Big Mouth treated Wen Zhiyu like a goddess. Since his goddess already had someone she was engaged to, then he could at least treat her like an older sister!

“I probably won’t be staying in the military for very long.”

Since she had already discussed everything with both Shen’s mother and Shen Lifeng, Wen Zhiyu spoke frankly.Full novel: The Delicate Young Woman Insisted on Going to Accompany the Army and the Abstinent Tycoon Fell for Her — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“My relationship with Comrade Shen Lifeng is a bit complicated. I came to the military base specifically to break off the engagement.”

Big Mouth was shocked.

Big Mouth was overjoyed.

Big Mouth was disappointed.

If even someone as outstanding as Battalion Commander Shen was being rejected by Wen Zhiyu, then what hope did he have of pursuing her?

Ever since Wen Zhiyu left, Shen Lifeng had been staring at the doorway.

His heart was restless.

Where had Wen Zhiyu gone?

When would she come back?

The door was pushed open.

The heart that had been hanging in suspense instantly settled, and he looked toward the entrance with delight.

But the people who entered were Shen’s mother and the nurse whom Wen Zhiyu had instructed to care for him.

Over the next two days, Wen Zhiyu never appeared again.

Shen Lifeng recovered well and was already able to get out of bed and walk a few steps.

Shen’s mother had completely changed from her previously gloomy state and now wore a smile every day.

Only Shen Lifeng remained in low spirits.

On the third day, he finally couldn’t suppress his anxiety any longer.

“Mom, where’s Comrade Wen?”

“You mean Zhizhi?”

Shen’s mother smiled.

“Zhizhi has been holding consultations at the hospital lately. Any patient with a slightly serious illness has to be seen by her personally. I even visited her just a little while ago.”

Shen Lifeng pursed his lips.

It was his own fault for still being unable to leave his bed.

Shen’s mother was completely oblivious to his little thoughts.

So when Shen Lifeng said he wanted to go outside for a walk, she found an old, battered wheelchair. With the nurse’s help, she seated him in it and pushed him outside.

Wen Zhiyu really had been busy lately.

But it was the kind of busy she found fulfilling.

She actually enjoyed it.

As for Shen Lifeng, after entrusting his care to the hospital nurses, she never went to see him again.

It wasn’t because she lacked responsibility.

Rather, after Big Mouth suddenly confessed his feelings to her the other day, she went back and thought about it.

Combined with the way Shen Lifeng looked at her, she suddenly realized his gaze didn’t seem entirely innocent either.

She had come here to break off an engagement, not create more trouble for herself.

That was why she found an excuse to spend her time consulting patients at the hospital.

Before she knew it, three days had passed in the blink of an eye.

Besides Wen Zhiyu feeling fulfilled, the hospital director was practically grinning from ear to ear.

Someone entered her consultation room.

Without looking up, Wen Zhiyu said,

“What seems to be the problem?”

The visitor’s voice sounded familiar.

“Doctor Wen, I brought my wife here. Please take a look at her.”

Wen Zhiyu looked up.

It was the same man who had caused trouble in the hospital ward that day.

Then she looked at the woman standing beside him.

Her brows immediately furrowed.

“Doctor Wen, you can cure my wife, right?”

The man approached with a greasy smile, moving far closer than a normal patient’s family member should.

A bad feeling suddenly rose in Wen Zhiyu’s heart.

This man was here with ill intentions.

The next moment, his expression changed.

The sleazy smile disappeared and was replaced with murderous intent.

At the same time, the woman behind him pulled out a pistol.

Wen Zhiyu was shocked.

Damn it.

They were here to kill her!

But why?

The man grabbed her hand.

The woman immediately fired.

As the gunshot rang out, the consultation room door was violently kicked open.

Wen Zhiyu saw Shen Lifeng staggering into the room.

Everyone thought Wen Zhiyu was doomed.

But the bullet merely grazed past her and struck the mud wall behind her.

The instant she saw the woman raise the gun, Wen Zhiyu had already reached into her spatial storage and pulled out a dagger with her free hand.

She plunged it into the arm of the man who was holding her.

The force was tremendous.

The blade pierced straight through, leaving holes on both sides of his arm.

The man cried out in pain and released her.

Taking advantage of the moment, Wen Zhiyu forcibly shifted her body out of the bullet’s trajectory.

Just barely.

A fraction of a second later, and the bullet would have hit her.

Everyone was stunned by what had happened.

Even the woman holding the gun.

The woman closest to Shen Lifeng was suddenly grabbed by him.

He snatched the pistol from her hand.

“Damn you!”

The woman glared at him furiously.

Bang!

She pulled out a dagger, intending to kill him.

But Shen Lifeng shot her in the chest.

Clutching her wound, she collapsed to the ground.

Seeing that his accomplice had been caught, the round-bodied man surprisingly moved with agility.

He rushed toward the nearby window, hoping to escape.

Both Shen Lifeng and Wen Zhiyu looked at his bulky frame.

Neither of them made a move.

Then the man got stuck in the window frame.

He couldn’t move forward.

He couldn’t move backward.

“Ah Feng!”

Shen’s mother cried anxiously.

Wen Zhiyu turned around.

Shen Lifeng had collapsed onto the floor and was already unconscious.

She immediately rushed over.

Without even examining him, she knew he had fainted from exhaustion.

After checking his surgical wound, she let out a sigh of relief.

Fortunately, the stitches hadn’t torn open and the wound wasn’t bleeding.

This was a military hospital with soldiers stationed nearby.

Before long, personnel arrived and took both suspects away.

One was dragged out of the window.

The other was sent for emergency treatment.

They needed to stay alive.

Only then could investigators determine what was really going on.

Why had they come to kill Wen Zhiyu?

What was their motive?

When Shen Lifeng woke up again, he discovered that Wen Zhiyu was in his hospital room.

He immediately felt relieved.

Before he could say anything, there was a knock on the door.

Big Mouth entered carrying a small bag.

“Comrade Wen, I went into town yesterday and saw this scarf. I thought it would suit you, so I bought it for you.”

By the time he finished speaking, his entire face was bright red.

Wen Zhiyu accepted it.

But she also handed him two yuan.

“I… I bought it for you! I don’t want your money!”

Big Mouth stuffed both the scarf and the bag into her hands and immediately ran away.

Wen Zhiyu didn’t even have time to stop him.

She sighed.

This kid…

Holding the scarf, she turned around and met Shen Lifeng’s burning gaze.

“How are your injuries?” she asked.

Shen Lifeng shook his head to indicate he was fine.

“I thought Comrade Wen had handed me over to someone else and stopped caring whether I lived or died.”

His words were tinged with jealousy and dissatisfaction.

Wen Zhiyu heard it clearly.

And it made her even more certain that Shen Lifeng was very interested in her.

She said,

“Your injuries only require proper recovery. You don’t need me specifically to be here.”

Then she continued solemnly, ignoring the unpleasant look on his face.

“Comrade Shen, I do not want our relationship to develop any further.”

Her tone was extremely serious.

“Since you’re fine now, I’ll be leaving.”

Carrying the gift from Big Mouth, Wen Zhiyu left the room.

She was already thinking about how she absolutely had to return the money to that foolish young man.

But in Shen Lifeng’s eyes, it meant something entirely different.

Wen Zhiyu was willing to accept gifts from someone else.

Yet she was determined to cut off all of his hopes.

Could it be…

that Wen Zhiyu still treated him differently from everyone else?
