21 – A Great Satisfaction
“No,” the little nurse answered his question instinctively.
In the darkness, Qin Dingzhang stared intently at the two operating rooms displaying “Surgery in Progress” and spoke into his headset, “Dongzhi, come over and clear out the bystanders!”
“Yes, sir!”
“Weifeng, run through the list of all medical staff involved in tonight’s surgeries one more time!”
“Yes, sir!”
The more the little nurse listened, the stranger it seemed. She raised her flashlight and asked in confusion, “Which department are you from, Doctor? I don’t think I’ve seen you before.”
Qin Dingzhang didn’t answer her. In the darkness, the beam of the flashlight swept past, and the little nurse caught a glimpse of a pair of strikingly handsome, spirited eyes.
A very handsome man!
But she had definitely never seen him before!
“Who are you?!” the little nurse pressed, growing even more puzzled.
Just then, the door to one of the operating rooms with a red light on was pushed open, and a nurse rushed out, shouting, “Who are Wang Fen’s family members? The mother is hemorrhaging badly! Come sign the consent form quickly!”
“What?! What happened to my wife and child?!” In the darkness, a burly man charged forward.
“The mother’s condition is critical now. Do you want to save the mother or the child? Hurry up and sign!”
“Save the child!” an elderly woman said urgently. “Save my grandson!”
The burly man was about to say something but was met with a fierce glare from the old woman. In the end, he fell silent, listening as his mother kept shouting, “Save the child! It doesn’t matter if the mother doesn’t make it!”
The little nurse’s expression instantly turned grim. She scanned the darkness, asking, “Has none of Wang Fen’s family members come?!”
“We’re right here!” the old woman pulled at her. “I’m her mother-in-law, and this is her husband. What other family do you need?!”
“Her parents or relatives from her side?!”
“What do you mean by that, you little brat?!” the old woman snatched the pen from her hand and shoved it into her son’s grip. “Am I not her mother-in-law? Can’t I decide her fate? Save the child! Son, sign it quickly, or your son won’t make it!”
The burly man held the pen, his hand trembling. From inside the thick operating room doors, he could faintly hear his wife’s agonized cries.
The tip of the pen shook in his grasp, but under his mother’s urging, he finally made a stroke of ink on the paper.
“Wait!”
At that moment, a hand gripped his pen. In the darkness, a man in a white coat appeared before him, snatched the pen, and swiftly signed the form. “Save the mother!”
“Who are you?!” the old woman immediately protested.
“I’m her brother!” Qin Dingzhang signed the form quickly and pushed it back to the little nurse. “I’ll take responsibility if anything goes wrong. Hurry, save the mother!”
“Okay!” The little nurse hurried back into the operating room.
Nowadays, hospitals had regulations: in emergencies during childbirth, saving the mother took priority.
It was a humane rule.
But rules were rules—someone still had to sign the liability form!
The hospital didn’t dare take responsibility lightly!
They would communicate with the family, and under normal circumstances, the family would agree after discussion. The little nurse had never encountered someone as extreme as Wang Fen’s mother-in-law!
“How dare you make decisions for my grandson?!” the old woman fumed, watching the little nurse return to the operating room. “If my grandson dies, you’ll be responsible! How will you take responsibility? What can you possibly do?!”
“And you’re Wang Fen’s brother?! I never knew she had a brother! Looks more like a lover to me!”
“Mom, say less!” The burly man pulled his mother back, looking utterly pathetic.
“Son, how can I say less? You’ve been cheated on! Tell me clearly, what exactly is your relationship with Wang Fen?”
“Auntie, this is a doctor from our hospital,” the young nurse from earlier stepped forward to maintain order. “If you keep causing trouble, we’ll have to ask you to leave!”
“Ask me to leave! So he’s a doctor at your hospital, huh? What’s his employee number? I’m going to report you all! And messing with my daughter-in-law! When my grandson is born, we’ll do a DNA test to see if he’s my son’s! And the hospital will pay for it!”
“What’s going on?!” Just then, Xu Dongzhi hurried over.
“Dongzhi, clear the area!”
“Got it!”
“Now, everyone quiet down and leave this area! Wait in the lounge next door!”
Xu Dongzhi’s booming voice echoed through the silent hospital corridor, instantly overpowering all other sounds.
The troublemaking old woman frowned at the sound, then shrieked, “Leave?! On what grounds?!”
“Bang!”
Xu Dongzhi kicked her straight into the lounge next door, then locked the door with a click. “Is this reason enough?”
That kick brought an inexplicable sense of satisfaction to everyone watching!
Even the young nurse couldn’t help but look at this somewhat unfamiliar security guard with starry eyes.
“You dare hit my mom! I’ll fight you!”
“Damn! Now I’ve really seen something. You don’t protect the woman who gave birth to your child, but you protect the woman who tried to murder your wife!”
Xu Dongzhi cursed under his breath, watching as the man charged toward him. He raised his leg and kicked him straight into the wall.
Just then, the red lights above the two operating rooms simultaneously turned green, and the doors to both rooms opened at the same time.
From the right operating room, a plump nurse emerged holding a baby. “Congratulations, mother and son are both safe!”
The remaining group of family members waiting outside rushed over. “Really? A son? Thank you so much!”
The plump nurse smiled at them. “No problem. I need to take the baby to the nursery for cleaning now.”
“Thank you, thank you,” the group surrounded her, following her as she walked away.
From the left operating room, the young nurse who had earlier requested signatures emerged, also looking joyful. “Both the mother and child are safe!”
“What?!” The burly man, who had been kicked into the wall by Xu Dongzhi, scrambled over, somewhat surprised. “So, is it a boy or a girl?”
“It’s a girl! Mother and daughter are both safe!”
Hearing it was a girl, the burly man’s expression immediately darkened again.
The nurse holding the baby glanced at the man, who was slow to react, then walked over to Qin Dingzhang, happily saying, “It’s a girl! Thank you for saving them!”
Qin Dingzhang nodded slightly to the nurse, briefly glancing at the baby before turning his attention back to the people streaming out of the two operating rooms—doctors, nurses, and the new mothers.
In his ears, Li Weifeng’s analysis results echoed simultaneously.
“No suspects!”
His frown deepened.
Just then, the hospital lights flickered slightly, and the wall clock struck exactly midnight.
The hospital’s power was finally restored!
Qin Dingzhang’s eyes narrowed instinctively. In front of him, the plump nurse holding the baby, surrounded by the crowd, passed by.
The sound of her footsteps reached his ears, and he almost instantly judged her weight—very heavy.
Her actual weight appeared far heavier than her figure suggested.
