“What is this?” Shen Jin’s voice was trembling. He already considered his own mental state to be quite abnormal, but he had never seen a scene like this.

If he had to choose between this bowl of strange things and his mother, he would much rather spend time with his mother.

Yao Yueying leaned in for a closer look, and her face immediately twisted into a mask of pain[1]“Pain Mask” (痛苦面具): This is popular Chinese internet slang. It refers to a specific look of extreme distress or grimacing, often compared to a “mask” because the … Continue reading jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_2039462_1_1').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_2039462_1_1', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top center', relative: true, offset: [-7, 0], });.Full novel: The Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Of An Unhinged Novel Tore the Script Apart — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Lu Jinming sat still. He didn’t know what was in the bowl, but seeing Shen Jin looking so distressed made him happy. He certainly wasn’t going to be the only helpless one today, so he deliberately added fuel to the fire. “Why isn’t CEO Shen eating? Do you not like it?”

“It’s hard to say whether I like it or not…” Shen Jin didn’t know how to describe his current mood; he only blamed himself for talking too big earlier.

Lu Jinming gloated, “You just said you absolutely had to try it. You have to be a man of your word.”

Seeing that Shen Jin wasn’t eating, Yu Xingzhi picked up another pair of chopsticks, clamped a slightly slimy object, and brought it right up to Shen Jin’s face. “It’s leeches, CEO Shen. I worked hard to catch these; please don’t let them go to waste. Eat up.”

Was ‘no’ even an option?

【LEECHES!!!!】

【Holy crap, what kind of dark cuisine is this?! My god. Yin Shuwei catches snakes, and Yu Xingzhi catches leeches. Fine, fine, you two are a match made in heaven. Neither of you is allowed to go back into the dating pool and haunt anyone else!!!】

【’You can’t get two different kinds of people out of one bed.'[2]“You can’t get two different kinds of people out of one bed” (一個被窩裡真睡不出兩種人): A common folk saying that means couples usually have very similar personalities … Continue reading jQuery('#footnote_plugin_tooltip_2039462_1_2').tooltip({ tip: '#footnote_plugin_tooltip_text_2039462_1_2', tipClass: 'footnote_tooltip', effect: 'fade', predelay: 0, fadeInSpeed: 200, delay: 400, fadeOutSpeed: 200, position: 'top center', relative: true, offset: [-7, 0], }); Which philosopher said that? It’s practically the ultimate truth.】

【Ahhhhh get it away, get it away! So gross, so gross!】

Shen Jin wanted to refuse, trying to say tactfully, “I…”

But Yu Xingzhi didn’t give him any chance to decline. The moment he opened his mouth, that ice-cold, slimy, and elastic object was swiftly stuffed inside.

Yu Xingzhi even seemed afraid that Shen Jin wouldn’t be able to savor it properly; with a nimble flick of his chopsticks, he forced Shen Jin’s jaw shut.

Shen Jin: “Mmph! Mmmph!”

Shen Jin: “Blargh—”

The scene was too “beautiful” to look at directly. The moment Lu Jinming saw exactly what Yu Xingzhi had picked up, he stood straight up. His waist no longer hurt, and his legs weren’t sore; he bolted three meters back, terrified that Yu Xingzhi would be just as unceremonious and stuff a mouthful into his face too.

That couple was insane! If Yu Xingzhi decided to do it, Yin Shuwei would definitely be there to pin him down!

Shen Jin ran to the side and vomited until the world turned upside down. The worst part was that the thing in his mouth seemed to still be alive; he absolutely could not think about it.

To make matters worse, Yu Xingzhi said with a look of surprise, “Oh no, I forgot to gut them before making the cold salad. They seem like they’re not dead yet.”

“Stop talking,” Yao Yueying pleaded, unable to listen anymore.

【This is too X-rated. Is this even food a human can conceive of?】

【I’m currently eating lunch! Save me, save me, save me!】

【I have to say, I’m a bit tempted. I want to feed this to my boss and colleagues. Can we get a shopping link in the stream? I’ll order right now.】

【Clearly, Shen Jin was the one who insisted on eating it, and then he didn’t eat it.】

【Goddamn it, I’m calling the police to arrest you all!】

Finally, Shen Jin managed to settle his stomach slightly. He stumbled back over, snatched the enamel bowl from Yu Xingzhi’s hand, and with a flick of his wrist, dumped all the “food” onto the ground.

“Let’s not eat this. It’s all raw.” Shen Jin’s face was deathly pale.

