They left the school together just as the last of the daylight began to fade.
The “chess club outing” turned into something that felt suspiciously like a proper date.
They walked side by side through the quiet evening streets, fingers occasionally brushing, neither of them quite ready to let go of the warmth they’d found earlier.
At a small, tucked-away restaurant a few blocks from the school, they shared a late meal simple pasta for him, a carefully chosen salad and light soup for her.
Conversation came easily now.
Soft laughter.
Quiet glances across the table.
When the meal was finished, Ren walked her home.
Her house stood on the very next street over from the school, close enough that the upper windows of the academy were still visible if you tilted your head just right.
The building itself was impossible to ignore tall, elegant, the kind of private residence that spoke of old money and quiet power.
Soft lights glowed behind heavy curtains.
The gate alone looked like it cost more than most people’s cars.
Something about the place scraped against Ren’s nerves.
A sharp, irrational irritation rose in his chest the longer he stood there looking at it.
He couldn’t name the reason.
He only knew it bothered him.
He was still staring at the front of the house when the sensation hit.
A sudden, sharp spike of demonic energy cut through the middle of the city like a blade.
Ren’s head snapped toward the direction it came from, every instinct going tight and alert.
“I need to go,” he said, already turning.
Souna blinked, caught off guard by the abrupt shift.
“Ren—?”
But he was already moving, footsteps quick and purposeful as he strode away down the street without looking back.
She stood there on the sidewalk for a moment longer, watching his figure disappear between the streetlights.
A small frown pulled at her brows.
“I’ll never understand guys,” she muttered under her breath.
Then she turned, pushed open the gate, and stepped inside the luxurious house alone.
The second he reached the end of the street, he disappeared.
A faint burst of blue light flashed through the darkness as he used Hirenkyaku, his body shooting upward at incredible speed before coming to a complete stop high above the city.
He hovered effortlessly in the night sky, the cool wind blowing through his black hair as his glowing eyes scanned the streets below.
After a few seconds, he spotted something.
A brightly lit building stood several streets away, surrounded by parked cars and flashing neon lights.
From the outside, it looked like some kind of hotel or nightclub.
But the demonic energy coming from it told him otherwise.
Ren narrowed his eyes.
‘Uggh…
stray devil brothel.
I’ve seen it all.’
He sighed before simply turning his body downward.
Then he fell, the wind rushed past him as he dropped like a meteor, only slowing himself down moments before reaching the ground.
BOOM.
Ren landed in the back alley behind the building, his shoes barely making a sound against the pavement.
A large man stood beside the back entrance, apparently acting as a guard.
Ren looked at him for a second.
Human.
‘Not killing him then.’
Before the guard could even blink, Ren casually tapped two fingers against his forehead. The man’s eyes rolled backward.
His body went limp and collapsed against the wall before sliding down to the ground.
“Sleep tight.”
Ren walked over him and opened the door.
The moment it opened, loud music immediately filled his ears.
Bass-heavy rave music echoed throughout the building, vibrating through the walls as colored lights flashed further down the hallway.
Ren raised an eyebrow.
“Celvin Harris?.” He nodded slightly.
He casually walked through the halls.
The deeper he went, the louder everything became.
Most of the people inside were ordinary humans.
Through some of the doors, he could hear people moaning.
Men and women.
Ren glanced toward one of the closed rooms.
“Dude’s getting his soul sucked.”
He chuckled to himself before continuing.
Eventually, he reached the main area of the establishment.
Smoke hung heavily in the air while various substances were being passed around openly.
Loud music shook the floor, and women dressed in revealing club outfits moved between tables looking for customers.
The entire place was chaotic.
Yet Ren barely looked at anyone.
None of them were Devils.
They were just humans caught up in whatever kind of nightlife this place offered.
His attention was focused elsewhere.
Ren stopped walking.
His eyes shifted slightly.
He could feel it.
Demonic energy.
It was faint from up here, but the further he focused on it, the clearer it became.
It was coming from below.
‘Found you.’
Ren turned toward the nearby stairway.
He casually walked over.
Of course…
He didn’t even make it halfway down.
Two men wearing black suits suddenly stepped into his path.
Their appearances looked human enough, but the demonic energy coming from their bodies made their identities obvious.
Stray Devils.
“Hey.” One of them raised his hand.
“No one’s allowed below.
Beat it.”
The second man stepped forward.
“You heard him.”
Ren stopped, he looked at them then at the stairs.
Two flashes of blue crossed the darkness.
The heads of both Stray Devils suddenly separated from their bodies.
Blood sprayed upward as their bodies collapsed heavily onto the stairs.
Ren stood completely still.
His blue saber rested casually in his hand.
Dark energy began crawling across his face, forming a strange mask-like pattern covered with multiple glowing eyes.
The atmosphere instantly changed.
The people nearby finally realized something was very wrong.
A girl screamed.
“WHAT THE FUCK?!”
The music continued playing for another few seconds before someone finally rushed toward the controls.
“YO, LET’S GO!”
“I DIDN’T EVEN PAY—FREE PUSSY!”
Another guy looked down before suddenly panicking.
“Yo, your dick is out!”
“Fuck it, I’m out!”

The room instantly descended into chaos.
People rushed toward the exits, knocking over chairs and tables as everyone suddenly tried to escape.
Ren simply stood at the top of the stairs, saber in hand, watching the panic unfold.
He hadn’t even reached the real problem yet.
Ren walked down the stairs, the demonic energy becoming heavier with every step.
The further he descended, the more obvious the presence became.
The air itself felt thicker, almost suffocating, while the sounds from the upper floors slowly faded behind him.
Eventually, he reached the bottom.
In front of him stood two large metal doors.
Ren stared at them for a moment.
Then he sighed.
With a simple kick, the doors were sent flying off their hinges and crashing across the room.
BANG!
Inside, multiple Stray Devils were scattered throughout the large room, hunched over the remains of deceased humans and feeding without a care in the world.
Blood covered the floor.
Blood covered the walls.
Some of the Devils didn’t even bother looking up when the doors were destroyed.
Ren’s expression slowly darkened.
The sight disgusted him.
He had seen plenty of horrible things since arriving in this world, but there was something about watching creatures casually feast on innocent people that genuinely pissed him off.
He tightened his grip around his blue saber.
“I’ve always wanted to be like Blade.
Guess tonight’s the night.”
One of the Stray Devils moved first.
Its eyes widened.
Then it lunged.
Its face grotesquely expanded as its jaw stretched open, revealing rows of massive, jagged teeth.
And somehow…The worst part wasn’t even its monstrous face.
The thing was completely naked.
Ren stared at it for half a second.
“…Bro.”
He didn’t even bother looking anymore.
His saber moved.
SHING!
The blade sliced cleanly through the Devil’s body from head to waist.
The creature was cut perfectly in half before Ren casually stepped to the side.
SPLAT!
Both halves crashed against the wall behind him, leaving a fresh mess of blood across the concrete.
Ren glanced at the remains.
“Disgusting.”
He turned his attention toward the rest of the room.
Dozens of glowing eyes slowly turned toward him.
Some snarled.
Others stood up from their meals.
A few began transforming, their bodies twisting into increasingly grotesque shapes as demonic energy surged throughout the room.
Ren simply raised his saber.
“Alright.” A faint grin appeared beneath the mask.
‘ I’m going to enjoy this’ he thought.
