Lamar
Tony finally made it to our house for dinner right before our guest arrived. I was so glad to see my best friend, my childhood friend. I invite him to my room so that we can relax before the dinner guest arrive. While we wait we talk about our day in school and our plans for our futures especially since we both know that I will be 18 in a few months.
My mother calls us downstairs and that smell that I smelled earlier in school hits my nose like a ton of bricks. I stand still and savor that smell for as long as I can until Tony ask me if I am coming. I step around the corner and I hear something in my head yell mate to me. What in the world was that voice. It sounded nothing like my inner voice that I use when I am thinking. That once sounded almost like an animals voice. I stand still to see if I hear it again.
I notice our guests staring at me. I must look strange to them just standing still so I sit down in an empty chair at the dinner table. I can’t think clearly and my mind starts racing. What is happening? There is a muscular man at the table the most beautiful girl I have set my eyes on at the table beside him. She is staring at me wide eyed and I hear the word mate come from her mouth. On second thought, I must still be in shock. I couldn’t have heard what I think I heard.
My mother begins to explain that she met this man in town. I think she called this man Erik. My brain is still a little hazy from that intoxicating, tantalizing aroma that I smell. I am still staring at the girl who looks to be around the same age as I am. I am loving the way her hair is up in and updo, showing off her beautiful long neck. She is so gorgeous I can’t wait to make her mine. She is mine. Wait what! I have never thought of a girl in this way before. What makes her so different from all of the other girls that I ignore every day? Why am I being so possessive of this particular girl? I glance over at Tony and my mother to see if something has changed in them or if it just me. Can they smell that scent or is it just me? The smell of cherry blossoms. I am guessing that they must not smell cherry blossoms because they are having conversations around me and everyone is having conversations around except for the girl who is silently staring at me. Neither myself or the girl are eating. I did happen to see this Erik guy briefly size me up when I thought I heard the girl stay mate. I hear Erik call the girl’s name to encourage her to eat.
Kamari…. What a beautiful name. I say it a few times in my mind because I want to commit every detail about her to memory. I must ask her to be my girlfriend or however this thing works because I don’t want to be away from her.
