“Hello, Mother.” Ning Weiying snapped out of it and greeted her. His mother was so beautiful—no wonder he was so handsome.
“Ah, you’re awake. Did you sleep well?” Mrs. Zhou walked over, took her hand, and led her to the dining table.
“Pretty well.” Ning Weiying looked at Mrs. Zhou holding her hand. It felt like she hadn’t been held by a mother’s hand in a long time. A mother’s hand was still the warmest.
“You must be hungry. Come, eat.” Mrs. Zhou sat down beside her and practically pushed every dish on the table in front of her.
Father Wen: Why isn’t my wife sitting with me anymore…
“Sweetheart, has Wen Yu been bullying you? If he has, you tell Mother, and I’ll hit him for you, not let him eat, and kick him out. I’ll raise you myself.” Mrs. Zhou said seriously, as if Wen Yu were the son-in-law and Ning Weiying her own daughter.
Wen Yu: …
“No, Mother. Wen Yu treats me very well.” Wen Yu treated her very well and spoiled her.
Wen Yu: My wife is the best (▽)
Ning Weiying turned her head and saw the man sitting across from her. This must be Wen Yu’s father.
“Hello, Father.” Ning Weiying’s voice was a little timid. She had just seen him holding a feather duster, and she was a bit scared.
“Mhm.” Father Wen nodded and looked her up and down. Ning Weiying felt a little uncomfortable under his gaze and her eyes darted away.
“You’re from Yihai Conservatory of Music?” Wen Feng asked her.
“Yes…” Ning Weiying rubbed her hands together, her voice a little weak.
“Are you taking a census? Go sit over there when you’re done eating.” Mrs. Zhou snapped at him. Coming in and asking this and that, making the poor girl feel uncomfortable.
Father Wen obediently went to pack the luggage, letting the mother and daughter eat.
As he passed Wen Yu, he patted his shoulder twice.
You little rascal, you know how to pick a wife.
“Come on, let’s eat. Ignore them.” Mrs. Zhou finished speaking and began feeding Ning Weiying.
Ning Weiying could barely handle her enthusiasm and shot Wen Yu a pleading look.
Wen Yu walked over, grabbed a chair, and sat down beside Ning Weiying. “Mom, you eat. I’ll feed her.” He picked up the spoon and chopsticks and began feeding her.
Seeing this, Mrs. Zhou backed off, watching her son feed his wife. Mhm, he’s catching on. A wife needs to be spoiled like this.
Three people were eating at the table, and one person was packing luggage in the room.
“Zhou Yi!” Wen Moci called out. “Alright, bro, you can drop me off here. I see my classmate.”
The three of them had left the villa and gone their separate ways. Wen Moci hitched a ride in Song Jianshen’s car, and Jiang Huaian went back to the hospital.
Zhou Yi had been planning to go to the library. He’d just walked out of the neighborhood gate when he ran into Wen Moci. He actually came.
Wen Moci ran over and saw him carrying a backpack. “Where are you off to?”
“Going to the library. Why did you actually come?” He thought he was just joking.
“I’ve got nothing to do at home, so I came to hang out with you.”
“I don’t have time to play with you.”
“Then I’ll study with you.” With that, he grabbed Zhou Yi and dragged him along.
“Oh, what’s this? The young master actually studying himself?” Zhou Yi was being dragged along. The sun must be rising from the west—since when did he voluntarily study?
“Hey, I’m just keeping you company. You study, I’ll just watch from the side.”
Zhou Yi: …
Sure enough, he’d sooner die than actually study.
Wen Yu and Father Wen were washing dishes in the kitchen, while Mrs. Zhou and Ning Weiying were playing games on the couch in the living room.
“How come so fast? Where did you meet?” Just the day before yesterday, he said there was no one, and now they already had a marriage certificate.
“At a bar.”
Hearing this, Father Wen frowned at him. What was he supposed to do? He wanted to slap him.
“Dad, it’s not what you think,” Wen Yu said helplessly. Didn’t his own father know his son at all? How could he possibly do something like that?
