Pei Shiyu stood at the doorway of the second floor, framed by the backlight. He was holding a white towel, drying his hair. He wore a simple black T-shirt, and at the neckline, there was a damp circle where water had dripped from his hair.
Xu Qing squinted slightly. Hmm. This villainous boss actually has quite a bit of charisma.
Seeing the food containers in Xu Qing’s hands, Pei Shiyu pushed the door open, clearing the way for him.
Separated by a distance of about two people, Xu Qing could even smell the scent of shower gel on Pei Shiyu as he stepped aside.
Xu Qing’s gaze was so intense that Pei Shiyu’s hand holding the towel paused. “It will cost you if you keep staring.”
Xu Qing was taken aback.
Pei Shiyu paid him no mind and went back into his room, though the sound of the door closing was a bit loud.
Once he realized what Pei Shiyu had said, Xu Qing could not help but chuckle.
Hearing the sound of the door, Wan Li, who happened to be passing by, defended his leader: “Our captain just has a habit of slamming doors; his hands are a bit heavy. It is not directed at you.”
Xu Qing shook his head, thinking to himself: Perhaps it IS directed at me? After all, he has not exactly done anything noble.
After entering, Xu Qing saw the layout of the entire second floor. It was quite spacious, with about eight or nine computers, looking much like a makeshift office. As for the staff, looking around, there seemed to be only three people in total. There were a few half-open doors inside, where one could vaguely see what appeared to be bedrooms.
Everything was arranged in a rather cluttered manner, but the trash cans showed clear signs of having been emptied. There was none of the dirty, chaotic, musty smell typical of a male dormitory.
Xu Qing placed the meal containers on the table and was about to leave when Wan Yi, who was playing a game nearby, suddenly jumped up abruptly.
Wan Yi wailed: “WOC, my stomach!”
With one hand clutching his stomach and the other holding his phone, which still displayed the active game screen, Wan Yi wore an expression of agony, stumbling urgently toward the bathroom.
As he passed by Xu Qing, he hurriedly thrust the phone into Xu Qing’s hands: “Brother, help me play a round.”
Before he even finished speaking, he did not wait for Xu Qing to answer and rushed toward the bathroom.
Xu Qing, catching the phone in surprise: “?”
Before Xu Qing could stop him, he heard the sound of the bathroom door being shut tight.
Holding the slightly warm phone, Xu Qing raised his head and scanned the room. Wan Li was currently immersed in his own game in the corner, and Pei Shiyu had yet to come out of his room.
Realizing there was no one else to hand the phone to, Xu Qing helplessly raised the phone and saw “Ah Li” moving forward in “auto-pilot” mode due to his brief hesitation.
In Eternal, the marksman, the output role, nine and a half minutes into the game, with a kill-death ratio of 2-3, it looked like he had been targeted.
In the current situation, Wan Yi’s side had nine towers total, and two had already been pushed down, one of which was the critical middle lane. It was a disadvantageous game.
Presumably because “Wan Yi,” as the key damage dealer, had died more times than is typical for this rank, the support on his team could not help but type in the public chat: “Marksman, watch your positioning. Do not always stand in front, remember to hide behind me.”
The support here was clearly a “tank support” with a thick health bar, capable of absorbing damage.
The support role is also the one that coordinates most with the marksman during a match. Under normal circumstances, a qualified marksman hides behind the support to output damage stably, ensuring they do not die.
But the “marksman” in this match had clearly failed to ensure he “did not die.”
Seeing other teammates joining in with sarcastic remarks in the chat, Xu Qing ignored them and simply opened the global economy panel. The highest economic output in both teams belonged to the opposing “jungler,” who also accounted for the most kills. At this moment, they were taking down the “Dragon,” which grants buffs to the entire team.
The friendly support clearly noticed this and was standing not far from the opponents, so Xu Qing also had vision of the enemy team.
However, since there was more than just the opposing jungler attacking the “Dragon,” aside from the enemy “top laner” who was currently quietly pushing their second defensive line in the top lane, the other three teammates were all there.
