Rebecca’s POV

I don’t even remember walking back to my tiny room in the servants’ quarters.

I just remember falling onto my small bed, still shivering, and crying myself to sleep.Full novel: The Alpha Daddy Between My Thighs — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Then, the darkness took over.

Suddenly, I was standing in the middle of a forest, and the air smelled like thick blood and ash.

I called out for Enzo, my voice echoing through the trees, but no one answered.

When I walked further, the trees cleared into an open space.

There, lying flat on the cold, bloody grass, was a massive body.

My breath caught in my throat.

I ran forward, dropping to my knees in the dirt.

It was Enzo.

His beautiful, tattooed chest wasn’t moving.

His green eyes were open, but they were completely blank and lifeless, staring up at the dark sky.

No matter how hard I shook his broad shoulders, no matter how much I screamed his name, he wouldn’t wake up.

He was gone.

”Enzo!”

I sat up in bed with a loud gasp, my chest heaving as I choked on a sob.

My heart was pounding so hard against my ribs I thought it would burst.

I was covered in cold sweat, the terror of the nightmare suffocating me.

Without thinking, without a single care about my pride, the argument, or the fact that it was the middle of the night, I threw off my blanket.

I didn’t care that I was only wearing a thin, oversized sleeping shirt.

I unlocked my door and ran out into the cool night air, sprinting across the grounds toward the main mansion.

The night guards standing at the grand entrance saw me running toward them, my eyes wild and tears streaming down my face.

Because I was the former Alpha’s daughter, they didn’t raise their weapons.

They just assumed I was rushing inside because my father, Sir Morriston, had taken a turn for the worse.

I ignored them completely, bursting through the doors and running up the grand staircase.

When I reached the heavy double doors of Enzo’s master bedroom, my hands were shaking violently.

Knowing his old habit—that he never locked his doors because his wolf feared nothing—I grabbed the brass handle and pushed.

The door swung open smoothly.

The room was dark, lit only by the faint glow of the moon coming through the large windows.

Enzo was sitting on the edge of his bed, completely shirtless, holding a glass of whiskey in his large hand.

He looked tired, his broad shoulders slumped slightly in the shadows.

The moment the door opened, his head snapped up, his green eyes locking onto me in total shock.

”Rebecca?” he breathed, his voice rough.

“What’s wrong?

Is it your father?”

I couldn’t even speak.

The sight of his chest rising and falling with breath, the solid proof that he was alive, made my knees buckle.

I crossed the room in a desperate blur, throwing myself at him.

I fell right between his thick thighs, wrapping my arms tightly around his neck and burying my face into his warm shoulder.

I sobbed loudly, my entire body shaking against his.

”You’re alive,” I choked out, my fingers digging desperately into his wet hair and his tattooed skin, holding him so tight it hurt.

“You’re alive.

Oh my god, Enzo…

you’re alive.”

Enzo froze instantly, his body turning into hard stone beneath me.

He held his breath, his hands hovering in the air for a split second as if he were trying to force himself to push me away.

But the sound of my broken, terrified crying was too much for him to handle.

He dropped his whiskey glass onto the thick rug, and his massive arms came wrapping around my waist, lifting me completely up onto his lap.

He pulled me so flush against his bare chest I could feel the rapid, heavy thudding of his heart right against my own.

”I’m here, Becca,” he growled softly, his deep voice vibrating against my skin, sending a wave of electric heat straight to my core.

His large hands rubbed up and down my back, trying to soothe my shaking frame.

“I’m right here.

Breathe for me, sweetheart.

Tell me what happened.”

”I saw you die,” I cried, lifting my head from his shoulder to look at him through my blurry, tear-filled eyes.

“There was so much blood, and you wouldn’t wake up…

I don’t care if you hate me.

I don’t care if you want Clara.

Just please…

don’t die.

Don’t leave me.”

Enzo stared up at me, his green eyes suddenly melting into that dark, heavy, dominant gold.

The vulnerability in my voice completely destroyed the last bit of his sanity.

He looked at my trembling lips, his grip on my waist tightening until it was almost bruising.

”Fuck it,” he choked out, his voice raw with years of buried hunger.

He didn’t waste another second.

He leaned up, his massive hand flying to the back of my neck, tilting my head back as he slammed his lips directly onto mine.

The kiss was loud, rough, and filled with desperate, possessive fury.

It wasn’t gentle.

He tasted like expensive whiskey and hot mint, his tongue immediately forcing its way into my mouth, claiming me with a wild hunger that made my head spin.

A loud, shameless moan ripped from my throat as I melted entirely into his touch, my hands tangling in his dark hair, pulling him closer, begging for the heat I had been craving for years.

He pulled back just an inch, his lips brushing against mine as he took a ragged breath.

“Now…

does that prove to you that I’m alive?”

I swallowed hard, the dark, bloody images of my dream still replaying vividly in my head.

The terror hadn’t completely left me.

I looked deep into his green eyes, my voice barely a whisper.

“Enzo…

is our pack going to war?”

I knew of no upcoming battles, but what if that was what my dream was trying to warn me about?

What if a war was coming to destroy us?

He shook his head slowly, his large hand gently cupping the back of my neck.

“No, baby girl,” he murmured, his voice deep and soothing.

“If we were going to war, you would have known about it.

There is no war.”

Hearing him call me “baby girl” in that soft, protective tone did something to my soul.

God, I missed him so much.

Desperate to be even closer to his warmth, I slid myself up and straddled his thick thighs, locking my legs tightly around his sides.

I wrapped my arms completely around his broad shoulders, looking down at him.

”Enzo…

can you do me a favor?” I asked softly.

He raised an eyebrow, his grip on my waist remaining tight.

“What is it?”

”Promise me you’ll do it first,” I begged.

He let out a low rumble in his chest, his eyes narrowing slightly.

“No.

I won’t promise anything without knowing what it is.”

I pouted, my chest pressing against his bare skin.

“Enzo, I’m your wife, remember?

You’re supposed to listen to me.”

His face darkened instantly, a deep frown carving into his handsome forehead.

“You are not my wife, Rebecca.

You deceived me.”

My heart flinched at his harsh words.

I frowned back, the stinging pain of rejection hitting me all over again.

“Is it really that bad to be married to me?

Do you hate the thought of me being yours that much?”

I felt too hurt to stay there.

I immediately tried to untangle my legs and slide off his lap, but the moment he saw the sharp pain in my eyes, his fingers dug firmly into my waist, pinning me in place.

He wouldn’t let me leave.

This man didn’t even know how to hide his concern for me, even when he was trying to be cold.

”What do you want, Becca?” he asked, his voice rough and defeated.
