Director Zhen’s vision went black—then black again. He was just this close from watching his newly launched program get taken offline.

【I’m not blind! How does this crazy woman even have fans? How can you defend that?】

Shen Jin, the person involved, was furious but didn’t dare speak up. He still had to maintain his usual gentle and refined image, forcing out a smile that he thought was elegant and magnanimous. “Miss Yin is quite humorous.”

“Stop smiling, it’s ugly. The entire nation is watching,” Yin Shuwei turned away in disdain.

Out of the corner of her eye, she thought she saw Yao Yueying stifling a laugh.

It wasn’t that Yin Shuwei didn’t understand the storyline of these characters—it was just that the fake author had glossed over everyone except the protagonists.

Take this variety show, for example. Within just a few hours of broadcasting, the original host’s photos were already circulating all over the internet, making it impossible to continue normal recording.

The entire variety show was brushed over in a few strokes, all to highlight Shen Jin’s unique feelings for Yu Xingzhi, Yin Shuwei’s despicable behaviour, and Yao Yueying’s unworthiness, paving the way for both couples’ divorces.

What a stupid author, so misogynistic, prioritizing so-called “true love” over other people’s lives.

After the thrilling little activity concluded, the three couples finally sat down together normally and began a standard Q&A session.

“Why did you choose to participate in this program?” a staff member asked nervously.

【Great question, a fatal blow right from the start.】

【Actually, I don’t really understand it either. Well, except for the bizarre pairing of Actor Yu and Yin Shuwei, of course.】

Lu Jinming felt like he’d lost his mind. Lured by the program team’s sweet talk, he had worn an orange frog mascot suit and walked around in public, severely damaging his glorious image as a CEO, investor, collector, entrepreneur, pioneer of prosperity, and the national husband.

Taking a sip of cheap instant black coffee, Lu Jinming frowned and said, “Actually, I don’t understand it either. She insisted on coming, probably because she had too much free time at home with nothing better to do.”

Lin Rongrong’s previously relaxed expression instantly turned strained. Her fingers, resting on her lap, began twisting nervously around each other as she forced a bitter smile. “Too much free time? You never see all the effort I put in.”

“You don’t work or earn money. We have a maid and a nanny at home. Is spending money really that exhausting?” Lu Jinming leaned back in his chair and said coldly.

“The kids’ school matters are endless and complicated, and your parents and sister keep making more and more demands…”

“Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do?”

Lin Rongrong took a deep breath. “Then there’s nothing left for us to talk about.”

【Oh boy, I can feel it. This is so suffocating.】

【Honestly, I really don’t get what Lin Rongrong is being so fussy about. She has people waiting on her hand and foot every day, but instead of appreciating it, she goes out of her way to find things to do, only to then dump all her negative emotions on her husband.】

【I can’t accept how they’ve ended up like this. That extravagant, once-in-a-lifetime wedding made a huge impact on me when I was young. Who didn’t envy Lin Rongrong back then? 】

【Exactly. A Cinderella from a modest family, getting pregnant before marriage and snagging the CEO of Chengyuan Group? If it were me, I’d be laughing even in my dreams.】

【She’s just too greedy.】

Lu Jinming, however, chuckled at Lin Rongrong’s words. “You’re just being defensive. You don’t understand work matters. Taking good care of the household is already the bare minimum.”

“So Mr. Lu was an orphan before marriage?” Yin Shuwei dropped the bombshell without batting an eye.

The tears that had been about to fall from Lin Rongrong’s eyes were forced right back in by that one sentence.

Yao Yueying sat motionless, but a closer look revealed her lips were pressed tightly together, as if she was recalling every sad and painful memory in her mind.

Shen Jin couldn’t help but think—was Yin Shuwei just indiscriminately lashing out?

Lu Jinming’s face looked awful, but having learned the hard way that he couldn’t win an argument, all he said was, “What do you mean by that?”

Yin Shuwei grabbed a handful of nuts from beside her and started munching. “Then why, after getting a wife, do you start emphasizing filial piety and responsibility? Truly a CEO—even your ‘filial duties‘ get outsourced.”

“What’s your name?” Lu Jinming felt like he was sitting on pins and needles.

