“Guess our plan needs to be cancelled,” Sasha said as she stared at the dark clouds which released torrents of water.

“And here I was planning to stop at the grocery store on our way back to buy some food.”

Jack, who had been pressing his phone, paused and turned to her.

“I can go for you,” he said.

“No need. Green Mart should be open. I’ll go there,” Sasha said as she carried a raincoat that was hung by the door.

Jack stood up, swiftly walked to her side, and snatched the raincoat from her hand.

“You do the cooking. I’ll do the buying.”

Before she could respond, Jack left the house.

***

As he stepped out of the house, Jack tightened his grip on his raincoat.

The sky also seemed to cry for the fallen heroes as rain fell heavily on the streets of The City.

Green Mart wasn’t a long walk away from his house, just a 5-minute walk, and thanks to the lockdown, he didn’t have to wait in line.

Paying for the groceries Sasha had texted him, he stepped out of the store ready to go home, but he stopped as he noticed a figure zoom above him.

‘Eve?’ Jack raised an eyebrow as he also noticed that she was crying!

Jack took his phone from his pocket and texted Sasha he’d be back a little bit late, and without waiting for her reply, he placed it back in his pocket.

Finding a secluded place, he removed his glasses, which shimmered out of existence before he followed Eve, completely forgetting he wasn’t wearing his suit.

(A/N: The glasses might be confusing, but check chapter 2. Thanks to a reader, I corrected it.)

Jack followed Atom Eve till they reached a beach which was desolate.

Immediately they both landed, Atom Eve, her hands glowing pink, turned back and pointed them at Jack with a cold expression, but seeing it was him, she dropped her hands, her expression turning slightly awkward.

“Sorry…” she said.

“It’s nothing. I sneaked up on you. It’s understandable,” Jack said as he walked and stood beside her, not staring at her but at the sea.

“So… why are you crying?” he asked and quickly added, “If you don’t mind telling me!”

Atom Eve turned to him with a smile that didn’t look like one.

“Ah…” Jack was stunned.

‘The world is moving so much faster.’

First, the burial of the seven Guardians of the Globe, which clearly happened after the Flaxans’ third invasion, now this… the breakup of Rex and Eve.

“I… I don’t know what to say. Honestly, I haven’t been in a relationship and don’t understand how you feel right now.” He turned to her, staring straight into her eyes and smiled.

“But you shouldn’t cry. Don’t let your weakness be seen by others… and you should have given Rex and Kate both a rage-filled punch. You did that, right?”

“Pfft!” Eve chuckled and shook her head.

“I didn’t.”

Jack smiled and pointed at the sky.

“How about you release your anger in the sky?” he asked, and noticing her confusion, he added, “Above the clouds. Just the two of us. Shout all you’ve bottled up, and don’t worry, you won’t be alone.”

Atom Eve turned and stared at him, her eyes never leaving him for a minute before she nodded.

“Okay.”

Jack smiled.

“See you up there!”

Boom!

Atom Eve found herself smiling and followed him up.

The moment they reached above the clouds, the two turned and stared at each other, and Jack, still with a smile, said:

“I’ll go first.”

He inhaled and then shouted, “I hate killing! I just want to live as a hero! One who upholds justice without killing!”

He breathed heavily, a bright smile plastered on his face, then he turned to Atom Eve.

Getting the cue, she also inhaled heavily and shouted, “Kate is a bitch!! And Rex… Rex is a selfish bastard! They are both insane!!”

After shouting, the two stared at each other, then burst out in laughter.

“Thanks… that helped,” Atom Eve said, a genuine smile gracing her lips.

“It’s nothing,” Jack said with a smile.

After the two stayed hovering in the sky for a while, Jack turned to Atom Eve.

“I should get going,” he said, raising the grocery bag he held.

“I still need to drop this.”

“Okay. Bye,” Atom Eve said.

“Mhm,” Jack nodded, but just as he was about to go, he paused and turned to her.

“If you need anyone to listen to you, or just be with you, I’m here… oh God, that sounds so corny.”

Jack groaned and, without looking at Atom Eve, descended downwards with a boom!

Atom Eve watched where he once hovered and chuckled.

‘Cute.’

***

Jack, now in his glasses, opened the door and hung his raincoat while shouting.

“I’m home!”

“Took you long enough!” Sasha said as she stepped out of the kitchen, an apron already tied around her waist.

“I still bought it,” Jack said as he raised the nylon.

Sasha rolled her eyes, but just as she was about to take the nylon, she froze, noticing Jack’s happy expression.

“You look happy,” she said.

“Do I?” Jack muttered.

“Well, it’s a good thing, right?”

“Yeah,” Sasha nodded and took the nylon, walking back to the kitchen.

“Dry yourself and change your clothes. We can’t let you get the couch wet, can we?”

“Okay,” Jack nodded as he walked upstairs, but just as he was about to push his room door open, he paused as he remembered something—he hadn’t changed when he met Atom Eve.

‘Oh shit!’
