The Little Merman in the Apocalypse 6

The boy’s shoulders trembled slightly.

As he cried, a delicate blush spread across his nose and the corners of his eyes.Full novel: The Cute Little Beauty is Always on the Bad Man’s Mind — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

His upturned nose was beaded with sweat, and his pale blue fish tail drooped limply over the white operating table.

Youni suppressed the nameless anger flaring in her heart and gently wiped Su Luo’s tears, her voice soft.

“Don’t be afraid.”

An Lan was about to urge them on when suddenly,

a piercing siren blared throughout the research facility. Zombies launched an organized attack on the base without warning.

The assault was fierce.

Su Luo had never heard such an urgent, explosive sound before.

An Lan’s face immediately turned serious, her gaze firm and sharp, as she hurried away.

Above the city, the sky was a dull gray, as if stained by dust, losing its original blue.

The clouds were thick and oppressive,

and a drizzling rain brought a biting chill.

The air was filled with the scent of ruins, a mix of earth, rain, and blood.

Sang Biao died amidst the chaos, and no one knew why.

Afterward, Huang Mao became the new leader.

All the survivors fled in panic to an abandoned gas station outside.

They hadn’t managed to bring enough food.

The temperature dropped, the environment grew harsher, and staying warm became a significant problem.

“Everyone, look around for any usable cars, then go out to gather supplies.”

Huang Mao’s group remained as arrogant as ever, wielding guns to send others on dangerous tasks without a care.

Meanwhile, they lounged around, smoking and chatting leisurely.

Xiao Mei frowned, leaning in to whisper to Huang Mao that she needed to use the restroom.

“Let’s go, I’ll go with you.”

The young man kicked open the rusted iron door with his gun, took a quick look around, found nothing unusual, and stood guard outside.

For some reason, Xiao Mei felt a persistent sense of unease in her chest.

It made her inexplicably anxious.

Her fingers tightened and then relaxed.

She glanced around, the tiles on the walls reflecting the cold light.

Her blurred reflection appeared in the dusty mirror.

She was alone.

The faucet dripped steadily, “drip, drip.”

Xiao Mei was still wearing her long dress from before, with a furry shawl added, insufficient for warmth.

To be honest, she was very hungry, having not eaten all day, but she didn’t mention it to avoid being a burden, enduring hunger and cold.

Her slender ankles in high heels struggled to stay steady on the wet floor.

“So dirty…”

Before the apocalypse, she had lived a life of comfort and ease.

Now, looking at the uncleaned restroom, the stench made her eyes water.

She felt very uncomfortable but gritted her teeth and squatted down.

“Ugh… Achoo!”

It was unbearably cold.

Covering her nose, Xiao Mei casually glanced at the floor tiles, which reflected another figure!

She stiffly and slowly raised her head, locking eyes with a zombie missing half its head, oozing fluid, perched on the partition to her left.

Judging by its clothes, it was one of the gas station staff.

Its terrifying eyeball dangled near its nose, and its bluish-brown fingers clutched the wooden partition tightly.

It stared unblinkingly at Xiao Mei.

Her mind went blank, an unprecedented panic surged through her heart.

She was so terrified she couldn’t breathe.

Neither moved, locked in a tense standoff.

The female zombie loomed over her, its damaged brain rendering it dim-witted, unable to comprehend Xiao Mei’s actions.

Its head tilted, nearly causing greenish brain matter to fall on Xiao Mei’s clean dress.

She dared not move, on the verge of tears.

Too much time had passed.

Huang Mao leaned against the wall, exhaling smoke that dissipated into the air, the chill biting.

As the rain gradually stopped, he watched the white crystalline flakes melting on his jacket.

It was snowing.

This was not a good sign, especially in times of scarcity.

His expression grew serious.

Xiao Mei had been inside too long, and Huang Mao called out from outside.

“Are you done yet? Hurry up, it’s snowing.”

Inside, the standoff continued.

Xiao Mei’s beautiful face was etched with panic, unable to move or respond.

Watching the zombie’s foul saliva drip down, she endured immense discomfort.

The man’s shouts outside caught its attention.

“Huh…”

The female zombie wobbled down from the partition, its exposed bones snapping with a “crack.”

It felt no pain, crawling quickly in an awkward, animalistic posture, leaving a trail of filth.

Xiao Mei desperately wanted the young man to run, but she didn’t dare speak, fearing the zombie would return to attack her.

She could only pray silently.

The cold weather caused her breath to condense into frost, the temperature still dropping.

Sister Zhao and Qi Yu stood in a secluded spot, quietly discussing their next plan.

She glanced back inadvertently.

She saw something crawling rapidly from the restroom door, its movements disturbingly inhuman.

She only had time to shout to Huang Mao, who was still smoking, “Watch out!”

The man heard but it was too late.

The zombie moved swiftly, its hind legs propelling it to pounce on the unsuspecting Huang Mao.

It sank its foul teeth into the young man’s artery.

They rolled on the ground, tearing at each other.

The onlookers dared not intervene.

“Bang!”

The gunshot rang out as Huang Mao blew the zombie’s head off, kicking it away.

But he was gravely injured, unable to speak, blood gushing uncontrollably.

The players could only sigh softly, too preoccupied to care about this NPC.

Huang Mao’s former comrades tightened their grip on their weapons, ready to kill him to prevent another zombie from emerging.

The bitten young man’s mouth was full of bloody froth.

Xiao Mei emerged, worried, but when she saw Huang Mao lying severely injured on the ground,

her heart skipped a beat, and she cried out in sorrow, choking as she knelt beside him.

“How did this happen?”

Xiao Mei tried to use her shawl to stop Huang Mao’s bleeding, but it was futile.

The young man wanted to touch her face, but his fingers were covered in his own blood, too dirty.

He resisted the urge, his hand hovering in the air for a few seconds before slowly falling.

The woman choked on her apology. “I’m sorry, it’s all my fault.”

Huang Mao had already guessed, after all, Xiao Mei was unharmed inside, yet the zombie had charged straight at him, indicating she had seen it but hadn’t warned him.

It was human nature.

A thin layer of snow settled on the young man’s body, his low body temperature slowing its melting.

Huang Mao handed his gun to Xiao Mei, but she refused, tears falling onto his face, leaving wet marks.

Since Xiao Mei had been with Sang Biao, she sometimes went hungry when she angered him.

The man before her always secretly brought her food in her most helpless moments, and they had developed feelings for each other in private.

But now, the only person who had been kind to her was about to become a zombie.

Time ticked by.

The young man firmly placed Xiao Mei’s hand on the trigger, aiming it at his own head.

He spoke with difficulty, “Pull the trigger.”

He no longer had the strength to support his arm, his aim unsteady.

The world in his eyes faded to black and white.

The fresh bite wound from the zombie rapidly turned a purplish-blue, and his craving for flesh made his gaze drift to the woman’s neck.
