Chaрtеr 17: Тhе Grаss Is Taken
Night fеll, thе moon hung high, аnd the citу lights bеgаn tо glоw.
Аt MJ Ваr, thе lights fliсkered аmbiguously, alternаting bеtweеn brightnеss аnd shаdоw, crеаting а scenе оf vibrant indulgеnce and dеcаdent revelrу.
Thе scеnts оf alcоhol, perfumе, аnd niсоtine mingled in thе аir. In thе сenter оf the dаnce flоor, men аnd women mоved to the rhуthm оf thе intensе musiс.
Inside the privаte rооm, Cheng Ziуan loоked аt thе mаn on thе sofa аhead. “Whаt’s gоttеn into you today, taking the initiаtivе to come tо а bar?”
Baсk whеn he had just broken up with Yin En Yu, he was like this too—constantly calling them out for drinks every other day.
They would never leave before one or two in the morning.
He Yu Zhou lounged lazily on the sofa, the top two buttons of his shirt undone. The dim lighting cast a shadow over him, making his expression inscrutable.
His slender fingers held a glass of brandy, ice cubes gently swirling in the dark brown liquid. The clinking sound was drowned out by the passionate music.
He Yu Zhou lifted his eyelids slightly. “If you don’t want to drink, leave.”
Not once had he ever refused to come.
“Do I look like someone who passes up a free drink?” Cheng Ziyan opened another bottle of whiskey. “Tonight, we drink until we drop.”
“If you get drunk, no one’s taking care of you,” Lu Jun flicked the ash from his cigarette, giving him a warning.
His drinking manners were terrible.
“No loyalty,” Cheng Ziyan shifted the topic back to He Yu Zhou. “When exactly have you decided on the date to treat En Yu to dinner?”
“Why are you in such a hurry? Anyone would think she was your ex-girlfriend,” He Yu Zhou stretched his long legs.
“If she were really my ex, I’d avoid her, unlike you…”
Cheng Ziyan’s words were cut off by a commotion at the door.
The private room door was pushed open from the outside, and a girl dressed in revealing clothes walked in. Before she even got close, a strong, pungent perfume scent hit them.
Once the girl got a clear look at the people sitting on the sofa, she immediately zeroed in on her target, her eyes glued to He Yu Zhou.
She flipped her hair, swayed her hips as she walked over, and spoke in a high-pitched, coquettish voice, “Handsome, I’m from the next room. We’re playing a truth-or-dare game—can I get your contact info?”
As she spoke, she pretended to casually pull down her collar, trying to brush against He Yu Zhou’s arm.
However, before she could get close, He Yu Zhou swiftly moved to another sofa as if avoiding the plague.
The speed was so quick it seemed as though she carried a virus.
Cheng Ziyan and Lu Jun, sitting nearby, occasionally clinked glasses and drank, putting on a show of watching the spectacle.
Even in a private room, someone still came to hit on him—his luck with women really wasn’t shallow.
The girl waited for two seconds, but seeing that He Yu Zhou acted as if he hadn’t heard her, she called out again, “Handsome.”
She calculated in her mind: if she could get his WeChat, she would definitely pursue him.
This man was exceptionally handsome, and he clearly had money—she glanced out of the corner of her eye at the Pagani car key on the table.
If he became her boyfriend, her friends would be green with envy.
Just as she was about to approach him again, He Yu Zhou didn’t even lift his eyelids, his tone cold. “Get lost.”
From start to finish, his gaze never once fell on her. Except when facing Yin En Yu, he had no concept of being gentle or considerate toward women.
He Yu Zhou set down his glass and picked up his phone from the table. The ring on his middle finger gleamed brilliantly under the dim light, impossible to ignore. The photo faintly visible behind the phone case and the ring on his middle finger both caught the eye of the girl who had approached him.
With these two items present, He Yu Zhou didn’t need to say a word to make it clear that he was already taken, effectively discouraging the girl who had come to flirt with him.
Seeing this, the girl beside him immediately replaced her deliberately pitiful expression with one of disbelief—he actually had a girlfriend.
Why couldn’t such a high-quality man be hers?
Seeing He Yu Zhou’s cold expression and his overwhelmingly intimidating presence, she didn’t dare approach him again. She had a feeling that if she got any closer, he might lose his temper and drive her away at any moment.
But she wasn’t ready to give up just yet.
So, she turned to Cheng Ziyan and Lu Jun. “Handsome guys, can I add your WeChat?”
The dare was real, but now she was acting more out of self-interest, hoping to gain something for herself.
The two spectators: “…”
Were they involved in this too?
Cheng Ziyan laughed in disbelief. “Beauty, asking for our WeChat right in front of us as your backup plan—do you really think we’d give it to you?”
And she wanted both of their WeChats at once—her appetite was truly something else.
“Still not leaving?” Lu Jun shot her a warning glare.
All three of them were figures who stood above thousands. If they truly got angry, no one could remain unfazed.
Finally showing a bit of awareness, the girl awkwardly left, clutching her phone.
