20 – A New Beginning — Scene 1 – Monday Morning The familiar road outside Sunrise Residency was lively again.
Dhruv stepped out of House No.
7, wearing his clean school uniform.
As always…
His tie was slightly crooked.
His shirt sleeves were folded unevenly.
His blazer hung over one shoulder.
His black hair looked like he had simply splashed water on it and hoped for the best.
Urvi leaned against the doorway.
“You know…” “One day I’ll successfully make you look presentable.” Dhruv smiled.
“Don’t waste your energy.” “It doesn’t help me study.” She laughed.
“At least you’re honest.” — Outside…
Deep immediately pointed at Dhruv.
“Look at him.” “He survived his emotional character arc.” Dhruv looked confused.
“…What?” “Nothing.” Alya elbowed Deep.
“Stop narrating his life.” Mitsuri walked out a moment later.
Today, her pink hair was tied into a neat braid, and she carried an extra notebook under her arm.
She smiled.
“Morning.” Dhruv smiled back.
“Morning, Mitsuu.” It felt…
Normal again.
— Scene 2 – Presentation Day The English teacher clapped her hands.
“Everyone.” “Today’s presentations.” Harsh and Dhruv went first.
Their presentation was simple.
Organized.
Short.
When they finished…
The class applauded.
Next…
Kabir and Mitsuri.
Kabir spoke confidently.
Mitsuri explained the visual slides.
The two worked well together.
The teacher nodded with satisfaction.
“Excellent teamwork.” The class clapped again.
Dhruv clapped too.
This time…
Without forcing himself.
He simply appreciated a good presentation.
Across the room…
Urvi’s words echoed in his mind.
“Do you trust Mitsuri?” “Yeah.” “Then what’s the problem?” He smiled to himself.
“Exactly.” — Scene 3 – After Class Students packed their bags.
Kabir walked over.
“Dhruv.” “Hm?” “I’ve heard you’re the cricket team’s vice-captain.” “Yeah.” “I’m terrible at cricket.” Dhruv laughed.
“So is Mitsuu.” Kabir smiled.
“Maybe you can teach both of us someday.” Dhruv looked at him for a second.
Then nodded.
“Sure.” “No problem.” Kabir extended his hand.
“Thanks.” Dhruv shook it.
Deep watched the entire interaction from the back of the classroom.
“…What?” Alya smiled.
“He grew up.” — Scene 4 – Lunch The four sat beneath the neem tree.
For the first time…
Kabir walked over carrying his lunch.
“Mind if I join?” Deep looked at Dhruv.
Dhruv simply moved his bag.
“Have a seat.” Kabir smiled.
“Thanks.” The conversation shifted from cricket…
To books…
To movies…
To school festivals.
Dhruv listened more than he spoke.
But whenever he did…
Everyone paid attention.
Mitsuri noticed something.
Whenever Kabir spoke about literature…
Dhruv listened with genuine curiosity instead of pretending to know everything.
That made her smile.
— Scene 5 – The Bell As lunch ended…
Students rushed back toward their classrooms.
Mitsuri accidentally dropped her journal from her bag.
It slid across the corridor.
Dhruv picked it up.
He noticed the cover.
A small pressed pink flower was tucked inside the transparent cover.
He handed it back immediately.
“You dropped this.” Mitsuri carefully took it.
“Thank you.” She hugged the journal lightly against her chest.
“…It’s important to me.” Dhruv smiled.
“I figured.” He didn’t ask what was inside.
He didn’t even look.
Some things…
Didn’t need to be opened to be respected.
Mitsuri quietly appreciated that more than she could express.
— Scene 6 – Cricket Ground Practice ended just before sunset.
Yash threw Dhruv one last ball.
“Last shot.” Dhruv smiled.
“Make it count.” The ball came.
CRACK!
A clean straight drive.
The ball rolled almost to the boundary rope.
Aditya clapped once.
“Good.” “But remember…” “Practice because you love cricket.” “Not because you’re running away from something.” Dhruv smiled.
“…I know.” And this time…
He truly meant it.
— Scene 7 – The Walk Home The five walked back together.
Deep was arguing with Kabir about whether mystery novels were better than action manga.
Alya had already stopped trying to settle the debate.
A few steps behind…
Dhruv and Mitsuri walked side by side.
“You know…” Mitsuri began.
“Hm?” “I’m happy things are back to normal.” Dhruv looked ahead.
“…Me too.” Then he added with a sheepish smile, “And…” “I’m sorry again.” She shook her head.
“It’s okay.” “We’re best friends.” “…Right?” Dhruv looked at her.
Then smiled.
“…Right.” — Scene 8 – Mission Pink Hair Log That night…
Deep sat at his desk.
He opened a notebook.
Across the front page, written in bold letters: MISSION PINK HAIR He uncapped a pen and wrote: > Phase One ✔ Friendship Phase Two ✔ Best Friends Current Status: Subject Dhruv has stopped running away.
Subject Mitsuri smiles 37% more around him.
Probability of future romance…
Very high.
Alya suddenly appeared behind him.
“…You’re measuring smiles now?” Deep nearly jumped out of his chair.
“I HAVE SCIENTIFIC METHODS!” Alya laughed.
“No.” “You have too much free time.” — That same night…
Mitsuri opened her journal.
She wrote only one sentence.
> Today, I felt like everything finally returned to the way it was supposed to be.
She closed the journal with a peaceful smile.
Across Sunrise Residency…
Dhruv sat by his window, sketching the outline of a cricket bat in his notebook.
For the first time in weeks…
His heart and his mind were no longer pulling in opposite directions.
They had found a balance.
A balance that would soon be tested again.