“That’s good then. Set up a time to have a meal with her parents sometime, and discuss the wedding arrangements.” Since she was so young marrying into the family, they couldn’t let her feel wronged.
Wen Yu nodded. He hadn’t thought it through—he’d only been thinking about marrying her, not about their parents.
“The wedding isn’t urgent. She hasn’t graduated yet. I asked her, and she said she wants to wait until after graduation.” He put the bowl into the cabinet as he spoke.
“Are you two done with the chores or not? Come on, come carry us in the game—we can’t get past this level!” Mrs. Zhou called out to them, but her hands were still busy playing. They were already fighting for their lives.
The father and son resignedly went to grab their phones, walked into the living room, and wrapped their arms around their respective young wives to play the game. Wen Yu and Father Wen led them through battle after battle, and the two women got more and more excited as they played, so the men kept playing with them.
They played like that all morning. When mealtime approached, the father and son went to cook again. With no one left to play games with them, the two women started doing something else.
“Sweetie, do you like reading manga?” Mrs. Zhou asked in a low voice.
“Yeah, does Mom read them too?”
Mrs. Zhou gave her a look, and Ning Weiying understood instantly.
She never would have thought that the audience for this kind of manga would include someone of her mother-in-law’s generation.
The two of them immediately huddled together with a tablet, a blanket draped over their legs, whispering to each other as they read, laughing every now and then.
“Dad, are you and Mom still leaving?” Wen Yu saw how much fun she was having with his mother and breathed a sigh of relief. The reason he hadn’t told his parents was that he was afraid she’d feel uneasy.
“We originally planned to come back for a visit and then leave. But seeing how your mother is, I doubt we’ll be going anywhere.”
“Did Xiao Ci tell you?” Wen Yu thought Wen Moci was the most likely culprit. His two brothers would never have ratted him out.
Father Wen nodded and started preparing to stir-fry. With two people cooking, it was fast—done in half an hour.
The two on the sofa were thoroughly absorbed in their reading and didn’t even hear them calling for dinner.
Wen Yu walked over. What were they so engrossed in? Father Wen didn’t go over—he knew his own wife. She was up to no good with someone else.
Mrs. Zhou felt someone approaching and immediately snapped the tablet shut, her movements practiced and smooth. Clearly, she’d done this plenty of times before.
“Come on, let’s go eat.” She pulled Ning Weiying toward the dining table. Wen Yu followed behind them, a smile in his eyes, as if he understood what was going on.
At the library—
“Come on, stop reading. Let’s go eat.” Zhou Yi packed up his books while Wen Moci was still reading with great relish.
“Alright, let’s go,” Wen Moci said, but made no move to leave at all.
“Hurry up, let’s go. If you want to read it that badly, just buy it.” Zhou Yi grabbed his arm and pulled him up. Why wasn’t he moving? When Zhou Yi had first arrived, Wen Moci had been playing on his phone. When he got bored of that, he watched Zhou Yi study. When he got bored of that, he went and found a book.
Zhou Yi had assumed he was reading some classic literature, but it turned out he was reading a novel. Sure enough—he’d given him too much credit.
Wen Moci kept reading even while eating. Zhou Yi took the book from him.
“What is it? You’re so into it.” He glanced at it and raised an eyebrow. It was right at the climax.
“You actually like reading this stuff?” Zhou Yi asked, a hint of teasing in his tone.
“I just grabbed any book, how was I supposed to know it was this kind? Though, it’s actually pretty good.” He said, reaching out his hand to take the book back.
Zhou Yi returned the book to him and continued eating.
“Better not read too much of that, or you might end up turning yourself gay.” Zhou Yi said with a chuckle.
“That won’t happen.” He was just reading for the thrill of it.
Zhou Yi: That’s not necessarily true.
“Is what’s written in here real?” Wen Moci’s tone carried a hint of doubt. Tsk, just looking at it made him hurt.
Zhou Yi let out a snicker. “Why don’t you try it and find out?”
Wen Moci: …No way, I’m straight.
Wen Moci said nothing, closed the book, and went back to eating.
“I’m coming over to your place later, not going home.” Wen Moci said with his mouth full of meat, his words muffled.
