Jiang Zhuo’s tendency to sleep in was only occasional. There would always be one night when he stayed up till dawn, and naturally there would also be days when he got up very early.
Today, Qiu Xianzhi came downstairs half an hour later than usual. The moment he entered the living room, he saw Jiang Zhuo sprawled over the sofa.
His feet were spinning a throw pillow, the way people used to spin water jars in acrobatic shows. It actually looked pretty skillful.
Jiang Zhuo paused Plants vs. Zombies on his phone, went up and hugged Qiu Xianzhi. “Morning, Qiu Xianzhi. Bad luck, go away already, good luck, hurry up and come.”
Today, Qiu Xianzhi had changed out of his loungewear and put on a suit. He was even wearing a tie, and his hair was neatly styled. Jiang Zhuo couldn’t help sneaking a few extra glances at him.
They were still eating breakfast when a man carrying a briefcase came in from outside and stepped forward to brief Qiu Xianzhi on today’s schedule.
Qiu Xianzhi nodded. Just as he was about to leave, he felt someone tugging on his sleeve.
Jiang Zhuo had hold of Qiu Xianzhi’s sleeve, casually continuing to eat his breakfast. When Qiu Xianzhi looked over, Jiang Zhuo bit into his fried dough stick and looked off somewhere else.
Pretending not to notice, Qiu Xianzhi gave a slight pull, but Jiang Zhuo still refused to let go. He kept eating from his bowl, his gaze wandering everywhere.
Looking at Jiang Zhuo acting all awkward and stubborn, Qiu Xianzhi let out a soft laugh, a tenderness in it that even he himself didn’t notice.
As a qualified secretary and assistant, Wu Yixiao always kept his professional standards in mind. He must not pry into or wildly speculate about his boss’s private life.
But seeing this eternal iceberg actually smile, and not only fail to avoid someone getting close but even respond to it, he simply couldn’t help making guesses.
Qiu Xianzhi: “Go change your clothes.”
Jiang Zhuo: “Got it, I’ll be right down.”
The moment he heard Qiu Xianzhi agree, Jiang Zhuo dashed upstairs excitedly to change.
All the way there, Jiang Zhuo happily followed behind Qiu Xianzhi. Jiang Zhuo pushed the wheelchair the entire way, and the three of them went straight up from the underground parking garage into the office.
Qiu Xianzhi: “No need to be nervous, just look around.”
Qiu Xianzhi hadn’t been to the company for over half a month. Wu Yixiao had been handling everything, only asking for instructions when he ran into matters he couldn’t decide on himself.
Even now that he had come, he just sat off to the side drinking tea and reading, looking every bit like a hands-off boss, practically spreading his hands and saying whoever wants to deal with it can deal with it.
Jiang Zhuo tilted his head toward Qiu Xianzhi. “Qiu Xianzhi, can I play with this?”
Jiang Zhuo had somehow dug out a Lego set from who knew where. Qiu Xianzhi nodded. It was a commemorative item from a mobile game, given to him by a partner company as a keepsake.
Watching Jiang Zhuo play with it so intently, Qiu Xianzhi joined in too, occasionally helping fit a couple of pieces together.
Jiang Zhuo looked at the man trying to steal his Lego from him and poked the back of his hand with a finger, telling him to hand over the phone piece.
Jiang Zhuo: “Uncle Qiu, you’re the boss. In front of your employees, you should set a good example.”
At that, the corner of Qiu Xianzhi’s mouth lifted. Calling him uncle, was this little rascal reminding him to mind his age and stop snatching toys from him?
There was a thirteen-year age gap between them, so being called uncle wasn’t entirely unreasonable.
For the sake of that “uncle,” Qiu Xianzhi really did stop bothering Jiang Zhuo while he built the Lego.
Wu Yixiao had eyes in every direction and ears tuned to everything. Half his attention was on work, the other half, plus both ears, was working hard to catch the conversation between the two of them.
Calling him uncle, so he must be some relative’s child. No wonder the boss was keeping him by his side.
The commotion outside caught Wu Yixiao’s attention, and then he felt his eyelid twitch. A bad feeling came over him. Sure enough, several people walked in through the door.
It was the boss’s whole big family.
