Of course, with his charm, Ren was able to get her to act normal again with a few jokes.
It didn’t take long before Souna stopped being nervous around him and returned to her usual self.
The calm, intelligent, slightly bossy smarty pants that he actually liked talking to.
“So,” Ren said casually, leaning back in his chair.
“How’s Student Council life treating you?”
“Busy.”
Souna glanced at the papers she’d pushed aside.
“Unlike someone, I actually have responsibilities.”
Ren looked offended.
“Wow.
First thing Monday morning and already attacking me.”
“I’m simply stating a fact.” Souna smiled slightly.
“Also You’re the one who came here because you were bored.”
“Well some would say I’m consistent.” ( Hmm, that didn’t sound the way I wanted it to)
“That’s not something to be proud of to be honest ”
Ren laughed.
The two continued talking about school, teachers, students, and the various ridiculous things they’d seen around campus.
At some point, Souna started complaining about students who kept ignoring the rules.
“You know, if people simply followed instructions, my workload would be significantly smaller.”
“Then stop making rules, it’s that easy”
“That’s not how a Student Council works.”
“You’re not even president yet and you’re complaining.”
Souna slowly turned toward him, her expression completely serious.
“If you want to get married, wear a wedding dress.”
Ren froze for a second.
Then his eyes widened dramatically.
“Ohhh…Peak writing.
Is Shakespeare really dead?”
Souna simply frowned at him.
That was enough to make Ren burst out laughing.
Soon, Souna started laughing as well, shaking her head at his stupidity.
The two continued laughing together for a few moments before Souna suddenly stared directly into his eyes.
“You know…
today’s a holiday, right?”
Ren’s smile slowly disappeared.
“…Hmmm?”
“It’s a holiday.” She adjusted her glasses.”There’s no school today.
I’m just here doing work.”
Silence.
Ren stared at her.
Souna stared back.
His brain slowly processed her words.
Then, he remembered his morning.
His parents had been completely relaxed when he’d left the house.
There hadn’t been any traffic around the school.
The streets had been unusually quiet and now that he thought about it.
He hadn’t seen a single other student on his way here.
‘Now that I think about it…
I’m not early.’ He slowly looked around the empty Student Council office.
‘There’s just nobody here.’
Souna watched the realization slowly spread across his face.
Then she burst out laughing.
“Ren…” She covered her mouth while trying to contain herself.
“You really came all the way here thinking you had school?”
Ren remained completely still, still locked in shock.
The silence of the empty school pressed in around them, broken only by the faint tick of the wall clock and the soft sound of their breathing.
For a long moment he just stared at her, as if half-expecting the moment to shatter.
After the initial rush of adrenaline finally settled, a slow smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
He realized, fully and suddenly, that they were alone.
No students or teachers.
Just the two of them in the entire building.
He stood and offered his hand.
Souna took it without hesitation.
His fingers closed around hers, warm and steady, and he gently pulled her toward the door of the student council office.
“Let’s walk around,” he said, voice low.
Their footsteps echoed softly down the deserted hallway.
The usual noise of lockers slamming, laughter, and distant conversations was gone, replaced by an almost unnatural quiet.
Sunlight slanted through the tall windows in long golden bars, dust motes drifting lazily in the beams.
“Kinda peaceful,” Ren murmured, glancing around.
“Yes, it is.” Souna’s voice was quieter than usual, almost thoughtful.
“I can finally breathe without some random girl confessing to me every five minutes.”
He raised an eyebrow.
“For real?
I thought only guys simped for you.”
“Well, girls do too,” she replied with a small shrug.
“And I’m not a fan.” A faint smirk touched her lips.
“But what can you do?”
“Yeah,” he agreed, squeezing her hand once.
“What can you do.”
They wandered without any real destination.
In their classroom, Souna stepped up to the teacher’s desk, picked up a piece of chalk, and began writing nonsense equations on the board with exaggerated seriousness.
Ren sat in the front row like a model student, answering her made-up questions with equally ridiculous answers until both of them were laughing under their breath.
The empty desks and quiet room made the whole thing feel strangely intimate, like they were the only two people left in the world.
Eventually they drifted to the cafeteria.
The kitchens were dark and still.
Ren found the lights; Souna found the ingredients.
She moved with surprising confidence, measuring flour, cracking eggs, and mixing batter while he leaned against the counter and watched.
“You sure you know what you’re doing?” he teased.
She shot him a look over her shoulder.
“Why?
Do I look like I can’t take care of myself?
Like Rias?”
“Woah.
Shots fired.” He held up both hands in mock surrender, grinning.
When the small cake finally came out of the oven, golden and fragrant, Souna carefully sliced a piece and held it out to him on a fork.
He took a bite.
The texture was soft, the sweetness balanced, a little denser than a professional bakery’s but still genuinely good.
“How does it taste?” she asked, watching him closely.
“Hmm.
Pretty good.” He chewed slowly, eyes never leaving hers.
Then he stepped closer, close enough that she could feel the warmth of his body.
His voice dropped.
“But I much prefer this strawberry taste.”
Before she could answer, he leaned in and kissed her.
The kiss was slow at first soft pressure, the faint sweetness of the cake still on his lips.
