“Get lost!”

Wen Zhiyu said coldly.

The man suddenly felt a sharp pain in his arm. This exceptionally beautiful young woman was nothing like the easy target he had imagined.

The man fled in a panic.

Doctor Song said apologetically, “Comrade Wen, I’m truly sorry. I’ll inform the hospital director and have this matter dealt with. We absolutely won’t allow him to continue bothering you!”

Wen Zhiyu was now the hospital’s prized asset. No one was allowed to bully her!

Wen Zhiyu asked briefly about the middle-aged man’s situation. She learned that he was a local resident who had indeed brought his wife to the hospital for treatment. However, the couple were both difficult people, so she didn’t inquire further.

Seeing that Wen Zhiyu had no intention of getting involved, Doctor Song breathed a sigh of relief.

She was worried that if Wen Zhiyu softened and got entangled with that family, it would become endless trouble.

Wen Zhiyu was kindhearted, but she wasn’t a pushover. There were so many people in the world—she couldn’t possibly save everyone.

She lowered her head and continued reading, unaware that the man who had been unconscious behind her was somehow struggling to open his eyes.

The man’s deep gaze settled on Wen Zhiyu.

At that moment, sunlight streamed through the window, casting a soft glow throughout the room. Against that backdrop, Wen Zhiyu seemed like a celestial fairy who had descended from heaven to the mortal world. One glance was enough to make it impossible to look away.

Suddenly, Wen Zhiyu put down her book.

Shen Lifeng seemed startled. He instinctively closed his eyes and felt Wen Zhiyu approach the bedside. Her cool fingers rested near his ear as she checked his injuries.

Not long afterward, Shen Lifeng fell asleep again.

When he woke up once more, it was already deep into the night. His mother was sleeping beside his bed. He raised his heavy hand and gently touched her.

Seeing him awake, Shen’s mother immediately sat up.

He opened his mouth to speak, but all he felt was a burning sensation in his throat.

His mother quickly stopped him.

“Ah Feng, don’t talk. Zhiyu said it’s normal to feel uncomfortable after being unconscious for so long. But if there’s anything especially wrong, you must tell us.”

Shen Lifeng nodded.

When his mother saw him respond, tears immediately welled up in her eyes. She tried to hold them back, but her throat kept tightening with emotion.

About an hour later, Shen Lifeng was finally able to speak.

“Mom, I’m sorry for making you worry.”

Although he had been unconscious on the hospital bed, he understood that while he had suffered physically, his mother had suffered as well.

Especially now, seeing how much weight she had lost.

“It’s fine, it’s fine. As long as you’re awake and well. We must properly thank Zhiyu.”

Shen’s mother murmured.

At the mention of Zhiyu, the image of her angelic face from earlier that day appeared in Shen Lifeng’s mind, stirring something within him.

“Mom, she is…?”

His mother was naturally in an excellent mood now that her son had awakened.

Feeling guilty, she told him about how she had once been superstitious and, through a matchmaker, had arranged for Wen Zhiyu to become his fiancée.

As she spoke, Shen’s mother sighed.

“That girl is truly wonderful. Even after everything, she still performed surgery and saved your life. We can’t repay kindness with ingratitude.”

“Once you’re fully recovered, I’ll help her get her mother’s belongings back. I’m going to recognize her as my goddaughter!”

Shen’s mother kept talking, completely unaware of the reluctance in Shen Lifeng’s eyes.

He liked Wen Zhiyu.

It had been love at first sight—perhaps even attraction based on appearance.

But he had met beautiful women before.

Only Wen Zhiyu was different.

The moment he saw her, Shen Lifeng knew.

She was not like anyone else.

His mother failed to notice anything unusual. She simply assumed her son was tired and remained silent.

The next morning, as soon as Wen Zhiyu entered the hospital room, she saw that Shen Lifeng was awake.

Smiling, she walked in.

“Comrade Shen, you’re awake.”

Her greeting was natural and straightforward, without the slightest awkwardness, as if she were speaking to any ordinary patient.

Shen Lifeng’s gaze remained fixed on her. He nodded and watched as she came over to take his temperature and examine him.

“You’re recovering quite well. From now on, you just need to take your medicine normally and focus on resting.”

“Thank you.”

Shen Lifeng’s voice was somewhat hoarse, but it was obvious he had a naturally pleasant voice—deep, resonant, and carrying an air of integrity.

The moment he spoke, Wen Zhiyu paused slightly.

His voice was surprisingly nice.

Before she could respond, Shen Lifeng continued.

“I already know about the marriage arrangement between us. I’m very sorry for the trouble I’ve caused you.”

He spoke sincerely.

Wen Zhiyu smiled faintly.

“It’s fine. It wasn’t a big deal to begin with. We can just treat it as cooperating in a performance. I didn’t really lose anything because of it…”

A shadow slowly appeared in Shen Lifeng’s eyes.

His gaze fixed on her moving lips, but his mind had long since wandered elsewhere. He didn’t hear a single word of what she said afterward.

After speaking for a while, Wen Zhiyu realized that Shen Lifeng seemed to be daydreaming.

She leaned forward slightly and looked at him.

When Shen Lifeng snapped back to reality, he found her face suddenly very close to his.

He was startled, nearly losing his usual serious composure.

By the time he looked again, Wen Zhiyu had already straightened up.

“Are you alright?” she asked.

Shen Lifeng shook his head.

Seeing that he didn’t seem interested in continuing the topic, Wen Zhiyu assumed he also disapproved of the marriage arrangement.

She didn’t press the issue and simply told him to rest.

Obediently, Shen Lifeng lay back down and closed his eyes.

Wen Zhiyu soon left the room.

Watching her retreating figure, Shen Lifeng finally breathed a sigh of relief.

The reason he had obediently lain down was because he was afraid she would continue discussing their engagement.

He could let her go.

But he also wanted to try.

And if Wen Zhiyu still didn’t like him, then he would simply try harder.

After leaving the room, Wen Zhiyu also breathed a sigh of relief.

Although she had remained calm the entire time, Shen Lifeng’s burning gaze had never left her. It seemed filled with curiosity and emotions she couldn’t quite understand.

How could she truly remain unaffected?

Still, she wasn’t someone who would be thrown off balance by a few looks.

“Comrade Wen!”

Just as Wen Zhiyu finished instructing the nurses on how to care for Shen Lifeng, she heard a familiar voice nearby.

Turning around, she saw Big Mouth.

Surprised, she asked, “Big Mouth, what are you doing here?”

He grinned foolishly.

“I have a comrade-in-arms staying here. I came to visit him.”

After finishing her instructions and sending the nurse off to care for Shen Lifeng, Wen Zhiyu chatted briefly with him.

When Big Mouth learned that she had performed surgery on Shen Lifeng and that he had recovered, he immediately gave her a thumbs-up.

“Comrade Wen, you’re amazing!”

Wen Zhiyu smiled.

Then Big Mouth hesitantly asked,

“Comrade Wen, now that Battalion Commander Shen has recovered, are you planning to stay with the military unit? If you ever need anything in the future, just tell me!”
