Qiao Xi didn’t even have time to mock Qiao Qilin’s shamelessness. She rushed forward immediately to check on her younger brother.
Fortunately, because his condition was weak and he had fallen asleep again, he hadn’t witnessed the confrontation between her and Qiao Qilin.
She let out a small breath of relief.
The gentle expression on her face faded instantly. Turning around, she said,
“Thanks. Sorry for making you come all the way here. Luckily you arrived in time—otherwise my phone might’ve been snatched away.”
Nan Gong He’s expression remained calm. He didn’t even bother with polite pleasantries.
“I was already here.”
Qiao Xi paused.
“You’ve been outside watching the whole time? You only came in when I was about to get hit?”
He didn’t confirm or deny it.
Qiao Xi rolled her eyes internally.
So he really was just standing there watching the show.
What a piece of work.
She let out a cold snort.
“I’ve learned something new today. So there really are people who wait for the perfect moment to play hero.”
“You’re beautiful?” Nan Gong He replied coldly, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
Qiao Xi was instantly speechless.
She huffed.
“If you’re done here, you can leave. My brother’s transfer paperwork still isn’t finished.”
Might as well not look at that face—wasted on him anyway.
“Your efficiency is too slow. I’ve already sent people to handle it. The documents will arrive soon.”
Before he finished speaking, his phone suddenly rang.
He glanced at the caller ID, and his already calm brows furrowed again.
This was the second time Qiao Xi had seen that expression.
She was about to ask, but Nan Gong He had already turned and left with his men.
She followed a few steps, curious to hear what was being said.
But she only caught fragments:
“The marriage between us has already been dissolved. Don’t call me again.”
He walked too fast. His bodyguards surrounded him tightly, and the rest of the conversation was lost.
Soon after, a nurse came to inform her to go to the front desk to collect the transfer documents. Once she had them, she could take her brother directly to the new hospital.
Qiao Xi had just received the papers, already imagining her brother recovering, when someone tapped her shoulder.
“Finished your call so quickly?”
She turned around with a teasing smile—but froze the moment she saw the person behind her.
A man with peach blossom eyes, elegant features, and a tall straight nose stood there.
Her ex-boyfriend—Lu Jinghao.
The moment she saw his face, the emotions she had been forcing down surged back like a tide, dragging up all the pain she had buried:
Forced marriage.
Being abandoned by her family.
Being betrayed by her boyfriend.
“Wow, what a rare guest. Isn’t this Miss Qiao Ying’er’s fiancé, Mr. Lu Jinghao?”
Qiao Xi’s tone was dripping with sarcasm.
Lu Jinghao’s expression softened with guilt and pity. He gently grabbed her arm.
“Xi’er, don’t talk like that. I know I betrayed you by being with Qiao Ying’er behind your back, but I had my reasons.”
Qiao Xi let out a cold laugh.
“Don’t give me that excuse. Is ‘having reasons’ a justification for betrayal?”
“We were together for so many years. I never did anything wrong to you—but you turned around and cheated on me without a word. You’re really something.”
“If you still consider yourself a man, stay away from me. Don’t disgust me.”
She didn’t even look at him anymore and turned to leave.
But Lu Jinghao grabbed her arm again, his voice full of so-called anguish.
“Don’t push me away. Listen to me. The Qiao family inheritance is now entirely in Qiao Ying’er’s hands. Only by marrying her can both families cooperate properly.”
“I can give up my marriage freedom for you and take back what should be yours. I’ve sacrificed so much. I only have one request—you can wait for me, right? Three years. Just three years!”
