The demon cores floating in the sky sparkled brightly, each one radiating its own light.

They looked like countless stars glittering across the heavens.

Yun Xingwan stood high in the sky and pointed a finger. The energy within tens of thousands of demon cores immediately streamed toward her mouth and nose like flowing water.Full novel: The Apocalypse Empress Returns and the Commanders Beloved Husband Kneels and Begs for Recognition — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Her parched body felt as though it had been immersed in a hot spring, making her let out a comfortable sigh.

As the energy continuously nourished her, the cracks in her skin slowly healed, while her dry white hair gradually regained a faint luster.

The changes were not obvious to the naked eye, but she alone could feel every subtle transformation taking place within her body.

Her eyes curved into a smile, and the corners of her lips unconsciously lifted.

A god!

On the city wall, the commander at the front line of the battle dropped to his knees, tears streaming down his face.

They were saved.

Base No. 9 was saved!

And this seemingly frail young woman was actually their guardian deity!

Meanwhile, Feng Changlan, who stood on top of the command building, had been so weak in the knees that he still had not managed to get back on his feet.

He stared at the woman standing upon empty air, fanaticism and admiration shining in his eyes.

He had made up his mind.

From now on, he would be honored to carry this divine lady’s shoes!

He seemed to have forgotten that he was not the only one willing to do that for Yun Xingwan.

The one at the very front of the line was none other than Shen Xingchen, who was sitting in the fighter jet.

Although he maintained a calm expression on the outside, only he knew about the storm raging inside him.

It was admiration, but it was also the burning desire to become stronger.

An SSS rank battle general was not the end.

“We won!”

After the silence, thunderous cheers erupted from everyone like mountains collapsing and seas surging.

As for the demon army, only some low level demon creatures that did not even possess demon cores remained, along with a tide of tens of thousands of zombies.

“Roar!”

Terrified cries echoed through the sky one after another.

“Run! There’s a woman who eats demons, and she only eats their brains!”

The tens of thousands of low level demon creatures fled in a crazed panic.

Yun Xingwan did not bother chasing them. Instead, she casually grabbed a four winged demon dragon.

“Roar! I’m stupid! My brain won’t taste good!”

The four winged demon dragon trembled violently with fear, tears of terror glistening in its blood red eyes.

“At least you know yourself. But your boss should taste pretty good. Go back and tell him to wash himself clean and wait for me. Tell him not to run around.”

“Roar… I understand!”

Yun Xingwan flicked a finger at the demon dragon.

The demon dragon shot into the distance like a meteor and disappeared beyond the horizon.

She turned around and walked toward the stone coffin, gently stroking its surface.

“Old friend, you should eat something too!”

The silent stone coffin swayed slightly.

“Clack, clack…”

The sound of stone scraping against stone rang out as the coffin slowly opened.

In an instant, a black vortex appeared above the stone coffin.

The corpses of all the demon creatures lying across the ground seemed to be drawn toward it by an irresistible force, surging madly into the coffin.

In less than ten minutes, every demon corpse covering the ground had been sucked inside.

“Don’t eat everything. Leave some for us. My parents are making dumplings tonight, and the little ones need something extra to eat too.”

The stone coffin shook twice in dissatisfaction.

“Fine, fine. I’ll catch more for you next time!”

Only then did the stone coffin contentedly close its lid and float quietly in midair.

Yun Xingwan stretched out her hand, and the chains flew into her palm.

“Clatter, clatter…”

The chains rattled as she stepped through the empty air and slowly made her way toward Base No. 9.

Three thousand strands of silver hair swayed behind her, while her body remained just as withered and frail as before.

Yet in the eyes of everyone watching, she appeared more magnificent and imposing than any mountain in this world.

Deep underground, inside the command center, Chief One subconsciously wiped the cold sweat from his forehead.

His body was still trembling.

Behind him stood row after row of perfectly aligned seats. Sitting in them were men dressed in black uniforms that combined the traditional Chinese tunic suit with Western style tailoring.