Meanwhile, on their side, the “jungler” position, the most suitable for stealing the Dragon, was still respawning, along with the friendly “mid laner” and “top laner.” The situation at the Dragon pit was 4-on-2. Even though Xu Qing’s team had noticed them taking the Dragon, the enemies were still unconcerned, as they had an economic lead and held key positions, ready to counter-attack at any moment while taking the Dragon.
Are they really this confident?
Xu Qing’s lips curled up slightly, and he adjusted the settings back to the touch sensitivity he was accustomed to when he used to play.
Although Xu Qing had not touched this game in the last month, the experience from the past few years had not been for nothing. He had worked at the IT headquarters of Eternal, testing every hero, except for the support ones, together with the technicians time and time again.
Xu Qing manipulated “Ah Li” and, pressing the “first skill,” charged right into the crowd. Seeing his movements, the support “Old Niu,” holding his axe, cried out from behind: “You are crazy!”
Although “Old Niu” was cursing, he still followed “Xu Qing” and charged forward. After all, they were at a disadvantage from the start, and the later the game went, the more they had to rely on the “marksman” role for output. Every time the marksman died, it was a massive blow to their team.
Seeing Xu Qing arrive, the one who was forced to stop first was the jungler attacking the Dragon, disrupting the rhythm of their Dragon-slaying. However, upon seeing Xu Qing approach, the people on the other side did not panic much.
The enemy jungler ordered in their channel: “You guys keep him occupied, I will continue taking the Dragon.” After all, a “marksman” who had died three times in ten minutes was not someone to be feared in their eyes.
A few seconds passed, and the “Dad Kai” who had been diligently taking the Dragon realized something was wrong. His health was dropping way too fast.
Taking advantage of a gap, Dad Kai clicked on the data “panel” and discovered that all the damage was coming from the opposing marksman. With a gloomy expression, he questioned his “teammates”: “What are you guys doing? Stop him for me!”
The teammates reprimanded by the jungler, while continuing to play, opened their mics with voices filled with complaints.
“He is too agile.”
As is well known, “Ah Li” is a hero with many dashes. Among all the character pools, he is known for being “agile,” and he is also a hero that requires high skill. The range that “Ah Li” can cover is also very wide, which meant that even though they had the numerical advantage, they could not lock onto “Ah Li”’s range, and instead wasted several ultimates for nothing.
The heroes at the Dragon pit besides the jungler were: Mid-lane mage, Ms. Wang; Support, Big Fish; and Marksman, Yu Ji.
Ms. Wang’s “second skill” lock-on was entirely avoided by “Ah Li’s” footwork. Although Big Fish had a wide range, he was, after all, a support, and even against a marksman with a fragile health bar, the damage still was not fatal. And all of “Yu Ji’s” “skills” were blocked by “Old Niu.”
Every time “Yu Ji’s” skill came over, “Ah Li” was able to appear precisely behind “Old Niu,” ensuring not a single bit of max damage hit him.
When “Yu Ji’s” skill hit “Old Niu” once more, Xu Qing even managed to spare a moment to type in the public chat.
Ah Li: Hiding behind you.
Seeing this reply after such a long time, “Old Niu” fell silent.
A support is supposed to take damage for the marksman, but having said that, how did he seem to have become his “human shield” now? It was a feeling where, even though he had not died, he still felt very annoyed.
Xu Qing maneuvered the hero, dodging the skills of the few opponents, while all of his “Ah Li” skills landed precisely on the enemy Dad Kai, which caused Dad Kai’s health bar to drop sharply.
Dad Kai had no choice but to activate his third skill, triggering the ultimate he had not wanted to use at that moment. Dad Kai’s ultimate provides armor to protect the whole body and can reduce the opponent’s damage effects to a certain extent, often used when their side wants to initiate an attack, harvest kills, or charge into the fray.
Now, however, it was being used by him purely for defense. And it was only defending his own health.
What kind of person is this marksman?