It was simply too terrifying—to the point that he didn’t even want to look at Yu Xingzhi’s face right now, or he’d be reminded of what he just ate.

At this very moment, that secret, powerful urge for conquest and possession in Shen Jin’s heart had vanished without a trace. He even began to reflect on what exactly he had seen in Yu Xingzhi in the first place.

That “startling first glimpse” at the banquet years ago was gradually turning into a dark, twisted, and wriggling leech in his memory.

Blargh—

By the end of the meal, everyone except Shen Jin had a decent appetite.

Of course, the free-roaming chickens nearby had an excellent appetite.

The leeches Shen Jin dumped on the ground became a feast for them. They were incredibly excited, and even after finishing, they continued to scratch at the ground unwillingly.

While eating, Yin Shuwei kept an eye on Yu Xingzhi’s expression, but everything looked normal. Yet, she was sure that when Yu Xingzhi had stuffed that mouthful into Shen Jin’s face, a flash of coldness had flickered through his smiling eyes.

That emotion had shifted so fast that Yin Shuwei thought she had misseen it.

To make up for the disappointment of everyone missing out on the cold-tossed leeches, Yin Shuwei contributed her stir-fried field snails.

Unfortunately, everyone now had a psychological shadow regarding anything resembling a wriggling invertebrate; aside from Yin Shuwei and Yu Xingzhi, no one touched them.

【It’s a conspiracy, right? Now no one will eat their food.】

【It’s fine, they didn’t eat anyone else’s either. Everyone is being quite considerate of each other. They all brought out meat dishes but didn’t touch anyone else’s meat, since it was all earned with hard labor.】

【Do you really consider what Yu Xingzhi brought out to be a ‘meat dish’?】

Lunch was a silent affair. The morning had been too chaotic, and the noon had been too manic; no one had the energy left to discuss anything. After eating in silence, they each went back to their respective houses.

【Why do I feel like after Yin Shuwei and Yu Xingzhi’s bizarre operations, the relationship between the other two couples has actually improved? I used to find Lu Jinming’s way of speaking so suffocating, but today he actually praised Lin Rongrong’s cooking.】

【Comparison is the thief of joy—or in this case, the source of it. He probably realized that having a normal wife is a very lucky thing.】

During the free time in the afternoon, Director Zhen took the guests’ states into full consideration. Lu Jinming hadn’t injured his bones, but his muscle strain required at least a day of rest. Shen Jin had almost gone to get his stomach pumped but managed to endure it.

Yin Shuwei and Yu Xingzhi, however, were full of energy. Instead of napping at noon, they sat together playing Gomoku. When they got tired of that, they went to catch bugs to feed the chickens. After a few hours, they had developed a cross-species bond with the flock.

Now, with a few “chick-chick-chick” calls from Yin Shuwei, the chickens would scramble to fly toward her.

Forget it, these two living treasures can’t be used as a reference point.

Director Zhen felt mentally exhausted.

“Considering everyone’s hard work this morning, and believing that you have gained some new insights into marriage through your respective tasks, we will hold indoor activities this afternoon,” Director Zhen announced.

Yin Shuwei was puzzled. “Does that sentence have any logic at all?”

“Mind your own business,” Director Zhen said, forcibly stabilizing the show’s main storyline. “As the saying goes, ‘using a person as a mirror, one can understand their gains and losses.’ In the upcoming activity, I hope everyone can see others, see life, and see themselves.”

The production team led the three couples into three different rooms. They would act as marriage counselors, listening to various pre-marital or post-marital problems of others and mediating or resolving conflicts.

【Interesting. They haven’t even wiped their own butts clean, yet they dare to mediate others’ emotional disputes? I hope they don’t get schooled by the passersby instead.】

【There’s a high probability there are no ‘passersby’ on a show like this. I bet it’s a script. This should be good.】

Yin Shuwei and Yu Xingzhi sat together, waiting for the “blind box” of a surprise guest to be opened.

After playing all noon, Yin Shuwei didn’t feel the slightest bit sleepy. Ever since she transmigrated, she had been bursting with energy every day. Life without a job is truly wonderful!

There were three knocks on the door, and a young woman bowed slightly as she walked in. After sitting down, she said, “Hello, counselors.”

“Hello, hello. State your problem,” Yin Shuwei said with a professional smile.

“I want to ask… my husband’s ex-girlfriend is pregnant with his child. What should I do now?”
