When breaktime finally arrived, Ren had already started walking toward the Occult Research Club room.

He could already picture Rias and the others lounging around, Akeno teasing him, Koneko quietly eating sweets in the corner.

That plan died the moment he stepped into the hallway.Full novel: The Almighty. — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Souna was already waiting, arms crossed, expression unreadable.

Tsubaki stood just half a step behind her, silent and composed as always.

The moment their eyes met his, both girls moved.

They didn’t ask.

They simply closed in, each taking one of his arms, and steered him firmly in the opposite direction.

He didn’t resist.

Sometimes a guy just wanted a pair of dominant women who knew exactly what they wanted and didn’t bother pretending otherwise.

They pulled him into the library, past the rows of tall shelves, and into one of the quieter study alcoves near the back.

Without a word, they guided him down into a chair.

Souna remained standing in front of him.

Tsubaki stayed slightly to the side, watching.

Souna’s voice was calm, but there was an edge underneath it.

“I heard you came with Rias today.

Don’t tell me you’ve chosen her over me.”

Ren leaned back in the chair, one corner of his mouth curling up.

“I haven’t really chosen,” he said.

“Even if I did… would it really matter?”

The teasing smirk only made the temperature drop further.

Both girls stared at him in silence, expressions cold and assessing.

Then, almost at the same time, they glanced at each other.

A brief, wordless exchange passed between them.

Souna gave the smallest of nods.

Tsubaki answered with the faintest tilt of her head.

‘ Are they seriously speaking telepathically right in front of me?’ Ren thought, amused.

‘ Crazy.’

Souna turned her attention back to him.

“We’ll talk again,” she said.

“You better be free tomorrow.”

She didn’t wait for an answer.

She simply turned and began walking away, heels clicking softly against the library floor.

Tsubaki lingered.

She stepped closer, leaned down, and gently caught his chin between two fingers, tilting his face upward so their eyes met.

Her expression remained cool, but her voice dropped into something quieter, more intimate.

“Keep those lips juicy for me.”

Then she released him, straightened, and followed after her King without another word.

Ren stayed seated, still grinning to himself as the two of them disappeared between the shelves.

“Dad would be proud,” he muttered under his breath.

It wasn’t exactly a secret how this arrangement had started.

Last year, during what was supposed to be a simple date with Souna, Tsubaki had shown up uninvited and somehow ended up as the third wheel.

Near the end of the night she had taken the initiative herself, leaning in and kissing him without warning.

Ren hadn’t pushed her away.

She’d pulled Tsubaki off him by the shoulder and claimed his mouth herself, harder and more possessive.

From that moment on, the line between “Souna’s boyfriend” and “shared” had blurred permanently.

Neither girl had ever officially claimed exclusive rights.

Neither had ever asked him to choose.

And Ren, for his part, had never been foolish enough to force the issue.

Ren got up from his chair and casually left the library, making his way back toward the main hallway.

The moment he reached the stairs, he spotted Rias and Akeno waiting for him there, both of them standing with their arms crossed and wearing identical frowns.

Ren immediately knew what this was about.

“Okay, I’ll take you both on dates this weekend to make up for it,” he offered, already knowing exactly how to solve the problem.

The change was instant.

Rias’s frown disappeared as she smiled pleasantly, while Akeno’s expression softened into her usual teasing smile.

“Well then,” Rias said, pretending to think about it.

“If you insist.”

Akeno giggled softly beside her.

“Yes, if Ren-kun insists, who are we to refuse?”

Ren stared at the two of them for a moment.

‘They never change.’

He sighed before walking past them.

“Alright, let’s go before break ends.” The two girls quickly followed, both looking considerably happier than they had a few moments ago.

When school finally ended, Ren made his way toward the ORC and decided to hang out with Rias and her peerage for a while.

Everyone was sitting around casually, with some talking while others simply relaxed, enjoying the quiet afternoon after another long day of school.

Ren leaned back comfortably before looking toward Rias.

“Seriously though, why were you stalking me again?

You never really explained that to me.”

The entire room immediately went silent.

Rias froze for half a second, her teacup stopping just before reaching her lips.

Akeno looked away while Kiba suddenly became very interested in whatever was outside the window, and Koneko continued eating as if nothing had happened.

Rias eventually let out an awkward laugh before taking a small sip of her tea.

“Well, umm…

We heard you were interested in the Occult.

So we decided to scout you.”

Ren raised an eyebrow.

“Did you hear that from Souna?”

“Yes!

Definitely!” Rias answered far too quickly.

“Souna told me you liked that kind of stuff, so I decided to scout you.

Makes perfect sense.”

Her smile looked slightly forced.

Ren simply stared at her for a few seconds before chuckling.

He knew damn well she was lying through her teeth, but he wasn’t interested in putting her on the spot.

“Yeah,” he said casually.

“Makes perfect sense.”

Rias visibly relaxed while Akeno quietly covered her mouth to hide a laugh.

The afternoon eventually passed, and by the time Ren finally left the ORC, the sun was already beginning to disappear beyond the horizon.

With nobody waiting for him at home, Ren was never really in much of a rush anymore.

His parents were still away on vacation, leaving him with an unusually large amount of freedom.

As he walked through his neighborhood, something suddenly caught his attention.

A small black cat was approaching him from the sidewalk.

Ren stopped.

The cat looked completely ordinary at first glance, with smooth black fur and bright eyes.

But Ren could immediately sense the supernatural energy hidden beneath its disguise.

He crouched down and picked it up without hesitation, lifting the cat until they were face to face.

The cat stared at him.

Ren stared back.

“Nice disguise.”

The cat’s ears twitched.

Ren gave it a small smirk before lowering it back onto the ground.

“See ya.”

He simply turned around and continued walking toward his house.

The black cat remained standing there for several seconds, seemingly confused by his reaction.

Then it quietly followed him.

Ren noticed immediately.

He didn’t bother stopping it.

‘Guess she wants to follow me.’

He continued walking as though nothing had happened.

When Ren eventually arrived home, the old lady next door had already left some dinner for him.

He thanked her earlier for always checking on him before heading upstairs to take a long, relaxing bath.

Afterward, he changed into comfortable clothes and headed downstairs.

The house was quiet, but that didn’t last long.

Music suddenly blasted from the speakers, echoing throughout the entire house as Ren sat comfortably in the living room with his Xbox controller in hand.

For the next few hours, the supernatural world could wait.

Ren was busy gaming.

Outside the house, however, the black cat remained nearby.

Ren could still sense her presence through the walls.

‘Guess she’ll attack at night.’

He didn’t sound worried in the slightest.

If anything, he seemed more curious about what she was planning.

The clock eventually struck ten.

Ren finally turned off the Xbox and stretched before heading upstairs toward his bedroom.

He changed, climbed into bed, and pulled the blanket over himself.

Outside, the black cat remained somewhere nearby.

Ren closed his eyes.

He already knew she was coming.

He simply didn’t care.

With that thought,.

Ren slowly drifted off to sleep.
