The Little Merman in the Apocalypse 20
In the pristine white world, only the tracks left by the slowly advancing convoy and the silhouettes of distant mountains broke the monotony.
The tires of the vehicles had been specially modified, crisscrossed with grooves to prevent slipping on the snow.
The deep gray color and the specially installed bulletproof panels marked them as the Base’s exclusive off-road vehicles.
Snowflakes settled on the car windows, accumulating into a thick layer.
Qiao Han leaned against the back seat, his white robe draping over the edge of the seat.
The man had a tall, slender figure, with slightly raised eyebrows, and his eyes were deep beneath the lenses of his glasses.
He was constantly worried about Su Luo, the harmless little merman, wondering if he had already succumbed to the harsh apocalypse…
Qiao Han wasn’t alone; he was accompanied by a well-trained armed team.
“Dr. Qiao, the locator for A307 shows he’s nearby, but due to his fast movement, we can’t pinpoint his exact location yet.”
All they could see was an abandoned hospital standing halfway up the mountain.
“Let’s rest before continuing the search.”
“Understood, Dr. Qiao.”
The man with the bushy beard leading the team was Wu Shan, a tall and strong figure with a prominent nose, who hadn’t shaved in a while, letting his beard grow down to his chin.
With a cigarette dangling from his mouth, his impatience was evident.
“A bunch of deadweights, always causing trouble.”
He had never liked Qiao Han, who seemed weak and pretentious, always taking breaks.
But An Lan had ordered him to protect Qiao Han.
Wu Shan was the first to open the car door and jump out, irritably crushing the spent cigarette underfoot as he shouldered his rifle and headed toward Qingzhou Hospital.
Qi Yu, with a serious expression, forcibly pulled Zhao Zilin into the roadside bushes.
“Shh, the Base has sent people.”
Their hiding spot was poor; if Qiao Han and his team turned around, they would be easily spotted.
Zhao Zilin was anxious but didn’t dare make a sound.
Earlier, she had noticed Su Luo’s pale cheeks turning an abnormal red, his hair damp, clearly bullied by someone.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t see what was happening behind him, making it impossible to assess the situation.
“That Qiao guy is here too, so you don’t need to worry about that little fool.”
Qiao Han was a researcher at the Base and could be considered Su Luo’s caretaker, so he should be safe.
Qi Yu and Zhao Zilin didn’t go inside.
The hospital lobby’s windows were shattered, allowing the howling wind to rush in, making the temperature inside nearly as cold as outside.
The white marble floor was cracked, and most of the chairs were broken.
Qiao Han, lacking energy, found a barely suitable chair to rest on.
His gaze was intense, lost in thought.
Wu Shan didn’t get along with him and couldn’t sit still.
So he left two people to protect Qiao Han and took the remaining fifteen brothers to wander around.
Wu Shan led the way to the second floor, kicking open the precarious doors of the patient rooms, making a loud commotion.
The dust was suffocating.
“Cough, cough.”
They searched everywhere, finding the cabinets empty as if they had been ransacked.
Wu Shan wasted time and found nothing, cursing in frustration.
“What a lousy hospital, not even a bottle of alcohol.”
The group moved like bandits, leaving destruction in their wake.
The already dilapidated tables were kicked into pieces.
“Xiao Liu? Come here.”
In the patient room, Wu Shan didn’t hear a response from his subordinate, frowning in displeasure.
“Are you deaf? Can’t you hear me?”
When he stepped out, he realized that Xiao Liu and several other brothers who had been chatting outside were gone.
“Brother Shan, maybe they went to the bathroom. Don’t worry, they’ll be back soon.”
But half an hour passed, and the missing people still hadn’t returned.
Wu Shan was furious, grinding his teeth and rubbing his prickly beard.
“They’ve been spoiled too much, not following my orders. When they come back, they’ll pay for it!”
After cursing, he didn’t take it seriously, thinking Xiao Liu and the others were just curious and exploring other floors.
The once bustling hospital was now silent and dead.
The nurses and doctors were gone, leaving behind bloodstained white uniforms and caps hanging on the walls like ghosts.
The eerie atmosphere made one of the men hesitant, suggesting.
“Brother Shan, this hospital feels creepy. Maybe we should head back to the first floor.”
Wu Shan, with his bushy beard, slapped the man’s head, speaking with disdain.
“Look at you, scaredy-cat. We’ve checked, and there are no zombies here. What are you afraid of?”
The man who wanted to leave didn’t dare speak again.
Further down the corridor, they saw a locked operating room.
The indicator light flickered between red and green, clearly broken.
Wu Shan couldn’t kick the door open, so he shot the lock off with his gun.
Reckless and fearless.
“Damn, what’s hidden in here that’s locked up? Let’s see.”
Despite his arrogance, the man was cautious, checking carefully to confirm there were no zombies.
Looking up, his eyes widened in shock and disbelief, his mouth agape.
The ceiling was crowded with hanging corpses, still swaying.
“Brother Shan… who could be so twisted to…”
The words stopped abruptly as they saw the boy lying on the operating table.
Su Luo was covered with a white dust-free suit worn by doctors, from head to toe, clearly too large for him.
His neck was as white as snow, as beautiful as a freshly bloomed rose.
But his mouth was taped shut, unable to speak.
Su Luo signaled them to leave quickly—Zhou Yu, that madman, was here!
But they never expected.
Wu Shan spat on the ground, standing arrogantly at the door, not intending to leave.
No one would have guessed that in the bloody operating room, a small beauty was hidden.
Since the apocalypse began, Wu Shan hadn’t seen anyone as stunning as the boy.
The lonely man couldn’t help but have wicked thoughts.
So he instructed two of his subordinates.
“You two, bring him over here. Be careful, don’t make him cry.”
They looked at the hanging corpses above, terrified but not daring to disobey Wu Shan.
After all, angering the man had dire consequences, and no one wanted to experience it again.
“Got it, Brother Shan.”
They tucked their guns into their waists and slowly approached the beautiful boy on the operating table.
“Why is he shaking his head like that?”
“I don’t know either.”
As they talked, they moved closer, within two meters of Su Luo.
There was a noise above, and they looked up, just as a working chainsaw fell, decapitating them at an unavoidable speed.
Warm blood splattered instantly on the walls and floor.
This gruesome scene unfolded right in front of Su Luo, who closed his eyes in shock, burying his face in Zhou Yu’s white coat, sobbing quietly.
He had only one thought in his mind, “So terrifying…”