Souna’s breath caught.
One of his hands found her waist, the other still holding the fork loosely at his side.
She didn’t pull away.
Instead she tilted her head slightly letting the kiss deepen gradually.
What started as soft pressure grew warmer, hungrier.
Ren set the fork down on the counter without looking, both hands now free to settle at Souna’s waist.
His fingers curled lightly into the fabric of her shirt, pulling her a fraction closer until their bodies almost touched.
Souna’s hands rose almost on their own, resting against his chest.
She could feel the steady thump of his heartbeat under her palms.
The strawberry sweetness of the cake still lingered between them, mixing with the faint scent of his cologne and the warm, clean smell of the empty kitchen.
When his tongue brushed lightly against her lower lip, she opened for him without hesitation, a quiet breath escaping into the kiss.
Ren tilted his head, deepening the kiss further, one hand sliding slowly up her back while the other stayed firm at her waist.
Souna pressed closer, the last bit of space between them disappearing.
Her fingers curled into his shirt, holding on.
When they finally broke apart, both were breathing a little harder.
Ren rested his forehead lightly against hers, eyes half-lidded.
A small, almost lazy smile curved his mouth.
“Definitely better than the cake,” he murmured.
Souna’s cheeks were faintly flushed, but she didn’t look away.
Her voice came out quieter than usual, a little rougher.
“Don’t get cocky.”
He chuckled under his breath, the sound low and warm.
Instead of answering, he brushed another, softer kiss against the corner of her mouth, then the line of her jaw.
Souna’s eyes fluttered shut for a second.
The earlier spark she’d felt while watching him eat had grown into something steadier, hotter, settling low in her stomach.
Ren’s lips trailed lightly along her jaw until they reached the sensitive spot just below her ear.
One of his hands slid a little higher along her side, thumb brushing the edge of her ribs through her clothes.
Souna’s fingers tightened in his shirt.
They didn’t stay in the cafeteria for long.
The quiet of the empty school had become something electric between them.
With no one to interrupt, the careful distance they’d always kept simply dissolved.
Hand in hand, they drifted from one place to the next, kissing whenever the mood struck which was often.
On the courtyard bench beneath the old cherry tree, Ren pulled her into his lap.
The afternoon sun filtered through the leaves, casting shifting patterns across their faces as they made out slowly, thoroughly.
Souna’s fingers threaded through his hair while his hands rested possessively on her hips.
Every soft sound she made against his mouth only pulled him deeper, or something idk.
In their classroom they ended up against the teacher’s desk.
Chalk dust still lingered in the air from earlier.
Ren lifted her onto the edge of the desk and kissed her like he had all the time in the world deep, unhurried, tasting the last traces of strawberry cake on her tongue.
Her legs framed his hips.
Neither of them rushed.
They eventually found their way to the chess club room.
A half-finished game still sat on one of the boards.
Souna challenged him with a raised eyebrow.
They played a short, intense match, the pieces moving between stolen kisses and lingering looks.
He won, of course.
This time Souna didn’t seem particularly bothered by the loss; she was too busy caressing his well toned chest.
Afterward they climbed to the rooftop.
The wind was gentle up there, carrying the distant sounds of the city.
They sat side by side against the chain-link fence at first, talking in low voices, until talking became unnecessary.
Ren leaned in again.
This time the kiss was slower, heavier.
When they finally pulled apart, both of them were breathing harder, eyes darker.
By the time they returned to the chess club room, the light outside had begun to soften into late afternoon.
The door clicked shut behind them.
For a moment they just looked at each other.
Then Souna stepped forward, closing the distance herself.
What followed was unhurried and thorough.
Clothes were shed piece by piece between long, deep kisses.
They ended up on the long couch at the back of the room, the soft leather cool against bare skin.
Ren took his time mapping every sensitive place he could find her neck, the curve of her waist, the insides of her thighs while Souna’s hands explored him just as carefully.
When he finally pushed into her, both of them went still for a second, forehead to forehead, breathing the same air.
Then she rolled her hips, and the quiet of the empty school was broken only by soft gasps and the low, broken sounds they pulled from each other.
They moved together slowly at first, then with growing urgency.
Souna’s nails dragged lightly down his back.
Ren’s mouth found her throat, her collarbone, the soft underside of her breast.
When she came, it was with a quiet, shuddering breath against his shoulder.
He followed soon after, buried deep, holding her tightly as the tension finally broke.
Afterward they stayed tangled together on the couch, skin still warm, the room filled with the quiet sound of their slowing breaths.
The last of the daylight filtered through the windows in soft gold.
Neither of them felt the need to speak for a long while.
Eventually Souna shifted just enough to look at him properly.
Her voice was soft, almost thoughtful.
“What does this make us?”
Ren was quiet for a moment, one hand still idly stroking along her bare back.
Then a small, crooked smile tugged at his mouth.
“Chess mates?” he said.
“You get it.
Because checkmate.
Man, I’m smart.”
Souna let out a genuine giggle, the sound light and unguarded.
She poked his chest.
“Well then, as chess mates… we should go play chess after this in the city.
Call it a chess club outing.”
Ren’s smile widened.
He leaned in and pressed a lazy kiss to her forehead.
“I’m up for that.”
