Rebecca’s POV
Instead of answering, Enzo’s face hardened into that of pure panic.
He looked at my flushed, tear-stained face, then down at my lips.
The tension between us was so thick it was suffocating.
With a dark growl, he ripped his hands away from mine, grabbing the collar of my maid uniform.
He didn’t answer me.
Instead, he hauled me off the bed by my waist and dragged me straight into his large master bathroom.
”Enzo, let me go!” I screamed, stumbling as he pulled me toward the massive walk-in shower.
He didn’t listen.
He yanked open the glass door, pulled me inside with him, and reached out, twisting the knob completely to the side.
A stream of freezing cold water blasted down on us.
I let out a loud, breathless gasp as the icy water hit my head, instantly soaking my hair and my clothes.
The heavy gray fabric of my dress immediately plastered to my skin.
Enzo stood right there under the spray with me, his jeans soaking through, the cold water streaming down his tattooed chest and back.
”Stop!
It’s cold!
Enzo, stop!” I cried out, shivering violently as the alcohol began to lose its grip on my brain, leaving me raw and shivering.
I lifted my fists and began to beat them against his chest, trying to push his massive weight away.
“Let me out!
Why are you doing this to me?!”
Enzo didn’t move an inch.
He stood there like a solid wall of stone under the freezing water, absorbing every single one of my weak punches.
Suddenly, his large arms wrapped around my waist, pulling my soaking wet body flush against his bare, burning chest.
”Calm down, Becca,” he murmured, his voice cracking as he held me tight against him under the icy deluge.
“Just breathe.
You need to sober up.”
”I hate you,” I sobbed into his shoulder, my fingers clutching tightly at his wet skin because, despite everything, my body still craved his warmth.
I was freezing, crying, and completely broken.
“God, I hate you so much.
Why won’t you just let me go?”
Enzo held me tighter, burying his face into the crook of my wet neck as the cold water poured over both of us.
The freezing water kept pouring down on us, but Enzo’s body felt like a blazing furnace against mine.
I trembled violently, my tears mixing with the icy drops sliding down my face.
My hands, which had been beating his chest just seconds ago, now gripped his wet shoulders for dear life.
I was trapped between hating him and needing him more than my next breath.
”Because I’m your Alpha, Becca.
And my duty is to protect you,” Enzo whispered into my neck, his voice so raw it sounded like it was being ripped from his chest.
“If I let you go, you’ll ruin yourself.
And I won’t allow that.”
”You already ruined me!” I screamed over the sound of the rushing water, pulling my head back so I could look at him.
The alcohol was mostly gone now, washed away by the icy shock, leaving behind a sharp, throbbing ache in my skull and a massive hole in my heart.
“You rejected me!
You treat me like dirt!
You make me watch you touch Clara, and then you scream that you’re saving my life?
What did you mean back there, Enzo?
What time is coming?!”
Enzo’s green eyes locked onto mine.
The gold of his wolf was gone, replaced by a deep, exhausting sadness that made him look completely human, completely broken.
His jaw ticked, his lips parting as if he wanted to yell the truth right into my face.
He wanted to tell me.
I could see the battle happening inside his mind.
But then, just like always, his walls snapped back into place.
The cold, unreadable Alpha mask returned.
”Nothing,” he said flatly, his voice turning into hard stone again.
“The alcohol is making you imagine things.”
”Don’t lie to me!” I pushed against him with all my might, but his heavy arms didn’t budge an inch.
“I heard you!
You said it’s killing you.
You said something about losing you!
Are you leaving this pack?
Is something happening to you?”
Enzo didn’t answer.
Instead, he reached past me and abruptly shut off the water.
The sudden silence in the bathroom was deafening.
The only sound left was our heavy breathing and the rhythmic drip, drip, drip of our soaked clothes hitting the tiled floor.
The freezing water had stopped, but the coldness radiating from Enzo was much worse.
He stepped back, letting his arms drop from my waist.
The sudden loss of his body heat made me shiver instantly.
”Go to bed, Rebecca,” he said, not looking at me as he ran a large, scarred hand through his wet hair, pushing it back from his forehead.
His soaked jeans clung heavily to his thighs.
“You’re sober enough to walk now.
Go back to your room.”
”No,” I spat, my voice shaking from the cold and the fury building up inside me.
I stood my ground on the wet tile, my soaked maid uniform dripping puddles around my shoes.
“I’m not going anywhere until you tell me what you meant.
You owe me that much.”
Enzo finally turned his eyes to me, and they were freezing cold.
“I don’t owe you anything.
I am your Alpha.
You will do as you are told.” He walked over to a rack, pulled down a large, fluffy white towel, and threw it at me.
It landed on my soaked shoulders.
“Dry yourself and get out of my sight.”
I clutched the towel tightly, my teeth chattering as I stared at the man I had loved since I was a little girl.
He was standing right in front of me, but he felt a million miles away.
Not wanting to humiliate myself anymore, I threw the towel at his face and stormed out of his room.
