22 – This madman poisons himself!
“Dingzhang, the list of medical staff participating in tonight’s surgery has been confirmed. There are three doctors and five female nurses. Among the three doctors, only one is male—a fifty-something-year-old overweight doctor—and he has already been ruled out.” Li Weifeng’s analysis came through the earpiece once more.
“Overweight doctor.” Qin Dingzhang murmured to himself. Suddenly, his eyes lit up. “Weifeng, was the female nurse who just passed by me a man or a woman?”
Under thermal detection, gender could not be concealed.
However, after the power was restored, Li Weifeng’s computer display switched back to normal surveillance mode.
Li Weifeng paused for a moment, quickly rewound the footage, and pulled up an image of the person who had just been scanned. In the thermal imaging, the figure appeared plump, and while the body shape was questionable, it was unmistakably a man!
“It’s a man! Bruce disguised as a woman?!”
They had found him!
Qin Dingzhang immediately gave chase!
The nursery was now empty.
In the fourth-floor changing room, a plump female nurse first removed her nurse’s cap, revealing his medium-length hair underneath. Then, he took off the pink nurse’s uniform, exposing sandbags strapped to his body, covered with a layer of pigskin. Once he removed the heavy weights, his figure became noticeably slimmer, but his male physical characteristics were now visible.
He walked to the sink, turned on the faucet, and meticulously washed his hands. The rushing water quickly soaked his fair, slender fingers—hands so beautiful they seemed almost unreal.
He took his time, following the most standard handwashing procedure: palms, between fingers, fingertips, wrists—no area was overlooked. Just from the order, it was clear he was a meticulous and demanding medical professional.
After washing his hands, he dried them under the automatic hand dryer before finally tying up his medium-length hair in front of the mirror.
He ran his fingers through his hair, securing it with an elastic band into a small bun.
He looked refined yet roguish.
The man in the mirror had slightly upturned peach blossom eyes, with reddened corners that naturally carried a hint of captivating charm.
It was difficult to describe a man with the word “beauty,” but this man undoubtedly deserved that term.
Beautiful, so beautiful that it was hard to distinguish his gender.
Yet, this beautiful face was filled with a world-weary, hostile aura.
“Bruce?”
A voice with a heavy nasal tone came from the doorway. The man in front of the mirror didn’t turn around. Instead, he looked at the reflection, where a person in loose overalls, wearing a mask and a baseball cap, leaned against the doorframe.
Leaning against the door with head lowered, an air of lawlessness emanated from them.
For a moment, it was difficult to tell whether the newcomer was male or female.
“Are you the person my junior brother sent?” Bruce showed no surprise, smiling faintly at the reflection in the mirror. As he smiled, the world-weary expression on his face softened slightly.
“Exactly. Are you coming or not?” Ye Yuntong straightened up and stretched, glancing toward one end of the quiet corridor where footsteps could be heard approaching.
“Can’t leave now,” Bruce said indifferently.
“Just those three ISAF guys? They can’t stop me,” Ye Yuntong replied with a roguish grin.
But Bruce pointed to the reflection of the window in the mirror and said calmly, “There’s a fourth one.”
He pointed toward the pitch-black building opposite, where a sniper lay motionless on the rooftop like a statue.
All snipers were like shadows—silent and unseen.
At the same moment, a fourth voice sounded in Qin Dingzhang’s earpiece, “Fourth-floor changing room, target locked.”
There had always been one person in their squad who had yet to show themselves.
That was their sniper, positioned at the highest point to provide support—the final piece that completed their squad’s formation.
Never once had they missed.
Ye Yuntong adjusted her sunglasses, her clear eyes following the direction Bruce was pointing.
She truly hadn’t noticed.
Those Sixth International people really lived up to their reputation. From the moment she entered the hospital, she had sensed a faint feeling of being watched. She knew there were all-around surveillance cameras outside, but she hadn’t expected another pair of eyes to be fixed on this hospital building. From the moment she stepped inside, she had been under their surveillance.
However, she wasn’t their prey.
So, the sharp, focused light hadn’t locked onto her, which also meant she hadn’t been overly aware of it.
“I’ll charge out with you!” Ye Yuntong’s delicate brows furrowed, but she wasn’t too worried.
“No need.” Bruce smiled mysteriously. “I still need to stay in the hospital for a few more days. Come pick me up at the hospital at 10:30 p.m. two days from now and take me away.”
“What do you mean?”
Ye Yuntong was taken aback, but immediately afterward, she saw Bruce turn around, exposing his entire front to the sniper’s line of sight—an extremely dangerous move.
At the same time, footsteps echoed in Ye Yuntong’s ears, and the sniper in the opposite building simultaneously received the order to fire. But before they could pull the trigger, Bruce took a vial of transparent liquid from his pocket, broke the glass neck, and drank the entire contents.
“Remember to come get me.” After drinking it, Bruce gave Ye Yuntong one last smile, then clutched his stomach and slowly collapsed to the ground. Once down, he began foaming at the mouth.
“Damn it! Madman!”
Ye Yuntong cursed under her breath. Just from the faint chlorine-like smell in the air, she knew Bruce had ingested something highly toxic!
He definitely had another plan. To stay in the hospital a few more days, this madman was willing to poison himself!
Ye Yuntong understood his intentions almost instantly. With the Sixth International involved, he definitely couldn’t escape. But to stay in the hospital, this madman had decided to “die” first, forcing them to resuscitate him.
This man was absolutely insane!
Ye Yuntong caught sight of Qin Dingzhang’s figure at the end of the corridor and immediately headed in the opposite direction without looking back.
“Bruce!”
By the time Qin Dingzhang reached the changing room, Bruce was completely unconscious.
“Si Cong, what just happened?” Qin Dingzhang asked while examining Bruce and inquiring about the sniper’s information from the opposite building.
A cold, reporting voice came through the earpiece, “Bruce injected the liquid into himself. Before doing so, he seemed to be speaking to someone.”
“Weifeng! Check the surveillance footage. See who was near the changing room!” Qin Dingzhang said as he picked up Bruce and rushed toward the emergency department on the first floor.
They needed to pump his stomach immediately.
There were no surveillance cameras inside the changing room, and the infrared detectors previously placed had been temporarily deactivated due to the power being restored, but the hallway cameras were still operational.
Shortly after, Li Weifeng reported simultaneously, “There was only one person in work clothes. All other information is currently unknown.”
Work clothes?
A piece of information flashed through Qin Dingzhang’s mind.
“Lock onto that person, send me their location!”
After rushing to the emergency room and handing the person over to Xu Dongzhi, Qin Dingzhang immediately opened his phone to check the location that had been sent.
Hospital first-floor lobby.
Ye Yuntong had just reached the main entrance when she was stopped.