“Oh, touched a nerve, have we? Does your company not even comply with labor laws? Are you just living out your emperor fantasy with everyone catering to you?” Yin Shuwei’s words were sharper than a controlled blade. “I hate people who put on airs the most.”

【Yin Shuwei is so disrespectful. Why is she interfering in other people’s marital issues?】

【Did she come on the show just to pick fights?】

【Mr. Lu has to manage such a huge company—of course he’s busy. Lin Rongrong can’t even take care of the household properly—she’s just making trouble.】

【Listening to you all talk, I really wish I could experience the life of a man and see how great it is.】

Lu Jinming’s anger flared. “Aren’t you on this show too? What are you pretending for? Don’t act like some mediator. With an attitude like yours, no man would want you even if you got divorced.”

“I’m here for the money and the clout. Don’t tell me you didn’t get paid, Mr. Lu? And I see you’re not shy about soaking up all the attention either,” Yin Shuwei replied with a smile, completely unfazed.

Unable to win the argument, Lu Jinming immediately turned to Yu Xingzhi.

Only to find the man completely detached from the conversation, single-mindedly prying open macadamia nuts and neatly placing the kernels next by Yin Shuwei’s hand.

Yao Yueying raised an eyebrow. “You two look pretty harmonious. It doesn’t look like there are any issues between you two.”

Yin Shuwei: “Arranged marriage. Does ‘not being familiar’ count?”

Yu Xingzhi’s movements didn’t falter . “So I want to get to know you better.”

Yin Shuwei, who was sitting beside him, nearly choked on a nut. She turned her head to look, but Yu Xingzhi’s face remained as indifferent and aloof as ever, with no trace of any other expression—as if those words had just been her imagination.

What’s going on? Trying to generate hype?

Fine, fine, she wouldn’t ruin the act.

Yin Shuwei’s mind raced through eighteen twists and turns before settling on what she thought was a reasonable explanation. Then, with her conscience clear, she went right back to eating. Anyway, Yu Xingzhi didn’t eat them—he just liked cracking them open. If she didn’t eat them, wouldn’t that be a waste?

【Bitch!!!】

【I’m begging you, Yu Xingzhi—get a divorce already, ahhhh!!!!!】

【Damn it, money, money, money! This woman’s family is already in decline, and she married Yu Xingzhi just for the money. Going on a show like this just right after getting married is also for money. Even if I curse her out and give her traffic, she’ll still make money off of it—Ahhhh, when will she die!!!】

【Is this a marriage-first-love-later trope? I’ll take a bite first.】

【Eating everything will only hurt you!!!】

【No, eating everything will keep me nutritionally balanced.】

The haters went berserk. After furiously flaming her, they realized they’d pushed Yin Shuwei onto the top of the trending list—the haters were left utterly devastated.

On the other hand, some of Yu Xingzhi’s female fans and a small number of neutral observers felt that Yin Shuwei hadn’t really done anything wrong. Lu Jinming’s words were genuinely disgusting, and it was rare to see someone so frank and sincere.

The only one truly wounded on-site was Lu Jinming, his attacks had landed on cotton—soft, yielding, and utterly ineffective.

Yao Yueying spoke up just in time to save Lu Jinming a bit of face. “We don’t have any major issues. It’s just that I want a divorce, and President Shen wants to reconcile, that’s all.”

【Big Sister, are you sick?】

【My heart aches for President Shen.】

Fearing that the guests might actually come to blows, the production team quickly shifted the topic. “So, what lies have you told your partner in your daily lives?”

A forced change of subject.

Yao Yueying was the first to speak. “Does telling him that drinking more milk would help with his lactose intolerance count?”

Shen Jin’s pupils trembled with shock.

The barrage of comments immediately called her out as excessive and heartless.

Yin Shuwei pondered for a moment, then sighed and said to Yu Xingzhi, “I’m sorry, I lied to you that night. I didn’t actually go to kill a pheasant—I stabbed three people instead.”

Yu Xingzhi smiled and shook his head. “It’s fine. I didn’t bring the axe to guard against thieves either.”

The faces of everyone present contorted to varying degrees.

【Ahhhhhhh???】

【What kind of play were you two absolute psychos acting out that night?! Someone go check their water meters[1]“查水表” (chá shuǐbiǎo) — literally “check the water meter” — is a Chinese online slang phrase used as a joke or as a warning.
