Griffin feels it too.

Our mate…she’s pulling away from us.Full novel: The Alpha’s Scarlet Slave — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

And yet she’s acting as though she wants to be closer.

That day when it was barely dawn just after I sent her away, we saw each other in my private woods then she had made one request.

“I want to share my meals with you,” she said.

We were 4 days away from the end of the week, it seemed like such a bizarre ask especially considering what she wanted before for how to so quietly concede to something so simple since around there was going in my head.

Part of me thought -and maybe hoped a little- that she wanted to be intimate with me before she left.

However we’ve had two days so far of meeting at breakfast, lunch and supper.

I expected her to pull a move during any of those times but she didn’t not once.

She would come and share the meals with me just as she had requested as both of us engaged in surface level conversation that feels like we were talking a lot and yet not at all at the same time.

Before she had felt raw and real with me.

Yet now it felt like I was dining with another woman, someone who was wearing the mask of my mate.

This was how she meant to punish me, right?

It was working.

Oh by the moon goddess I felt like I would be lying if I said it didn’t affect me.

And I knew how selfish it was.

I don’t just know what’s wrong with me.

Life was either black or white before I met her.

But she was blurring everything creating gray areas where they should be none.

The third day came and I went to have breakfast at the annex just like how I had done all the other days.

“I cooked today myself… ” She said sounding very proud and she presented the fluffiest pancakes I had ever seen dripping with syrup and a side of strawberries added to the meal. Find the original chapter at g.com.

“It’s nice…”

“Take a bite first before you say that…” She said cutting a piece of the pancake and holding it out to me on a fork.

Something reached my nostrils, “… This pancake smells.. strange…”

Maybe I phrased it wrong but her entire expression seemed to darken for a moment before suddenly becoming all bright and chipper again.

“Well I’m guessing that it would, we do thanks very differently in the south,” she said still holding the fork.

“Our mate is offering to feed us…” Griffin yelled at me recently he had become nothing more than a big ball of frustration, he was still completely convinced that we shouldn’t send our mate away.

But my decision was not only for the benefits of my plants but for her as well.

She had no backing here in the North, if I was to even ignore all the odds to make her my Luna others who conveted the position for themselves would not set idly by and let it happen.

The following she will be the center of several attacks, I could protect her but what if I happen to look away for a moment?

Even if I manage to protect her for the rest of happiness without feeling once was that really a life what living-one where she was constantly on eggshells?

She would never be happy and me watching her sofa will be even further away from happiness.

I thought about it for a moment then slowly I opened my mouth and in just a few seconds I was tasting the most delicious pancake I’ve ever had in my life.

“What do you think? It’s great right?”

“Yes ..”that was all I can say as I tried to take in the flavors.

She pulled the fork away and offered me another one.

“Here, eat more.”

She was being so sickeningly sweet.

To the point that it was suspicious.

“Have some of it yourself…” I said, she looked at the pancake carefully as if that was the first time that she has seen it.

“Will you have more if I eat it?” Get faster updates on g.com.

“Yes I don’t want to be the only one eating,”

She took what felt like a moment too long then finally ate the piece of pancake that she had offered to me.

“If that is not enough we can switch plates… If the one I offered it to you first,”

Some of her bubbliness had died down by the time she said that and I felt horrible.

It only got worse as she kept speaking saying exactly what I was thinking in my mind.

“… Isn’t that enough or should I taste randomly from both plates to make you believe that they are not poisoned?”

I felt so exposed in that moment and so incredibly foolish.

“Selena…”I began carefully knowing I’d hurt her.

“I’m sorry… It’s just that… I have a very coveted position, and I have been betrayed before by people I trusted.”

“But you don’t trust me…”she said setting down the fork, “… That’s why you’re sending me away right?”

“It’s more complicated than that-”

“But it’s part of the reason and-”

She looked down at her pancakes her smile barely staying on the southern we should lifted her head and the corners of her lips were meeting her ears.

The immediate flip of emotions was enough to raise an eyebrows suspicion beginning to flood me again, but we had such a little time left together, after today we only have one day left together.

By the day after tomorrow she’ll be gone from this annex and from my life, the first thing will do is have the entire place cleaned to it’s bone because if I got even a whiff of her scent after experiencing her absence I might go back on my words.

And I don’t want to be that kind of man.

But for now…while we’re together.

These moments that we still have together.

I want to make that last and mean something.

But why can’t I shake off this nagging feeling that she’s hiding something from me?