They were the highest ranking leaders of Huaguo.

Chief Two, seated at the far right, clasped his slightly trembling hands together and rubbed them repeatedly. He opened his mouth, swallowed hard, and finally spoke.

“Old Xi, with this kind of combat power, if nobody stops her, could she really kill her way all the way to the Demon God’s home in the Prison Sea and eat him?”

Chief One blinked his somewhat dry eyes and forcibly composed himself.

“Transmit the highest level secret order. All combat footage and data concerning Miss Yun are to be classified as SSS level top secret. No one is permitted to leak even the slightest piece of information.

“Especially the footage of her absorbing the demon cores!”

If footage like that were leaked, it would not only cause widespread panic, but would also attract the covetous attention of those across the ocean.

“And one more thing. Pass down the order and prepare a feast!”

In the underground command room of Base No. 9, Wang Defa froze when he received the message.

“Is it a celebration banquet?”

“Ahem, no. Energy. All the demon cores!”

“Chief, Miss Yun has already eaten all the demon cores at Base No. 9!”

Chief One was clearly stunned.

He quickly turned toward the people behind him and ordered, “Send all demon cores above level five from every base to Base No. 9!”

In the residential district of Base No. 9, Liu Chunhua was kneading dough while Yun Dequan rolled out dumpling wrappers.

The explosions and vibrations outside made the couple’s hearts pound with fear.

Liu Chunhua paused her hands.

“Old man, is there another beast tide outside?”

Yun Dequan frowned and stopped rolling the dumpling wrappers. He listened quietly for a moment.

“Sounds like it.”

“Ugh, those damn beasts really never stop causing trouble. I just hope the country can develop some powerful weapons and wipe them all out in one go!”

The smile on Yun Dequan’s face instantly disappeared, and he could not help cursing.

Liu Chunhua sighed along with him.

“I wonder when this apocalypse will finally end. If this keeps going, I’m worried the entire base will run out of food. We’ll be left with nothing but that awful nutritional liquid!”

“Who knows? Still, it’s fortunate that our daughter has come back. Once our son returns from the rehabilitation center, our whole family will finally be together again.”

“Ah, right. Do you think her job is dangerous? Could this beast tide affect her?”

“Knock, knock!”

Yun Dequan was just about to speak when someone knocked on the tightly closed door.

“Who is it?”

“Uncle Yun, Auntie Liu, it’s me!”

A man’s deep voice came from outside.

Yun Dequan hurriedly put down his rolling pin and carefully brushed the flour from his palms onto the cutting board.

Only then did he walk over and open the door.

“Jinzhang, aren’t you fighting demons today? How come you have time to visit?”

“Half a month ago, I went on a mission and got injured. I spent half a month recovering at the rehabilitation hospital, and I only just came back. My father told me that Xingwan had returned?”

“Mm, Xingwan only came back yesterday.”

Yun Dequan’s wrinkled face carried a smile, but there was a hint of reluctance hidden beneath it.

He knew at least some of what had happened, and he felt that his daughter had been treated unfairly.

His daughter and Zhao Jinzhang had known each other since they were little, ever since kindergarten. They later went through elementary school, middle school, and high school together, never once being separated.

Their university majors were different, so they were not in the same class, but that did not affect their relationship.

The two families had already known each other for years. After discussing it among themselves, they arranged their engagement during their senior year of university, planning for the two of them to get married after graduation.

Who could have expected Zhao Jinzhang to do something that betrayed his daughter?

She had gone traveling to clear her mind, only to meet with an accident.

Now that his daughter had returned, Yun Dequan actually did not want her to step back into that pit of fire.

But his daughter’s attitude that morning…

“Uncle, I came here today because there’s something I want to discuss with you.”

Yun Dequan was still thinking about how unfairly his daughter had been treated when Zhao Jinzhang’s words interrupted his thoughts.

Zhao Jinzhang placed the cloth bag he was carrying on the table.

“I came today to break off my engagement with Xingwan. This is one kilogram of white rice. Consider it my compensation.”
