreat.
Gu Qingyun’s pupils suddenly contracted, and a ruthless expression surfaced on her face.
Yet she advanced instead of retreating, her wrist unleashing the might of raging waves as the dagger flew toward Gong Shi at a speed too fast for the naked eye to perceive.
Gong Shi’s expression changed drastically. He had never expected this Egg Thief to be so reckless with her life!
He hurriedly retreated, but the dagger still pierced through his body.
Gong Shi landed and staggered backward, covering the bleeding wound in his waist with one hand.
A wave of lingering fear swept over him. If he had not dodged in time, the dagger would have pierced not his waist, but his heart.
“Gong Shi!” When the other Palace Guards saw him injured, they were all startled, and their hands attacking Gu Qingyun involuntarily paused.
“Don’t worry about me. Catch her!” Gong Shi worried that the cunning Egg Thief would take the opportunity to escape, and hurriedly shouted.
“Where do you think you’re going!” The Palace Guards recovered and indeed saw Gu Qingyun Escaping. Two of them leaped over her head and blocked her path.
Just then, a round, rolling “ball” came charging over in a furious rush, knocking the Palace Guards this way and that.
Gu Qingyun stared blankly at the two Palace Guards who had suddenly fallen in front of her. What was going on?
Before she could figure out what had happened, her lower leg suddenly grew heavy, entangled by something.
Gu Qingyun was startled. What incredible speed!
She was just about to kick the thing away when she suddenly heard a soft, childish voice from beside her feet: “mother, carry me!”
Mo……ther?
