“Selena I need you to run…”
I can still feel the chilling touch of my mother’s bloodied palm pressed against my cheek, my tears mingling as she forced a smile that never got to her eyes.
“No mother I can’t leave you… Let’s go together…” I was stubborn, we had running through an underground secret passage leading outside our pack house.
Behind her the walls were getting hotter, the flames from the burning pack house heating our pack, but those wolves from the northern packs were something else, going through the flames to make sure no one escaped.
“I’ll be right behind you!” She said to me even as she was barely standing on the leg that had large bite marks dripping blood, standing was in off of a challenge for that leg and walking was worst.
I knew she wouldn’t be able to make it with me, at least now I did was back then I was just a child clinging to her only family and not wanting to let them go as well.
“You’re lying… you’re lying to me…”I said desperation clinging to my voice just as fiercely as I was clinging to her as well.
Her eyes moistened with tears too.
“I’m not..”
I interrupted her before she could finish.
“Yes you are….”
She-hugged me, hard enough that I felt like my ribs were being crushed then she looked at me for the longest time taking in the last moments that she would see her daughter before she pushed me forward and collapsed on the ground I was hearing the echo of voices coming from within the passage further down where it bent, by the time they reached that corner they would find both of us.
I gave my mother one last look, she was still forcing a smile for me.
At this point the tears made my vision blurry, by the time is cleared I was out of the passage washing the ashes of my Park fallout on my feet finding it hard to breathe from the smoke that invaded the air.
After that it was only so long that a 12 year old could have survived by herself, I was captured and sold into the slave market but nobody knew who I was…

But Ian’s brother had found out.

He also looks like the kind of person that wouldn’t quit unless he got what he wanted.

I closed my eyes and forced myself to sleep instead of thinking about it deciding that my mind would be clearer in the morning.
Then I couldn’t even wait until it was fully dawn, when the sun was still rising from sleep and the world was yet to come alive.
But I liked the silence It made it easier for me to hear my own thoughts.
I found my way back into the Ian’s private woods, I know that regular people,especially us from the southern packs would not be welcome here but I was being careful to make sure that I was not caught.
I kept full when the trail until I came to a lake, it looked like melted crystals slowly absorbing the rising the sun.
Slowly I sat on the grass surrounding it, watching the stillness of the water as if it would whisper the perfect answer to me.
“You can’t betray our mate…”razor said.
I looked towards the lake.
“He doesn’t want to be our mate Razor, he has rejected us over and over again…”
Razor seemed bamboozled by my response.
“How could you say that? You know why he keeps rejecting us it’s not his own choice it’s the circumstances… And his brother… You can tell he’s clearly not someone to be trusted.”
“We’re working on trust… But rather mutual interest,” I said frankly.
Razor was still not wrapping her head around what I was saying and kept growling In disapproval.
“He’s our mate,” she said it like it fixed everything like he wasn’t going to toss us away.
“If I don’t help his brother then I will be taken back to the south, we will never see each other again and if his brother succeeds without me what we have left will be utterly destroyed…”
“Then maybe you can report his brother’s plans to him tell him everything that he’s trying to do then he will definitely trust you more…”
I thought about that idea from razor for a millisecond before standing up and dusting of the sand from the back of my dress.
“No… In the end it would be my word against his. Who do you think everybody is going to be willing to believe?”
“He cares about you.. there has to be another way of it in this, it’s wrong….”
I loved a little bit to myself when razor said that, wrong?
I didn’t have the privilege of sticking to my morals if I wanted it to revive the southern packs.

“Selena?”
My chest instantly became light just hearing that voice call my name, a smile had snow cup on my face and I quickly wiped it turning around with a neutral expression.
“Ian…”
His eyes scanned through me.
“What happened?” He was already approaching me sounding all worried.
Ugh, why couldn’t he just be an a****** like his brother?
Then I wouldn’t have any conflictions about what I needed to do.
He reached me, hand finding my cheek like she had any right to console me.
These were the hands that had killed hundreds of my people without hesitation.
He had no right to offer me consolation.
Is tenderness could bring to ashes for all I care.
But maybe…
Maybe I could use this to my advantage.
I leaned into his palm.
“I’ll accept your rejection and go quietly to the North…”
His eyes widened and before he could say anything I spoke first.
“But…I have a condition…”
